Just got back from seeing Louis C.K. in Seattle at the Paramount. I saw him 2 years ago in Seattle and it was a great show and tonight was no different. The crowd was pretty drat horrible at times, unfortunately. He went off on some drunk idiot who was yelling something near the end of the show and it was one of the funnier parts of the night for sure. A lot of people yelling things out though which just made me embarrassed since I don't remember it being that bad the first time I saw him. I wish I could remember the opener's name but he wasn't really anything special. It wasn't Todd Glass or whoever someone was saying earlier in the thread.

I'm decided to visit NYC for New Years eve to see some comedy, does anyone have suggestions for special events outside of just hitting up the big clubs? I don't know anyone there so I'll be on my own & using CouchSurfing. I like UCB, Louie, Dave Atell, and all the Earwolf & Nerdist regulars if that narrows it down. Thanks fellow comedy nerds.

I checked both UCB theaters and they're closed for NYE, looking at Caroline's and they have some big NYE event that costs $100 for some mediocre comics and a party, Comedy Cellar has a NYE event that costs $80+ two drink minimum for people that any other day would cost $10 to see, and I'm sure the situation elsewhere isn't much better. There might be a good indie comedy show somewhere, but I wouldn't count on it, or I wouldn't count on it not being sold out already. Last year I saw Bill Burr, Dave Attell, Big Jay Oakerson, Joe Derosa, and Hannibal Buress all during New Years Eve last year. This year I've got Anthony Jeselnik, Amy Schumer, Doug Benson, Arj Barker, Ari Shaffir, and Brendon Walsh. Last night I got to see Dave Attell perform in Cleveland. In the past 6 months I've seen Doug Benson, Pete Holmes, Louis CK, Aziz Ansari, Doug Stanhope, and Dave Attell... and I've got to say, I really think Attell was the best (I'm sorry that makes me sound like kind of a douche, and I'm sure there's a lot of you who have seen more big named comedians recently, I just wanted to make a point I've seen some other well known comics as of recent). It could just be because I really enjoy his style of comedy, but he definitely gave me more laughs/minute than all the other comedians. I also can say that I enjoyed every show, I just thought Attell's set was a step above the rest. Dave had someone open for him named Bill Squire, a comedian local to Cleveland. He was really great, and I suggest you all check him out. I'd also like to say that I went into the show expecting to hear a few midget jokes, and I was not disappointed.

Attell has always been one of the best, if not the best, working today. Watch Captain Miserable (his latest special, 2008) to see that as starkly as possible. He's been on the Nerdist podcast a few times and that opinion of his greatness isn't singularly my own. It's just he hasn't been focused entirely on stand-up as of late, 'cause of Dave's Old Porn and all.

Most of the big laughs came off jokes I'd already heard on Mostly Sex Stuff, and she left like 20 minutes at the end of her set for requests/questions that never came because no one there really knew her. You should still go see her, though, because I'm sure she'll have more new stuff by April plus she's generally pretty great.

Anyway, came to the thread to post a few things: Comedy Central has a huge chunk of Jeselnik's Caligula On Demand right now, as well as 17 or so minutes of various clips from the Kroll Show. The Kroll Show looks surprisingly hilarious, and not one of the sketches featured his annoying on-stage personas. There's a skit about a high school for disabled kids in Canada that really impressed me. (I'm disabled myself, so that should speak to the quality of the sketch... I don't take kindly to cheap shots.) edit: Dammit, I'm wrong, it's just Jeselnik's CC presents. That's okay, I'll still watch it and laugh at the same jokes I know by heart. Some parts of his new stuff is very typical of something he would write, I thought, like it was new observations in this very Louie tone, like something like that Of Course/But Maybe bit. Really funny though, I especially like the sort of "I'm doing a joke, that thing I just said was a lie" things.
