I don't really know about any of these bands besides Code Orange Kids, who I really want to see.

The Deathwish podcast is generally fairly decent, although it varies episode to episode. The one that was a big two part interview between Patrick Kindlon from Self Defense Family and the dude from Most Precious Blood/Indecision was really good.

I can understand not having heard of Backtrack, or I guess even H20... but Terror is huge. In the top 3 "best live shows" for sure out of currently touring hardcore bands. If you don't like breakdowns I get it, but you should seriously watch them. Who doesn't like stage dives?!

I've never seen Terror, but I know they encourage stage dives. Seriously, who doesn't love stage dives?

I saw Bane (who are playing some dates on that H20 tour) once and only knew the words to maybe 3 songs, but I had a blast stage diving all god drat night. Then the songs I did know where pile on city.

What does everyone think of the "Black Flag" reunions?

Technically whatever Greg Ginn says is Black Flag is Black Flag, but I think in most people's minds its not a real reunion without Rollins. I mean, Ginn's reunion has a singer that was with the band for less than a year and sang on one release. The "Flag" reunion is also pretty wierd, with another guy (while iconic) who only sang on one release. They do have Dukowski, but I don't see them as any better than Ginn's "reunion". Rollins is definitely never going to play with Ginn now, so this may be the closest we ever get to a "reunion" show.

Apparently they're going to be recording a new Black Flag album as well. I don't give a poo poo about the reunion shows, but a new album actively annoys me.

"A guy" named Keith Morris who co-founded the band, wrote a bunch of their songs, and then went on to found the Circle Jerks. Just some guy.

He still performs a bunch of the Black Flag songs he wrote with the Circle Jerks

Jaded Punk Hulk had it right, the reunions are worthless, tarnish the legacy of the group, and the reason Henry's not involved is that he's a millionaire who's over doing music for a living at this point, especially Black Flag. I totally understand Keith doing it because he has major health problems, and SST was basically a non-factor in the 90's so, I get Ginn's involvement too.

Hey, I put the "iconic" comment in there for a reason. As far as I know he only co-wrote 1 song (Wasted). He sang on the 1st EP (which only had 4 songs), and then left. I'm just saying it would be weird to have Morris singing songs off of "My War" when he never sang them in the first place.

The music itself isn't bad, but the vocals are weird and the lyrics are atrocious. Hopefully this is just a weak song and the rest of the album is somewhat better (though to be honest their last truly great album was Crimson in my opinion.)

So if I'm really into Self Defense Family, especially the latest stuff, who else might I check out? I got into Lungfish through them, but I'm not really plugged into any sort of music scene and so am kind of coming at this from a void. I only discovered SDF by chance on the internet.

Yeah I looked at their Youtubes, wasn't much into it.

Saw Code Orange Kids, they owned, ppl in the crowd weren't into it because there was too much guitarwork. If you like eclectic hardcore and get a chance to see them, do it!

Most of topshelf's stuff is great, but if I had to choose one release from their catalog, it would be the Lack Long After by Pianos Become the Teeth. That album is loving incredible and such an emotional gut punch. If anyone hasn't listened to it, now's your chance.

Bandcamp limits the amount of free downloads you can have. They went through 16,000+ and then paid for 10,000 more.
