I remember seeing/reading interviews with the England Women's players and a lot of them play for club sides. Watching the occasional bits of games, the pace bowling is quite a lot slower (than most teams, Sri Lanka would feel right at home) and spinners don't seem to get much turn. Also, the batting seems familiar to me and I watched England ODIs back in the early-mid 90s.

The MCC only allowed women as members in 1999. There are probably still old boys in there who think that letting women play would mean ruining the pitch with high heels.

I think we may see quite a few batswomen making it through, timing, temperament and decision making are all far more important than raw strength. Can't see very many female fast bowlers making it though.

I feel much the same, if you look at Bell or Tendulkar they are not the biggests of guys but this doesn't stop them being very good batsmen, but being able to wang it down at 90 mph is going to be out of reach of pretty much any woman within the current pool of players (it also out of reach of the majorty of man playing the game). Maybe if cricket was in the same place as football in popularity an unusually tall or strong woman might come through the ranks. Spin, on the other hand, is another place where size doesn't matter and I could see a woman spin bowler happening along and doing doing well, it just a case of experience (see Swann, G).

Hand size and grip would be something which the average man would have an advantage over the average woman, plus spin bowling takes a lot more out of the body than it might look (elbow, shoulder and back injuries are a regular occurence). It's an endurance discipline as much as anything. There's more chance of a competitive spinner than fast bowler, but it's not particularly likely either imo.

She is. edit: apparently she's been dating Starc for a few years. double edit: apparently Fields is our wicketkeeper and captain, Healy is a keeper too though. Coucho Marx fucked around with this message at 23:12 on Jan 5, 2013 |

Wade being rested for the ODI's (or one game, I don't know). Haddin back in!quote:John Inverarity confirms that selectors have Wade and Haddin firmly as their to two keepers looking towards the India and the Ashes Please don't get injured Wade.

We had a fringe Australian women's player in our (relatively high level) team literally last week. She made 20 against a team with an ex first-class player opening the bowling. I think there's less of a gap with batting than bowling though. The state level bowler who trains with us sends down 105kph seamers

Wade reminds me of Prior when he first played tests, complete with abysmal keeping and poo poo awareness. And a lippy oval office it seems.

This is one of the worst keeping performances by an Australian I can remember.

We could always play him as a specialist batsman at six! Get more of his silly 135kph balls too.

Put Johnson/Hughes combo as keepers, it will probably be better than Wade.

Wade is beyond terrible. Just play him as a batsman and possibly a part time bowler.

Herath was well out of his crease at the bowlers end and he threw the ball over Johnson's head to mess up an easy run out.
