It's been through (4?) beta releases already- it should be out some time in January unless they're holding out for some reason.

I don't follow the logic here. Why would 6.1 being released affect a JB working for 6.0.2? Or are you talking about updating to 6.1?

Well they are waiting for 6.1 so Apple can't fix the jailbreak. If they wait, their security hole should still be open in 6.1 allowing them an easier time jailbreaking it.

You can, but not for a long period of time. Once they release 6.1 the time of apple still signing for 6.0.2 will be almost nothing. It would be safer to update before it's released.

Because they plan on releasing it for 6.0.2 first and it's within the realm of possibility that the same exploit won't work.

Whether iOS 6 gets jail broken or not, I can guarantee with utter certainty that they will not release an untethered jailbreak that is incompatible with the most recent iOS software version at the time of release.

In other words, now that 6.02 is out, nobody will ever release a jailbreak only for 6.0 or 6.01. And when 6.1 comes out, it will be the same story.

It's usually a couple days isn't it? Once the jailbreak is released I've got quite a few people to call and I need to get them all in the same place so I can upgrade them all to 6.0.2. A jailbreak party, as pathetic as that sounds. I've had people calling me basically every month asking me when I will be able to jailbreak their poo poo and I would hate to miss it.

Also, if you read planetbeing's reddit post, you would have realized they're not waiting for 6.1. They still need at least one, maybe two, more exploits for the jailbreak to be released to the public. They said they always keep at least one exploit so they can actually get into the kernel.

If 6.1 was released tomorrow, they still wouldn't have a jailbreak out. THIS is why they don't post anything. One person says something and it is completely blown up and blown out of context and a bunch of lovely 15 year-olds make lovely blog posts about things they don't understand and then everyone gets pissed off when a month from now, there's still no jailbreak released.

Because they would never burn any of the multiple exploits needed to form a single jailbreak on a software version that most of the user base has already upgraded past.

They have never done this, and given the difficulty of finding vulnerabilities in iOS these days, I am completely certain they never will.

You're taking my response out of context. You should read the reddit post and his twitter feed. Not just the lovely article. He said so on Twitter.

Reddit post:

quote:

The reasons it's not released are because 1. releasing it would burn an exploit we want to save for ourselves so we can always get in to look at new firmware and help JB in the future, 2. iOS 6.1 is coming very soon and will likely break a small part of it anyway, there's no point in sacrificing the many bugs it won't break.

Anyway, where there are 4+ bugs (that it took to get this to work), there's gotta be one or two more so while jailbreaking is getting harder, reports of its death are highly exaggerated.

They still need a bug that takes the place of their initial exploit (the "seed corn"). He's not saying "there's gotta be one or two more" in terms of "there simply has to be!". He's saying, there has to be in order to release a jailbreak.

I just went through this today (from 5.0.1, though). I didn't do anything special, but I received an error when updating that resulted in me having to restore my phone. This wasn't really a problem, because after installing iOS 6.0.1, I just sync'd with my iClould backup, though I imagine I would have lost some application data.

I didn't end up finding out, because I'm currently attempting to restore my phone back to 5.1.1, since I found out Springtomize doesn't support iOS 6, and I'm very picky. Not to mention I'm worried my home button is going to fully blow-up at some point, so a tethered jailbreak is scary to me. If I get back to 5.1.1 I'll probably stay there for the life of the phone.

Unfortunately I'm getting error 1602 when trying to restore to 5.1.1. Nothing I've found online has helped to resolve this.

EDIT: Yes! After contemplating moving to a rural community and abandoning technology all-together, I decided to use my eSATA port on my laptop, and that did the trick. I also used redsn0w instead of iTunes for the restore process, but that might have been irrelevant to the successful outcome.

I don't care what you say about this post, but if anyone steps on my bunion, I'll kill them!
Apologies if this is excessively newbie-ish, but since this stuff changes often it's hard to find out what's the case right now:

I've got a jailbroken iPad 3 GSM running iOS 5.1.1. I want to restore it right back to 5.1.1 jailbroken. Reason being that I installed SiriPort, realized it was going to connect me to some 3rd party proxy, and uninstalled it. My device still boots fine and otherwise works, with one exception: the native Apple voice recognition doesn't work anymore. I'm talking about the mic icon on the keyboard that appears for various apps. Used to be that I could press it, the mic icon would appear, I'd speak, press it again, and it'd decode what was said. Now when I press it, it appears/vanishes instantly. Guess the Cydia uninstaller didn't quite wipe all of it. It now shows iOS 5.1.1 and iOS 6 detected for SHSH blobs.

So, I figure screw it: I can just reinstall what I got. Problem is, I'm not sure if it's as simple as just booting the device into DFU and clicking Restore with that 5.1.1 IPSW. Just in case, I pulled the 5.1.1 SHSH file from the iPad cache using TinyUmbrella (the Fetch option in redsn0w 0.9.15b3 would grey itself out upon detecting the iPad 3), but I notice that I can't seem to stitch the firmware to the blob. The apps all says that IPSW version isn't supported.

Can I actually do this? Can I still just flash back to 5.1.1 and re-jailbreak using absinthe 2.0.4? The text in the original post of this thread saying "you can do that" is struck out, so there must be a reason. If I can't do it, I'll just live without using voice recognition. Though come to think of it, if I'm going to do that I may as well reinstall SiriPort but not install the certificate, since at least then I can still use the added clock/compass/voice memo recording stuff not present in 5.1.1.

Tried this in a different thread but maybe it's more related to Jailbreak than anything else.

Has anyone tried the x-sim (x-sim.biz)? (This is one of the resellers linked from gsmhosting forum). I'm stuck with my 4s being on 6.01 (and beyond, unless there's some magic way to get back to 5.1.1), having lost my SHSH blob backups. However, sprint sucks giant rear end and t-mobile has 1900 mhz HSPA+ in my area, so I'd like to test it out before cancelling my sprint contract.

If anyone's tried it, I'd love to ask a couple questions. Otherwise, I might be a guinea pig on it anyway.

Edit: clarity

Just to be sure: the latest version of redsn0w is still 0.9.15b3, correct? As I look through the options I see there's Extras->Even More->Restore, which looks like what I need. I selected my 5.1.1 firmware, pointed to my local blob copy, and then the program fetched some files and put the iPad into DFU mode. It then uploaded the iBEC (failed the first time for some reason, but worked on retry), but then I got this error as it uploads the ramdisk:

"Couldn't Restore: It seems the APTicket flashed on the device cannot be re-used for this hack. If the current firmware was installed via an OTA update or at the factory, its APTicket contains the wrong data for this to work."

So unless there's some newer version of redsn0w for which this isn't a factor or I'm using the wrong option, crap. I bought it already jailbroken at 5.1.1 and I have no idea whether the previous owner bought it with 5.1.1 installed from the factory or updated to it via over-the-air. I know it's an untethered jailbreak with Rocky Racoon, and that right now everything seems to work except for the voice recognition thanks to the apparently-not-fully-uninstalled SiriPort. I can re-do the jailbreak in redsn0w, though that doesn't have any effect on anything. Absinthe 2.0.4 just says the device is already jailbroken and doesn't proceed.

As I understand it, correct me if I'm wrong someone, if your device powers down at all, you need to connect your device to a computer with the jailbreaking tool on it in order to power it up. You can recharge it on whatever, just don't let it power down.
