I haven't done many covers in the past, but have found after doing a couple, they're a good way of learning how other people write and structure their music. This is a cover of one of my favortie David Bowie songs, 'Ashes to Ashes'. No vocals, so sing along if you know the lyrics https://soundcloud.com/tace/ashes2ashes-v1 Edit: Also got a cover of DEVO's 'Beautiful World' that I'm pretty happy with. https://soundcloud.com/tace/bworld-v01 1000 Sweaty Rikers fucked around with this message at 10:53 on Dec 4, 2012 |

An early merry christmas to all recorded this yesterday, it's a fingerstyle cover of mainly emil ernebro's arrangement of the christmas song, but I've changed some passages out for others here and there. Comments/criticism welcome. hurrrr² fucked around with this message at 12:19 on Dec 20, 2012 |

Trying something a little different to what I'd usually do, I'd really appreciate any feedback regarding the vocals. I know I gently caress up the ukulele a bit, but did this more as a vocals test. https://soundcloud.com/swissdonkey/on-the-rocks-grieves-cover

Behold! A Elk! posted:https://soundcloud.com/the-collapsing-stars/palmcorder-yajna-mountain Oh hell yes, that's amazing. I have a super soft spot for Mountain Goats covers and I think my life peaked when I heard Craig Finn (of The Hold Steady) doing the vocals for This Year. Although, I guess that wasn't really a cover since the TMG were playing the instruments. Whatever, still peaked.

Behold! A Elk! posted:Thank you very much! Are you the person who followed me because if so I love your pink and blue cover. Oh thanks! Yeah, I learned guitar by playing TMG songs (and not much further) so while I turn almost every other cover into TMG chords/strumming I leave their songs as they are. edit: Also, everything about Think of The Children reminds me of TMG, from the style to the title to your band name, which I just happen to like very much. The band is named after the song. And while I am getting a little better at being original a lot of my songs are heavily TMG influenced. With Think of The Children I was a bit (ok more than a bit) inspired by the style of Going to Alaska.

^^ Looooove that Morrowind cover! A few friends and I were in a cover band a while back. We tried to pick songs that weren't typically covered much and put unique spins and instruments on them. We recently decided to make a few youtube videos of some of our songs. Empire Ants by Gorillaz Crystalised by The XX Videotape by Radiohead.

Drunk Tomato posted:^^ Looooove that Morrowind cover! That Gorillaz cover is great! We were just working on a cover of that song too (not nearly as close to the original as yours though, well done). What settings are you using on the Micron? I don't even know if we'll continue with our cover, but I love that sound/always want to know how people are using that lil red synth.

Here's me singing a song, which is Lollipop by Mika. I really enjoy it when highly edited songs/songs with lots of electronic beats/drums get covered acoustically, so I wanted to try my hand at this one. Hope everyone doesn't hate it as much as I didn't hate making it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F0ywCcdKtoY

This past summer a couple friends and I started a brutal death metal and our second song was covering one of the simplest and most polarizing bands: 'Slaughterhouse' by Mortician. We recorded it in maybe a two hour time span from creating the drum track to learning the vocal patterns and riffs. This song was ridiculously easy to do, but it was also a ton of fun and we have gotten some really good feedback on it. I'm not sure how many of you goons are into this poo poo, but hey, it's a cover so it fits. Skip ahead to the 41 second mark if you want to bypass the horror movie sample. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G1Jq7k_jPJE A TURGID FATSO fucked around with this message at 18:59 on Feb 12, 2013 |

itsgotmetoo posted:https://soundcloud.com/beau-bradley-2/evanandchan Yeah I think the quality is good enough to get all the notes and emotion across, assuming you just want to evaluate yourself and give your friends something to check out. I think you do a good job of performing emotionally, but I think if you tone the emotion down a bit you could really tighten things up significantly. I've decided to experiment with covers on Youtube a bit, so here's my first go-round: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=80AhD9Y1wrk. I need to not try to be Chris Cornell in the higher parts.

http://www.vaughn-s.net/drwho.mp3 A slide guitar version of the theme from Dr. Who. The drums are pretty cheesy, but they were meant to be a placeholder until I got a real drummer to play on it (which never happened). Such is life!

Here's a cover I did of "The Dress Looks Nice On You" by Sufjan Stevens that I later performed for my friend's wedding ceremony. I use a Boss RC-2 Loop Pedal to put it all together live. I especially liked the strum/pick thing you were doing in between verses. I have no clue how you do that but it sounded fantastic.

JT's new album is just so coverable, so I went ahead and made one (not suit and tie). I don't have an area where I can sing freely because the neighbors can hear, so I might be holding it back at times. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qwxz59ZSDDg

My group normally plays fancy-pantsy art music that we commission from composers, but we're also going to be doing a ton of Youtube covers, so please feel free to offer some other suggestions. Other upcoming ideas include Twin Peaks, Gerudo Valley theme from Ocarina of Time, and some others. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PVLXBWnTWeI
