KozmoNaut posted:Flat tire? Let's drive it 5 miles to a shop because we don't have a spare. I have the same spare as you do. I also have the same Chinese foot pump with manometer. gently caress, I almost have the exact same car. Yesterday I had to plug the left front tire. Don't know what exactly punctured it. Whatever made the hole wasn't there. Anyway, my glorified Chinese foot pump with manometer gave up at 20 PSI. I would have liked about 36 PSI. Later investigation showed me, that the reason it gave up was a massive crimp failure at the hose. I checked my spare, and it was at 17 PSI. Lessons learned: 1) Never trust the Chinese. 2) Always buy two of the tools you'll need. 3) Always check the condition of your spare wheel. 4) You can fix your cheap Chinese tool with some other Chinese tools (I'll tell you how). Anyway, impatient as I am, I got to 4) after this misery. I drove to the nearest city (Mlv for you, nobody else will have a clue). 2 service stations, and NONE had air pumps. Yes, I drove 5 miles to the nearest larger city on a nearly flat tire.

I hope you double-checked that with a quality pressure gauge, because whoo-boy the gauges on those pumps are lovely. lovely as in showing 40psi when you've only got 20psi in there. Mine's even more lovely since I stepped on it and broke the drat thing.

This popped up for me recently on youtube and I haven't seen it mentiones but I thought it was still worth sharing. Some vintage footage of Tommi Makinen doing the touge as part of an old best motoring episode with everyone's favourite asian man, Keiichi Tsuchiya. Edutainment at it's finest, we get some sweet incar footage and an overview into just what makes it tick. The highlight of the video for me was seeing his hud though, I don't think I've ever seen anything more basic that still told you everything you needed to know. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=erKaPDP6V3g

I love the bit where he sets off on his practice lap, clocks that they're following him, and blats off down the track. You can feel everyone including Tsuchiya going . While we're talking rally drivers, the Peugeot adverts with Kris Meeke are great. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_5ploC3ef_4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y5aU0wZDoA8

None of the motor journalists I know (cool ones) have any money, and most barely have cars, if they even do. I think Jay Lamm's car is still a early 2000s Volvo station wagon, Murilee Martin rolls around in a formerly automatic EG or EK Honda hatchback, and one doesn't own a car. edit: one has an S2000 now that I think about it.
