Domalom posted:If it's anything like the stage show they did last year it will be appallingly poo poo. The stage show was... odd. It seemed to be going for a "global warming is nonsense" angle, then backpedalled to "global warming may be nonsense, but politicians are so crap at science they haven't a clue either way and are just playing to the crowd". There was a needless "Man, those Arabs are funny about women, hey?" subplot as well. Impressively cynical about how the government can make somebody disappear on fake terrorism charges, though.

For those that give up on 24, the last seven or so episodes are glorious. Though I dislike most programming on the BBC after looking through what's most popular I'm guessing they're right to commission more crap. It would be interesting to know what impact youview and other services that ease watching of iplayer have on the popularity of shows as I'm guessing it's mostly going to be used to rewatch cartoons or trash telly when you come home pissed.

Oh my god, Attenboroughs' Africa is just too marvellous. I need an adorable baby gorilla. And a lizard that dances in front of lions. And a shoebill (it's a bird that looks like a Muppet, can't balance because of it's disproportionately large beak and kills it's baby brother in the nest)

Has no one else noticed that Adam Buxton managed to sneak one of his jingles into Thinkbox's The Power of Advertising advert? He even gets in a sly "Ala poo poo la la" at the end.

Not sure if this has been posted, but apparently BBC HD is becoming BBC2 HD soon and HD versions of BBC3 and BBC4 programmes will only be viewable via iPlayer. Until they decide on the best course of future action, that is. Which means finding capacity for the future to make HD versions of those two channels. This is a little disappointing as I love watching BBC4 documentaries in HD. The quality will be quite a bit shitter

Haha this owns, he witters on about the importance of having dialogue about difficult topics, and then behaves as if having rape in his film about slavery would be ridiculous and refuses to answer questions about violence because "this is a commercial for MY MOVIE!". Did he misunderstand what programme he was on or is he basically admitting that American news interviews are commercials?

I saw a thing about this on the BBC news, an interview with the guys making it. Apparently BBC had first refusal on the series, but they wanted to commision a pilot first. The creators refused stating that the pilot already exists as a box set DVD (the original series). Yeah because 25 years ago with a different cast and crew they made something special, if you call the new thing the same it will be great by default.

Really? I like Jez as a character, but I think he's a terrible actor. For me it shows just how good and well written the character is that I can stomach him, tbh. Mitchell is much, much better as Mark, though I'm not sure how good of an actor he is or if that's just him or his "character" he constantly plays in public.

I can't fault Tarantino for his comments at all. He's completely right, the press junket is just a commercial for his film and not the time or place to go into the 'movies/real life violence' debate. Tarantino does the press because it gets the film out there and the press do it because it generates sight traffic/views. Tarantino has, even recently, done a lengthy piece with a reporter about some of the plot points in 'Django' and why the reviewer thought some things didn't make sense. He's also talked at length at lectures about violence and how it's portrayed on screen. It's not even a bad question, it's just a poorly asked one used to generate a quick soundbite they can play. Plus, it's a question that Tarantino gets asked every time he has something out, even with the comparatively non-violent 'Jackie Brown'.

It was a lot of fun to watch Knightmare again when CITV showed them last weekend. I was going to say that I didn't know why they picked the two that they did (they're from after I stopped watching it, early to mid 90s ones) but apparently it's because the fansites think the guy in them was the best of all the contestants ever. It certainly made me wish they'd bring it back, but it's two episodes of a run that's pretty obviously three episodes and a lot of the time the guys are using items and talking about stuff we've not seen them do, so it was kind of confusing. I guess you couldn't really replicate it nowadays because more people have actual real computer games to play and it's a lot like a badly plotted Dungeons and Dragons game, but it might still be fun!

But it's a lot of fun, and I really could do without Super Doc Former Pinkerton American Man but I can look past it because it's visually stunning.
