I hadn't even heard of 4kids/Toonzai going under so this is quite a surprise to me. Vortexx's current line up looks strong though; It reminds me of WB's kid line up from the late 90's.

4Kids has been dead for a pretty long while. The loss of Yu-Gi-Oh pretty much was the straw that broke the camel's back for them after they lost Pokemon to Nintendo.

It was originally only shown at ONE convention never to be released to the public, its existence was almost a mere rumor. Recently the internet started clamoring to see it released for some reason, so this happened.

They put out something that so obviously couldn't be shown on kid's TV that their lesser infractions don't seem like that big a deal. The Adventure Time folks submitted this title card for the same reason. What's most surprising is that it got beyond the storyboard phase and the CN people actually had to reject a completed episode. I guess their s&p practices were different back then.

^ That episode of Spongebob had silly sound effects and "beeped the whole word" this sounds like you can hear the first letter, unless by brain is doing strange hearing tricks.

PhazonLink posted:^ Yeah. In the Spongebob and Tiny Toons episodes its still rather vague as to what the characters are actually saying, and intentionally so. Not so much in Rude Removal, where it's fairly obvious what four letter words are being dropped.

readingatwork posted:^^^ Yes. Yes it was. Beeping swears is only funny when you can use some imagination, and unfortunately it was pretty clear what words Dexter an Dee Dee were saying at any given time. One case where bleeps doesn't make it as funny; I'd rather have just heard it uncensored. That's half the appeal.

The whole appeal of Rude Removal, besides its being unavailable, was that it was a trashy and uncensored version of a squeaky clean kids' show. Now it's neither. I still enjoyed it; it's great to have a fresh episode of the good version of Dexter's Lab. But I'd rather have had trashy and uncensored.

I love fake swearing episodes. Hell, I love fake censorship in general (Rocko did this a few times). It's pretty much my favorite cartoon cliche that doesn't get used that often. What does Miss Carol think of her kids?

There was also an Animaniacs episode where Dot kept flubbing her lines during a "Beauty and the Beast" knockoff shooting. Cartoon Network is canceling Young Justice and Green Lantern TAS

Can't say that I'll miss Young Justice. The show was way too serious for its own good. Especially considering how some of the villains were trying to conquer the world via addictive sports drinks.

Young Justice was just taking way too long to resolve anything. I still can't say I like any of the original team. If they weren't all brooding, and sour, they were Ms. Martian...who turned into someone who was brooding, and sour when she started killing brains. Characters I normally enjoy in the DCAU, or even DC, I ended up really apathetic to. Though, I did want to see a more serious version of Static.

I may be completely wrong about this, but I got this feeling that season two was the "poo poo gets real" season and in the process of having to do so much work without major League support, YJ would do a lot of growing up and all the edge-hardening that comes with that. But hopefully by the end of the season things would be settling down (when the big-timers come back and hand the Reach their smarmy asses, pretty please?) and we'd be setting up for something a little less grimdark and a little more "Captain Marvel gets kidnapped by a disembodied French brain in Dalek armor". Green Lantern, on the other hand, totally doesn't deserve this

Cartoon Network got a head-start on its upfronts this year. Instead of holding a big party for their advertisers like networks usually do, they're actually bringing the party to their advertisers. Here's what they're announcing (besides the aforementioned cancellations):Cartoon Network posted:CARTOON NETWORK NEW SERIES The Yoda Chronicles is the next in the series of LEGO Star Wars specials from Michael Price, which previously featured The Padawan Menace and The Empire Strikes Out. Apparently, neither Craig McCracken nor Lauren Faust are involved with the new Powerpuff Girls special, which isn't surprising given as they're doing a series for Disney now. Here's a poster for Steven Universe (Rebecca Sugar is from Adventure Time- she wrote most of the original songs- so it's not surprising that it has a similar look) and a photo that may or may not be how the Powerpuff Girls will look in the new special, but it seems probable since it is very much in Kevin Dart's style (although I'm also getting a bit of a Mary Blair "It's a Small World" vibe off of it as well):
