If I'm reading the site correctly, You're Gonna Miss Me the 2005 documentary about Roky Erickson is available on Netflix. It is a great look at one of the pioneers of psychedelic rock in the US and his struggles with mental illness.

Has anyone been watching Oliver Stone's Untold History of the United States? I think the last episode is airing on Monday (on Showtime), but IIRC, you can watch it online. It's been fantastic.

Just finished watching this, and despite the and sometimes very content, it was actually a very interesting film. Graphic Sexual Horror (2009) Graphic Sexual Horror is a 2009 independent film written and directed by Anna Lorentzon and Barbara Bell in their directorial debut. The film is a documentary about Insex, a bondage website. [wiki] Graphic Sexual Horror takes a peek behind the terrifying facade behind the most notorious of bondage websites, exploring the dark mind of its artistic creator and asking hard questions about personal responsibility. Interviews reveal deep fascinations with bondage and sadomasochism that run parallel, and in fact become irreversibly entwined with the lure of money. http://gorillavid.in/vid/38crpxci67xm

I caught West of Memphis at it's New Zealand premiere a few months back, and afterwards, Peter Jackson and Damien Echols came out and did a Q&A. Dude's really well spoken.. I really enjoyed the documentary, even if it was a bit heavy-handed in pushing Hobbsas the killer. .

I'd like to throw a warning on this, because I've seen the first part before: this documentary series occasionally will throw up some evidence pictures and video without warning that might chill you to the bone. It's censored but awfully shocking if you're not ready for it.

I will say a couple things, since I don't want to come off as being negative about it - one thing is that it makes me realize how reliant U.S. style tv docs are reliant on constant, driving music to tell you how to react to something. It's shocking how evenhanded this is. It also makes me think something like Chicken Hawk - Men Who Love Boys https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2l5Mc28GbEE could basically not be made today.

On the subject of "productions from hell" there's Audience of One about Pentecostal minister Richard Gazowsky's quest from God to create a sci-fi film. Overnight which details the journey of Troy Duffy and his trials of filming The Boondock Saints and how the possibility of fame goes to his head. And Operation Filmmaker in which an Iraqi film student gets the chance of his life when he is given the opportunity to move overseas and work on American productions after his school is bombed. It's cringe worthy to watch as he burns all of these bridges people throw at him.

Reincarnated http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2312602/ Snoop Dogg travels to Jamaica in an attempt to transform himself into a reggae star. Is it basically Snoop smoking copious amounts of weed for the entire running time? Yes. Do you come out of it with serious doubts as to Snoop's genuine desire to embrace Rastafarian culture? Absolutely. Do either of these things impede the film or make it less compelling? Not at all. I really dug this film, way more than I thought I would. I can't even put my finger on what exactly is so riveting about this, but I think it's worth a watch if the subject matter is even halfway interesting to you. How To Make Money Selling Drugs http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1276962/ Slick, smartly-presented look at the drug war in America with a number of interviews/sources including drug dealers, mules, and a wide range of celebrities including Eminem, Susan Sarandon, David "The Wire" Simon, and many others. It is presented as a 'how to' guide to becoming a drug kingpin and despite it being information that I largely knew already, I liked the way the arguments against the traditional philosophy of drug enforcement were presented.
