It's not as good as King of Kong, which is a near perfect documentary, but it's still really fascinating (and depressing). Spider dude was crazy.

I think the saddest part of that movie was the Christmas part. The mom buys all those souless gifts from walmart for all her kids with no real thought put into it and its all junk and crap while she sits there eating her caviar.

I love the scene where the nanny is bringing the new bikes into the house and she walks in to the garage that already has about 50 bikes inside. That mom was crazy and it's depressing because she clearly was a real, down-to-earth person earlier in her life.

I think the mass of bikes were not necessarily the ones they had, it was part of her massive Walmart Christmas spree so they could have some giant giveaway of tacky gifts to their family and friends to try and still keep up the idea that they are rolling in dough.

The Filipino maid dancing around in the reindeer outfit was the best.

Joe Bob Briggs did that movie on Monstervision once, and he had a transit map out and would update the viewer on where on the map the last scene of the movie (presumably) took place.

Good lord. I'm watching Iron Sky right now, and I'm baffled as to why I've never heard of it before this thread. "Sarah Palin" is the US president, and the Nazi's have been hiding out on the Moon waiting to come back and "bring order" to a troubled Earth. This would have been such a great Doctor Who two parter.

To contribute, I haven't seen Todd and the Book of Pure Evil mentioned. It's Buffy with lots of sex, drugs, and elementary school toilet humor. Season two starts a bit weak, but finishes strong, and overall the show is a solid guilty Pleasure. Also, I really liked Absentia. It's a no budget homemade feeling horror thriller that is probably the best Lovecraft film I've seen, without actually being a Lovecraft film.

I watched "Jiro Dreams of Sushi" last night and really enjoyed it. I'm not usually a huge Phillip Glass fan but the film music was very nicely done.

Overall I felt it was quite an inspirational movie about striving for perfection in something you love doing.

It will be interesting to hear about when the older son takes over the business though and how that goes.

Let's talk about where you're going.
Just watched "The House of the Devil" the other night. Man - this is what horror movies should be. Slow-burning, suspenseful, Satanic. I love the deliberate '70's/'80's film style. It was just about perfect for what it was.

"The Innkeepers" on the other hand was terribly disappointing. It started out promisingly. I thought it was going to be a suspenseful ghost story with some pretty good writing and decent acting. Unfortunately the last third throws that completely away with the lead getting a terrible case of the "horror movie stupids" and a terrible resolution.

"After Porn Ends" is a documentary about the lives before, during and after their porn careers. There's obviously a bit of genitals here and there but it's not a meat show. Both male and female actors are featured. It's not judgmental and overall worth a watch.

Night of the Comet is one of my top 10 favorite so-bad-it's-good movies.

Basically, it's about a comet that turns people into zombies. The story follows two teenaged girls who have to get away from scientists that want their blood, but not brains because the scientists are not zombies yet.

I'm just a big sucker for campy 80's movies.

Cleanflix is an interesting little doc about those movie rental companies in Mormonland, Utah that would edit out all of the bad parts of movies.

Many of the interviews were conducted in-store so I kept scanning the background to see what titles were available.. For example: The Doors, Army of Darkness, and 300. When watching one of those, wouldn't your mind fill in the blanks of what was left out resulting in impure thoughts?

Finally got around to watching this on a sick day from work. Somewhat amusing, since I went to a private religious school (not Mormon though) whose PG-13/R movies (mainly Shakespeare films) in school involved fast-forwarding through the "bad parts".

They mentioned some films that were "uneditable", such as Brokeback Mountain and Pretty Woman. Also seems they were much more tolerable with keeping in heavy violence and editing out breasts and sexual innuendos.

The twist involving Daniel Thompson is the best irony.

Dude, ix-nay on the oice-vay.
I just watched Yobi: The 5 Tailed Fox. It was actually pretty cute. I don't know much about Korean mythology, but the afterlife stuff in it was super surreal. I watched it in Japanese with English subtitles, so I have no clue if watching it in English is as annoying as watching other anime in English. I don't believe it had a Funimation tag, though, so you may be safe from them using all the same lovely voice actors they use for all the other anime crap.

I've been using Amazon Instant Video more lately, since if it's not a video that you get free with Prime, you can buy/rent it. When you take that into account it's got a way better selection and you can get currently running shows and all that. Netflix has been losing a lot of stuff that I liked (tons of stand-up comedy is gone, That Mitchell And Webb look is gone, etc.)

I'm so pissed off that That Mitchell And Webb look is gone because it's not available on region 1 discs. Farscape is no big deal because we all bought the original ADV releases, and then bought the Starburst edition just in case any of the original discs got scratched, and then baought the Blu-ray set. I mean sure, the Blu-rays aren't really that much better quality, but it's nice to have a double back up.
