In honor of the day, the PBS Nixon documetary on Netflix is pretty good, and everybody should read Nixonland by Rick Perlstein.

Can't mention Nixon without mentioning his TV guru and runner of Fox News Roger Ailes"Rolling Stone Magazine posted:Ailes found his calling in television. He proved to be a TV wunderkind, charting a meteoric rise from gofer to executive producer by the age of 25. Ailes had an uncanny feel for stagecraft and how to make conversational performances pop on live television. But it was behind the scenes at Mike Douglas in 1967 that Ailes met the man who would set him on his path as the greatest political operative of his generation: Richard Milhous Nixon. The former vice president – whose stilted and sweaty debate performance against John F. Kennedy had helped doom his presidential bid in 1960 – was on a media tour to rehabilitate his image. Waiting with Nixon in his office before the show, Ailes needled his powerful guest. "The camera doesn’t like you," he said. Nixon wasn’t pleased. "It’s a shame a man has to use gimmicks like television to get elected," he grumbled. "Television is not a gimmick," Ailes said. “And if you think it is, you’ll lose again."

ing my own horn Let's not forget that Nixon was closely advised by future 3rd positionist/nativist/fascist Pat Buchanan.

That ad has made every lazy SF author make alternate universe Nixon a used car salesman or low-level criminal like the famous libertarian toilet paper dispenser "The Probability Breach". Come on, a criminal of his level deserves more!

Rest assured, America, despite how heinous a person Richard Nixon was, he was the last liberal president and is un-electable by both parties today.

Man, that cat was something else. My grandmother, a Jewish Connecticut Yankee, still spits whenever Nixon's name is mentioned. Also, this picture was posted in the thread a while ago, but i cant find it. It's a drawing a transgendered person looking at male and female bathroom doors and one has a sign that says "get yelled at," the other says "get beat up." GIS is no help either. Someone care to post it if you got it? It sums up the dilemma trans people face everyday perfectly.

Skinny Bins posted:She basically implies that he's liable for war crimes and he hangs up. Mr. Kissinger opposed - very vocally - the trial of Mr. Pinochet in Britain, and the presumed follow-up trial by Spanish prosecutors, on the grounds that introducing "universal jurisdiction" into international relations would result in a dictatorship of judges and a paralysis of sovereign political decision making. I like to imagine his mouth was covered in froth and his shirt soaked in cold sweat of panic as he was writing this Quite frankly, I would be fine with a dictatorship of judges as long as none of them were Kissinger's pals.

What's bizzare is that some of Nixon's policies would be considered downright socialist by today's ridiculous standards. Eugenio Rolando Martinez aka Musculito One of the Watergate plumbers. You can still find him every once in a while at Versailles, telling stories and flexing his muscles. He once told me he had a secret word that he would say to get him out of the prison whenever he got caught. Also the strongest old man I've ever met, triceps like a horse.
