Sanguinia posted:Why would you not just release individual volumes in order? It has the same effect overall. Compilations are just ensuring that there are sales out there you will never make because some kids favorite episodes will never be selected because they're less "popular." Because, believe it or not, some episodes really are more popular than others, whether among the general public or the show's staff. I'd be willing to bet that Christmas episodes sell better than non-Christmas episodes, for example. If the main audience is children you'd have to remember two things, 1) they are unlikely to remember the titles to individual episodes off the top of their head or to look them up online before going to Target and 2) its going to be their parents (who likely don't themselves watch any given show) who are making the actual purchase.

If anyone here is a fan of Invader Zim, then you might remember that the show was canceled mid-production, leaving about 13 episodes, unfinished, left in various stages, with scripts and voicework for a lot of them just sitting around. Two girls who've named themselves SoapyWaffles have taken it upon themselves to animate the episodes using Flash. A work-in-progress version of the episode "Mopiness of Doom" was premiered at InvaderCon, and that version has been posted online: http://youtu.be/c0ExXAnuBBY It utilizes the original voice actors from the show, and features music composed by a guy named Tom Resnick, who was given some guidance by the original composer for the show, Kevin Manthei. While the idea of animating unfinished episodes of Invader Zim using Flash may not sound like the best idea on paper, these girls have actually been doing a very impressive job. They've really captured the feel of the show's animation, even down to the use of odd camera angles. Pretty amazing.

The Flash is a little choppy, but I definitely appreciate the effort (especially since they have done their best to capture the feel of the original show, and got the same VAs)! I'd be delighted if more prematurely-cancelled shows were resurrected in a similar fashion.

Yeah. It isn't perfect, but it's quite impressive and it does do a lot of things right. I'm just ecstatic to see an unfinished episode of Invader Zim in an actual visual format. Ever since it was canceled I've been reading those scripts thinking of what could have been.

Just a quick word: the aquabats show is going to start on CITV in the uk on the 6th. So watch it before they replace it with even more Fleabag Monkeyface. Yes that is a real cartoon and it is the worst cartoon to have ever been shown on tv over here. ConanThe3rd fucked around with this message at 08:31 on Dec 29, 2012 |

Hell you could pause at almost any part of that video and it looks like an official screenshot. Everything from the characters, to the camera angles to the backgrounds all look pretty much perfect.

It's just their little way of saying to both the creators and the audience "look, the gloves are off, these cartoons can do anything they want." It doesn't really mean anything. Hell, Tron: Uprising is by far the darkest cartoon on television and it's still only TV-Y7 FV.

Yeah, I love how flexible stuff is for kids shows now. 20 years ago Mortal Kombat was a moral panic and a national media circus, now Disney makes a movie where in the first 10 minutes they have Kano ripping a dude's heart out and it's rated PG. Same for Regular show having a ton of swears and barely-veiled references to sex (lady pecks, unicorn slump, etc.)

Well, and even though my standards for Flash are normally pretty low, some shows (such as MLP, among a few others) have proven that Flash doesn't have to look bad. You just have to invest the time and energy, is all. Huh I just found this thread. I've been having a few thoughts about the "90's are all that block" Good -Hey Arnold has aged very well. Has a very Simpsons-like vibe to it now that I'm watching it again. Also dan castellaneta is amazing -Rugrats had a certain point when they were quite good, but then the quality dropped off. I find myself intrigued more about the conversations between the adults in the episodes. I kind of wonder if the good writers kind of bailed when Recess started to air on ABC back in the day. -Doug is alright. Billy West's voice acting is quite good. One line now stands out to me which is really funny now "When this video airs you'll be king...KING OF THE GOONS" Bad -I'll get flamed to hell and back for this, but I'm not a big fan of Kenan and Kel. Not that I don't find the pair very good, quite the opposite. It's just that the episodes themselves are quite formulaic. Blame the writers, not the actors I guess. Ugly -I'm still disappointed that there's not more of a variety at times. At times it's been the following: Kenan and Kel, All-That, and then either Doug, Hey Arnold or Rugrats. I mean you got Pete and Pete which was a pretty drat good show, and you also got Rocko and Angry Beavers which I happened to enjoy from back in the day. Switch it up a bit.

I think Pete and Pete is really the only one of those kid-coms/dramas that have aged well. The show seems like it would fit right in at IFC right now. Forgot to mention that "Action League Now" was also pretty good. Seemed a bit ahead of it's time, and moreso a show that would have taken off on youtube.
