Murderology AND Murderonomy!
I'm thinking about switching vocations but as I read the classes on the wiki, the Strider seems pretty all 'round good so maybe I should stick with that on my main guy.

My pawn is currently a Fighter but how is it compared to Warrior? I sort of enjoy the sword and shield play which is nicely balanced.

I'm not really interested in the Ranger because I find myself using melee most of the time with only some bowplay, albeit highly helpful. Assassin seems intriguing but apparently it sacrifices alot of defense for it.

EDIT: And then I found out your pawn can't go hybrid. :(

You will barely, if at all, move the Ur-Dragon health bar when you fight it. It's an interesting concept but the execution leaves much to be desired. I rather they just take a Monster Hunter route and have Ur-Dragon like battles but as 4-player coop. Of course, I think the game would probably come to a crawl once all the Sorcerers cast High Comestion or High Maelstrom. Or two-player coop. Or maybe just focus all their efforts into evening out the story, lore and creating a more varied world with more interesting things. I'd totally read books on that world's history and nations and pantheons if they took the time to read them and made them interesting enough. I eat that poo poo up.

Execution
All the other fighter/warrior classes are pretty good for playing. Warriors kind of need to rely on being able to get off a charge attack to be super awesome at dishing out large amounts of damage, but that can also be a certain type of fun. Fighters and Assassins are pretty much what you'd expect them to be, and Assassins have the highest Attack growth rate, if I recall correctly. I wouldn't put too much consideration for defenses, to be honest.

Rangers are actually pretty crazy if you have the right set up. The multi shot arrow skill that spreads in a cone can deal a shitton of damage.
Additionally, Magick Archers are pretty good, but only if you've got good Magic Attack. Unfortunately, Magick Archers have probably the worst stat growth. They're mostly rounded out with emphasis on something like Magick Defense. However, they are incredibly fun to play as with the arrow skills and being able to light yourself on fire. Unfortunately, you're going to have to rely on the ice shot ability for a lot of your bow damage, but it's still a really great class to play as. It's definitely my favorite to run around as.

Mystic Knight is pretty fantastic. Its ___ Sigil and ___ Cannon skills are really great at dishing out damage, though they do poo poo on your framerate if you use a bunch of them at the same time. Plus, wielding a meaty shield and a giant mace/sword is always fun.

Here's the press release for it: http://www.capcom-unity.com/neilgortz/blog/2013/01/23/delve-deep-into-terror-with-dragons-dogma-dark-arisen-this-april

Delve deep into terror with Dragon's Dogma Dark Arisen this April posted:

Following the announcement of Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen last year we are now pleased to confirm concrete details about this expansion to the world of Dragon’s Dogma. Scheduled for release on both PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 from April 23 in North America and April 26 across Europe, Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen is the next exciting chapter in the Dragon’s Dogma franchise. Coming both on a physical disc and as a full game digital download, the title delivers a huge brand new area, missions, enemies and more, plus all of the content from the original game.

Just off the Gransys mainland is the cursed Bitterblack Isle and it is here that gamers will discover an underground realm, complete with new terrifying foes to face and incredible treasure to find as they embark on an all new quest. Owners of the original Dragon’s Dogma will be able to export their existing characters and all other saved data, to continue their journey as the Arisen and face this new threat that has emerged from the cavernous depths. Players will be able to take their characters to new heights, with brand new high-level skills and augments as well as all new weapons and armour sets. For those that missed Dragon’s Dogma the first time around, Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen provides the opportunity to start their journey from the very beginning before tackling the all new content.

Furthermore, owners of the original Dragon’s Dogma will receive the following for free on purchasing Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen: 100,000 Rift Crystals, unlimited Ferrystones and the Gransys Armour Pack consisting of six brand new costumes.

Based on player feedback, Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen will make the Dragon’s Dogma gameplay experience even more satisfying, with improvements such as easier travel and a more intuitive menu system. For those who already own Dragon’s Dogma and then purchase Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen, these improvements will be automatically retrofitted to their original game.

So, what does Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen deliver?

All of the content from the original Dragon’s Dogma plus…

A massive new underground realm to explore featuring over 25 terrifying new enemies
More skills/equipment/augments:
Level 3 Skills
DD:DA provides each character class with a new tier of skills, giving players new devastating abilities and skills to master
Over 100 pieces of new equipment
All new high level weapons and armor sets for players venturing into the underground caverns.
14 new character/Pawn augments
New tiers of equipment enhancement
And there’s more:
Increased character customisation options
Item appraisal
Option to select Japanese voice over

Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen will be available for purchase across Europe as follows:

April 26: PlayStation 3 both disc and digital versions, with the digital version priced at €29.99/£19.99

April 26: Xbox 360 disc based version (with a digital version to follow as a Games on Demand title in the Summer)

In North America Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen will be available at retail stores for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, and as a download from PlayStation Network on April 23, 2013 for $39.99.

Unlimited ferrystones for folks who owned the original, and some kind of hinting at a fast travel system? Weird.
It's good to see that the DLC seems to be focused on strictly high level content though, since that's where the game's difficulty falls apart.

This drops five days after my birthday, I'm pretty excited, I'll start my second playthrough of Dragon's Dogma again especially for it. (My interest died off right after I got back and the Duke threw me in the Everfall, I was so bummed that was 'it' and I didn't even get to kill him .

Big horned winged guy looks to be the big bad, too, and a satisfying one to fight at that. I hope there's some resolution to what I mentioned above tough.

Definite day 1 here. We leave for our US vacation about 10-12 days after though-so I'll have a lot of playing to do in that time, heh.

Were those Firebrand gargoyle enemies I saw?

Looks great though-and even *more* character customization? I wonder what else we'll be able to do. Faster travel choice is cool-I love exploring but sometimes, just want to get back and forth. And it MIGHT just be that island we can see off the coast if we stand on the beach on the east of Gransys. More abilities? Augments? Really it all sounds perfect. Can't wait!

You should probably never limit yourself to one vocation. Each one has different rates of increase for various attributes, and augments from any vocation can be mixed-and-matched no matter what the current vocation is.

Also, assassin is rad, and you're not crippled as far as defense. Assassin can sword-and-board, or can dodge roll and use counter attack skills if your timing is decent.

Well, poo poo. A reusable Ferrystone was like my one thing I said would make the game even better, and now I'll get unlimited if I buy Dark Arisen? Dammit, Capcom. Stop making me swing between being upset with you and loving you fiercely.

Guess once I clear out my backlog I'll get it again. I'd get it at release, but since I already got the plat trophy... think I'll wait a bit until I know I'll have the time to dedicate to it. This time I'll finally try out the magic classes!

The main difference between mage and sorcerer is that sorcerers get even bigger, slower-charging offensive spells but no healing. If you don't like having to stand still and charge up spells you'll like sorcerer even less than mage.

If you want to use magic without having to slowly charge poo poo up constantly magic archer is actually great. It combines every type of elemental damage with being able to melee and climb on monsters while stabbing them repeatedly. Stats don't matter that much as long as you're vigilant about keeping your weapons maxed out.

No one man should have all that Psycho-Power.

I was looking forward to just starting fresh with a new character for Dark Arisen. I wound up spending about 80% of my game as a Mystic Knight before and I would like to give some of the other classes a bit more love.

I wonder if I start a new char will I still get those unlimited ferrystones? Because I really hope so.

Having two casters that can't heal seems like a waste to me. I swore I'd always keep my pawns diverse after having to punch a golem to death over the course of half an hour as a sorcerer because I had no strider or ranger with me.
