Gundam is cooler than I could have imagined. He's a dork, magician, blogger, hunter, and SHSL animal breeder. Too cool. i300 fucked around with this message at 04:55 on Jan 29, 2013 |

Hahahahaha, Gundam is a Bubbly Blogger. I'm really surprised that Togami was totally okay with hanging out with us. He's gotten a lot softer, in more ways than one.

Okay guys I got it, I totally got it. We have a SHSL Chef, two characters who make a point of gorging themselves, and the free time events clearly all revolve around food. The entire cast is, in fact, gingerbread men. Too much foreshadowing for it to be otherwise, and they are 2D...

Ok, I'd just like to say how glad I am that Togami and Gundam won, even though I voted for Togami and Sonia. Hearing about Gundam's website and Togami's critical analysis on Hinata's body fat ratio were things that were just amazing.

So Togami's all about being fat, and he seems to genuinely want to be a good leader. A refreshing change of pace from the utter dickweed he was in DR1. And boy I can't wait until we start getting hints at what Hajime's SHSL ability is. Hopefully it won't be a retread of Naegi's.

I dunno, I'm not really feeling the Gundam love yet. To me he just seems like one of those guys running around in medieval costume at Renaissance fairs, and even when not at them, or something. I'm sure he's a nice enough dude, but I think he could get tiresome quite quickly. And yeah, I don't think Togami's going to last long after that event. I hope we get an even with Nagito soon. Also, I hope Hinata isn't going to just turn into Naegi 'Huh? What? Unintentional ways of encoruaging character growth!' during these events. He's supposedly different from Naegi, but I actually haven't seen too much of it so far.

Wow, Togami is all . Well, at least in comparison to how he was before. He's gotten even nicer than he was at the end of DR1, even if he is still hilariously pompous. It's making me suspicious. I'm leaning more towards the "clone/imitator/distant relative/whatever" theory, although I also think that he believes himself to be the real Togami. Even if it is the real Togami, I doubt his new kindness will be explained away by the Power of Friendship. We saw what Togami with friends looks like already--he's the Togami from the end of DR1. This dude is pretty different from him. I suppose it's possible that spending more time with the survivors after they escaped, but this feels like a more fundamental shift of character. The survivors' dynamic was well-established by the time they escaped, I don't think that would change fast enough for Togami to pass as a teenager.

I wonder what Gundam writes about in his secret blog, though. Maybe it's secret recipes for awesome animal food or something. This Togami seems like less of a dick, so good on him! Although BMI is a weird thing for him to fixate on, especially the bit about being cold. Maybe he's from way up north in Japan or something.

Togami's newfound sense of noblesse oblige is fantastic. Between him and Sonia I almost feel like they're making a deliberate effort to head off "but heir's not a real talent!" complaints at the pass this time.

Togami's reasons for getting fat as gently caress are considerably more hilarious than anticipated. I think he kind of took away a bit of the wrong message from DR1. Like, it was kind of a thing in his character development where he was always anxious whether he was successful because of his family or because of his talents. DR1 sort of brought him down to earth. It taught him not to put himself categorically above everyone else, to try to understand other values than his own, and to prove his talent and above-averageness fair and square. And I guess since then, he's been trying to prove himself by pushing himself being considerably above average. In everything. Even poo poo like body fat percentage. Suzuki Method posted:Gundam is what Tumblr weirdos think they are. I think that's kind of the point. People have called him a "Chuunibyou"1, 2 parody which is basically Japanese for "arrogant overgrown manchild who acts like the real world works like some dumb anime or manga or something". He just takes it so far it stopped being lame and pac-man-scrolled back around to being awesome. 1 http://en.dic.pixiv.net/a/Chuunibyou posted:Chuunibyou (中二病), or "Middle-school 2nd Year Syndrome", is a colloquial and rather derisive term in Japan which describes a person at the age of fourteen would either act like a know-it-all adult, or thinks they have special powers no one else has. Some would even go as far as being obnoxious, arrogant, and often look down on adults or older people. This way of thinking or acting is mostly seen in teenagers during adolescence, however there are people who still act like this even after reaching adulthood. 2not up on your anime sperglord lingo? there's an English version of the pixiv (Japan's deviantArt) encyclopedia that'll allow you to become considerably goonier than your wildest dreams holy poo poo Falls Down Stairs fucked around with this message at 05:55 on Jan 29, 2013 |

I'm starting to have some considerable doubts regarding Togami's identity. He's starting to arouse my suspicion. Specifically, I don't doubt that he's a Togami, but rather that he's the same one we know. Honestly, I'm beginning to think he might be DR1 Togami's brother, or something of the sort. I recall back to DR1 when Togami mentions quite clearly that he didn't just get his heir right, he had to fight and work hard to earn it. It's almost like someone else was the heir to the Togami "throne", if you will. And given what DR1-Togami felt when it came to his position, it always seemed like a bit of a complex. This Togami seems to draw some similarities with Yamada. And that's not because he's fat. Rather, it's how he socialises. He means well, and does have a heart of sort, but he's more naive too. This Togami seems spoiled, and more like one would kind of expect of someone with a guaranteed pass at life, and yet he still has intelligence. He's still a Togami, deep down. He's just lived a far too easy life. His reactions with Hinata just now was what made me pretty certain of this. The setting and references to his family also suggest to me that he isn't aware of the most despairing tragedy/disaster, so I'm pretty confident that puts him in the "present" too. I doubt he's DR1 Togami's son. Brother though? Perhaps that's what he might be after all. Joenen posted:Good to know, I've always wondered why no one's carbonated lemonade yet. This genuinely surprises me. I thought this was popular around the world? I always remember cartoons with little girls, particularly, who would sell lemonade for $1. Isn't that what this is?

Isn't that what this is? In my part of the world, and I think in America too, "lemonade" refers to a non-carbonated juice made from lemon juice and sugar. It's also almost always made fresh - commercial non-carbonated lemon flavored drinks are not usually given that title. While we do, of course, also have lemon-flavored carbonated drinks here, none of them are quite like ramune, which has a very distinct flavor.

Noblesse oblige is a wonderfully rare thing in media. I mean sure you have plenty of benevolent kings and poo poo, but it feels less common that you see a character who is an /arrogant dick/ who also feels like he legit is trying to help. Hopefully Togami's character continues, I'm enjoying it. okay i don't even think i used it right but i just love the phrase noblesse oblige

It is actually bordering on the lines of absurdity how much Togami is a polar opposite of his character in Dangan Ronpa 1. Actually suggesting they come to him if they need help! Along with his dialogue talking when he accepts the presents, before he was only interested in items that the Togami conglomerate couldn't find themselves, now he's interested about the things he never had being a heir to amazingly powerful organization. He's really come a long way in sympathy.
