Did I tell you I like Terry Moore? Yeah. It's good. I just love his artwork to bits, the characters and anatomy, the backgrounds, the occasionally nutty detail work, really everything. e: look at those last two panels, a lot of artists would have recycled the same drawing and just tweaked the head but nope, he redrew the whole thing! I follow some tumblrs that post female comic book characters. The one that updates the most often posts some of the more unfortunate art. Mike Deodato Jr. Jim Lee Tiny waists, skull-crushing thighs. I kind of like this, though. Baz Pringle. Oh and this too. Quite lovely. Bill Sienkiewicz. socalled fucked around with this message at 03:02 on Jan 5, 2013 |

But these pictures are phenomenal! I particularly love the one in the middle. I think I have a new favorite artist. Thanks, Alhazred!

I fear that a lot of Bendis' lower-profile projects (Scarlet, Brilliant, Powers) are going to end up like Stray Bullets and never be finished. Edit: Fixed it, 100 Bullets was indeed finished Brocktoon fucked around with this message at 19:31 on Jan 14, 2013 |

That he will make time to do them so he has a reason to work with his buddies.

I'm super surprised that no one has mentioned Jerome Opena, most recently the artist on Uncanny X-Force 1-20 (or so). I literally gawk at every panel this guy does. Anatomy, movement, action, orientation...I've never seen him make a mistake, and would read any comic he's drawing. This guy made the 2010 run of the loving Punisher interesting. * Posting from a tablet or I'd post pics, hope someone can help me out.

Alhazred posted:I will never understand why this man is so well regarded. I think it mainly has to do with the state of the comic industry when he got started. His art looked drat good compared to a lot of the comics being put out at that time. I think he upped the bar quite a bit in the early 90's, his style was pretty well proportioned, had strong, muscular men and women with boobs and a good sense of composition, negative areas, etc. His artwork was very consistent too which was a pretty big thing, I recall that a lot of the comic books I read had art that was all over the place. Unfortunately I don't feel like he has really grown as an artist in the decades since then. He raised the bar and plenty of artists have since surpassed it. The only thing I have seen from him that I can recall impressing me was visually Deathblow #1 way back when Image was first starting. Inking has changed, coloring has really, really changed, styles and tastes have changed and I don't feel like Jim Lee has adapted with them, when I look at Batman or Superman I feel like he's still drawing the same things he drew in the 90's except his lines are maybe a little cleaner and use less hatching for shading.

Paul Pope has a thing coming out today and that's always cause for celebration, even if it's just a colored (by the colorist from All Star Superman) version of something he did for dark horse presents and some previously unpublished earlier work. Pope is probably in my top 10 of all time artists. Everything he does is just impossibly cool.

Paul Pope is utterly amazing. He had a couple pieces at last year's CBDLF auction at SDCC and even if they were well welllllll wellllllllllll outside my spending range, it was utterly amazing to see it up close. I will always be in awe of anything that man does.

Having now read the full issue, I have to say that this works better taken as a whole. Yeah, the faces are a little wonky, but it only gets bad when it's an action scene when *everything* starts to take on exaggerated, dynamic forms. Out of context, I didn't like these panels. As part of a full book, I really enjoyed it.

Crowetron posted:I can't decide which is worse: the pose or the name "Jennifer Blood" If there was a 'bad comicbook storyline' thread, it would make the grade as well. It started off as a mediocre Garth Ennis series, then he left on the 6th issue essentially wrapping the story up, and Al Ewing took over and it's gone further and further off the rails and into completely irredeemable territory ever since.
