Is he doing all new stuff? In other words, a new set from what was on Shakespeare? I know he's got a special premiering on Jan 13th. So I hope it's mostly new.

He also has some 30 minute show coming on CC in February.

The Angel from my Nightmare

Just got back from seeing Louis C.K. in Seattle at the Paramount. I saw him 2 years ago in Seattle and it was a great show and tonight was no different. The crowd was pretty drat horrible at times, unfortunately. He went off on some drunk idiot who was yelling something near the end of the show and it was one of the funnier parts of the night for sure. A lot of people yelling things out though which just made me embarrassed since I don't remember it being that bad the first time I saw him.

I wish I could remember the opener's name but he wasn't really anything special. It wasn't Todd Glass or whoever someone was saying earlier in the thread.

I'm decided to visit NYC for New Years eve to see some comedy, does anyone have suggestions for special events outside of just hitting up the big clubs? I don't know anyone there so I'll be on my own & using CouchSurfing.

I like UCB, Louie, Dave Atell, and all the Earwolf & Nerdist regulars if that narrows it down. Thanks fellow comedy nerds.

Once you record an hour, you generally don't just do that material again regularly. I don't mean the whole Louis CK model of doing a new hour every year and throwing it away 12 months down the road. But when you release Caligula, for example, it's a promotion for people to see you live with new stuff. Not hearing tracks 1-16 from Caligula in person.

This really isn't a good plan. New Years Eve in NYC is a bit of a shitshow in general and isn't really the day to come and do anything but drink and pay out ridiculous amounts of money to get into anywhere and have it be extraordinarily crowded. I checked both UCB theaters and they're closed for NYE, looking at Caroline's and they have some big NYE event that costs $100 for some mediocre comics and a party, Comedy Cellar has a NYE event that costs $80+ two drink minimum for people that any other day would cost $10 to see, and I'm sure the situation elsewhere isn't much better.

There might be a good indie comedy show somewhere, but I wouldn't count on it, or I wouldn't count on it not being sold out already. It would be better to go literally any other time than NYE to see comedy.

Thanks for the overview, feedmyleg. I'd seen that the UCB theaters were closed but I'd hoped it was because the comics were performing at special events. Guess I'll check out NYC comedy in Spring.

This is probably what it boils down to. Last year I saw Bill Burr, Dave Attell, Big Jay Oakerson, Joe Derosa, and Hannibal Buress all during New Years Eve last year.

This year I've got Anthony Jeselnik, Amy Schumer, Doug Benson, Arj Barker, Ari Shaffir, and Brendon Walsh.

Basically it's rather nice living near San Francisco around the end of the year.

Last night I got to see Dave Attell perform in Cleveland. In the past 6 months I've seen Doug Benson, Pete Holmes, Louis CK, Aziz Ansari, Doug Stanhope, and Dave Attell... and I've got to say, I really think Attell was the best (I'm sorry that makes me sound like kind of a douche, and I'm sure there's a lot of you who have seen more big named comedians recently, I just wanted to make a point I've seen some other well known comics as of recent). It could just be because I really enjoy his style of comedy, but he definitely gave me more laughs/minute than all the other comedians. I also can say that I enjoyed every show, I just thought Attell's set was a step above the rest.

Dave had someone open for him named Bill Squire, a comedian local to Cleveland. He was really great, and I suggest you all check him out.

I'd also like to say that I went into the show expecting to hear a few midget jokes, and I was not disappointed.

Attell has always been one of the best, if not the best, working today. Watch Captain Miserable (his latest special, 2008) to see that as starkly as possible. He's been on the Nerdist podcast a few times and that opinion of his greatness isn't singularly my own. It's just he hasn't been focused entirely on stand-up as of late, 'cause of Dave's Old Porn and all.

I saw her in Toronto during JFL42 and she was good but not great. Most of the big laughs came off jokes I'd already heard on Mostly Sex Stuff, and she left like 20 minutes at the end of her set for requests/questions that never came because no one there really knew her. You should still go see her, though, because I'm sure she'll have more new stuff by April plus she's generally pretty great.

You guys ready to hear a satanic song?
Doug Stanhope and Andy Andrist won a suit to put out a video of them confronting Andrist's childhood molester.

http://www.tcpalm.com/news/2013/jan/07/judges-ruling-allows-comedians-to-release-video/

quote:

Judge's ruling allows comedians to release video accusing Port St. Lucie man of molestation

FORT PIERCE — A judge's ruling Friday paves the way for two comedians to show their videotaped confrontation with a Port St. Lucie man one of the comics claims sexually molested him nearly 40 years ago.

Circuit Judge Dan Vaughn dissolved a temporary injunction he had previously granted to Stephen P. Spleen of Port St. Lucie to keep Andrew J. "Andy" Andrist of Eugene, Ore., and Doug S. Stanhope of Bisbee, Ariz., both standup comedians, from playing a tape of the pair's Nov. 4 interview with Spleen at a Port St. Lucie hotel.

According to a motion filed by Fort Pierce attorney Jonathan Jay Kirschner, Spleen admitted on the tape that he had abused Andrist.

A compliant filed by Spleen's attorney, J. Garry Rooney of Vero Beach, claims Andrist and Stanhope tried to obtain "money, possessions and/or notoriety to enhance their stand-up comedy careers by falsely accusing (Spleen) of committing disgraceful, deplorable and heinous acts."

Kirschner countered that Andrist wanted closure and to publicize Spleen's activities for the sake of any other past and potential victims.

Andrist claims he was molested by Spleen several times from June 1976 and 1981 when Andrist was between 11 and 13 years old. He said Spleen massaged him several times, and each time Spleen touched Andrist's penis.

Andrist also claims Spleen served him alcohol and showed him pornographic movies.

Kirschner's motion states Andrist at first suppressed memories of the encounters with Spleen; but when he became a comedian, he "incorporated elements of the child sexual abuse into his standup performances."

During a Jan. 9, 2009, performance for "Down and Dirty" on HBO, Andrist greets the audience and then abruptly says, "I got molested when I was 12" before making jokes about the encounters.

Kirschner wrote that Andrist learned two years ago that Spleen was living in Port St. Lucie.

According to a partial transcript of the Nov. 4 videotape cited in Kirshner's motion, Spleen replied "Uh-huh" when Andrist told him, "You were a sexual predator to me" and "You used that to ruin a portion of my life."

When Andrist asked "Are you sorry? Can you tell me that?" Spleen, according to the transcript, said, "Yes."

Rooney said Friday the transcript comes from an edited tape of the confrontation between Andrist and Spleen.

"We need to see an unedited version," he said, "one that hasn't been changed, modified and made to look different than it did in its original form."

Rooney said Spleen "denies the allegations 100 percent" and will pursue his claims of defamation and invasion of privacy against Andrist and Stanhope, adding that releasing the video would cause irreparable harm to his client.

"In this day and age," Rooney said, "(videos) can spread like wildfire. This case is about the fact that people shouldn't be able to say things about other people that aren't true and get away with it."

Andrist could not be reached Friday evening.

Stanhope said when and how the video is released "is up to Andy. This is all Andy's deal. ... It'll get out there, though. I guarantee that."

I read that on his Facebook. Good for him.

Anyway, came to the thread to post a few things:

Comedy Central has a huge chunk of Jeselnik's Caligula On Demand right now, as well as 17 or so minutes of various clips from the Kroll Show. The Kroll Show looks surprisingly hilarious, and not one of the sketches featured his annoying on-stage personas. There's a skit about a high school for disabled kids in Canada that really impressed me. (I'm disabled myself, so that should speak to the quality of the sketch... I don't take kindly to cheap shots.)

edit: Dammit, I'm wrong, it's just Jeselnik's CC presents. That's okay, I'll still watch it and laugh at the same jokes I know by heart. He and Doug Stanhope are my two favorites-- I can listen to them tell the same joke over and over and I will laugh more and more each time.

hey I was at this show too! Some parts of his new stuff is very typical of something he would write, I thought, like it was new observations in this very Louie tone, like something like that Of Course/But Maybe bit.
