I think it looks good, but the back is way too busy. Either way, I love it just because of the massive amounts of sperg and nerdrage it inspires in German car site posters. ~Hurr durr terrible American engineering only 450 hp from such a big V8 oxcart suspension and plastic body and no class unlike MY PORSCHE~ It's amazing.

Oh.....but then I saw the interior. It's a Pontiac Grand Prix with a big MDF/nav system where the radio normally goes and a bunch of gaudy color highlights. The angles are all different, the center console is wider, it finally doesn't share a steering wheel with the loving Cavalier/Cobalt, and everything's wrapped in cow...aside from the wraparound of the driver, what's the same that's not standard across every car?

It's fine if you don't see it/don't think so....but it was the very first thing I though of when i saw the interior shots. I really, really want to love this car. It's performance for the price is ridiculously great. It's just got some "features" I'm having a hard time coming to terms with. My shifter is in the same spot, with an eerily similar armrest at the back. If I had power windows, the switches would be in the same place as whatever's between the switches and the armrest. How hard is to come up with something new and classy for the interior when you've done so much on the exterior? Not in the budget I suppose. Penny wise pound foolish.

I don't know about you, but if I can get that level of performance and exterior looks for $55,000 and have a rather crappy interior, or a car with inferior performance but a FABULOUS interior for $55,000, I will go with the first car every. It's about keeping the brand exclusive. Sure, they could drop the price a good bit, but then everyone would be driving one, and it wouldn't be as highly sought after. When you say Porsche to someone, 95% instantly think "expensive". The other 5% think "douche".

It relates to the interior comments, but I've never understood why companies building higher-end cars settle for parts bin switchgear etc. Give me a sportscar that costs £60k and has Ford Fiesta stalks and heater knobs, and the question for me is why I can't have them in machined aluminium and have it cost £61k. Even in smaller quantities, CNCing up bits like that isn't that expensive. You can buy quite nice fittings like that off the shelf anyway, there's no need for something that shouts to you about where they cut the costs right in front of your face every time you drive the car.

When you click 'compare car' on an auto website, it brings up (manufacturer reported) hp/tq numbers, transmission speeds, etc. It does not say whether the paddle shifters are magnesium or plastic. A good car review article will discuss interior quality, the glossed over press releases that pass for car journalism don't. So in terms of what sells cars, at least to the point of getting you to the dealership and physically sitting in the car, interior quality has very little bang for the buck. And you get people who think stuff like: Tusen Takk posted:I don't know about you, but if I can get that level of performance and exterior looks for $55,000 and have a rather crappy interior, or a car with inferior performance but a FABULOUS interior for $55,000, I will go with the first car every. I agree, especially when the bits that aren't a cheap-to-produce bit of turned metal or whatever, like the microswitches that the stalks attach to, and the little motors and that drive the flaps in the HVAC system, the pcb that the posh feeling knobs or buttons or what have you actually act on can be exactly the same as in a Polo and basically every other model in your lineup. On the other hand, when you do get a company that pays more attention to the facade than what's behind it, you end up with a TVR... Very cool and unique and sexy and also broken down on the side of the road.

Who gives a gently caress if the turn signal stalk is the same one as some pleb car? I sure don't, as long as it's good quality. Hell, I'd take the turn signal stalk on a 95 grand cherokee over the one on a 2013 Ford F250, I drove one of those the other day and holy poo poo, the turn signal stalk is the most uselessly tactile, floppy, annoying thing ever. At least the jeep stalk from 18 years ago had a solid feel to it and stayed where I put it, instead of being one of those stupid momentary push-on-push-off stalks that kept making me wonder if I pushed it hard enough to actually turn the signals on. I guess I just don't understand why PARTS BIN INTERIOR is such a big deal, as long as the major parts of the interior (dash cover, steering wheel, console, instrument panel, etc) are well designed and "fit" the car. Keeping the switches, radio bezel, etc common with other cars means if they break, you'll be able to get a replacement for under $500. Here's some terrible car stuff: Doesn't look too bad, right? ... I don't like where this is going... oh god

And it's not about the parts coming from "pleb cars"; it's that the parts look and feel cheap. Not all "pleb cars" are like this. In fact, it's increasingly likely that foreign competitors in many of the economy classes are distinguishing their offerings by providing better interiors. If you don't care about things like that it's absolutely fine. They make cars for people like you. In fact, we're discussing one of them now. Trying to paint my bringing this up as some sort of superiority complex isn't necessary, accurate or appreciated. kastein posted:I guess I just don't understand why PARTS BIN INTERIOR is such a big deal Because some of us like a driving experience that is more than just power and handling. This concept is not unique in the auto industry and can be seen in all manner of vehicles from econoboxes (where interior trim/electronics package can be close to the only distinguishing factor in many segments), mid level luxury sedans all the way up to supercars. It's hardly a foreign concept. When I was younger I could care less. Now I expect the things I interact with to be pleasing to me. I could give a gently caress what the outside looks like when I'm in the seat, but I do expect the interior to be gratifying to look at and the controls to be an engaging tactile experience. Have you ever sat in something like a C Class AMG Merc? For someone who cares about that kind of thing it's mesmerizing to imagine what it would be like to drive something like that every day. You seem awfully offended that people value different things that you do in vehicles.
