I was mulling the ramifications of some brave/idiot commuter charging forward into their hooning and getting into a collision with them. I imagine the winner would be the person with better lawyers, though maybe the court would side against the stunters.

That Ecoboost Raptor that was posted a few posts ago seems like the most stupid pointless thing ever? So they spent $40k on top of the price of a regular truck to swap a raptor frame and body onto a regular F-150, lose the Raptor interior, seats, and locking rear differential just so they can get the turbo V6 with maybe 50 extra hp and slightly better fuel economy? Is the terrain response/hill descent still there? Suddenly tank out of nowhere. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CfKNEkOSPEs

Is the terrain response/hill descent still there? Two things on that. First, that was brought up in the comments somewhere else and SDHQ responded that the level of aftermarket equipment and work somewhat evened things out if you're looking at the whole truck, but no one argues that it's currently unreasonable as a swap if you already have a Raptor. Second, it's owned by one of the shop workers and is being used as an attention-getting show vehicle to bring attention to their work. For that it doesn't have to make a bit of sense, just be different and interesting. Old but sorta relevant, one of the reasons a lot of us are interested in this truck: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZJ028xdfmCU

The guy said it was a customer vehicle, didn't say anything about it being owned by a shop worker. Also a new 3.5l V6 engine costs $17k? Maybe, but I'm pretty sure you can get a used one for much less than that, even if you had to have a new crate engine, Summit has the Shelby supercharged engine for $19k, or the aluminum Roush 427R for $15k, seems like if I were to go to all that trouble I could do better than the stock engine on a middle trim F-150.

The Ecoboost engine is objectively better stock than all of Ford's other truck motors save the Powerstroke. Pretty much on parity with the 6.2, it's got less peak torque but a much wider and flatter torque curve, so a much nicer powerband for performance driving. Not that that invalidates your point about other options, but it's hardly the slight step up from the base model you're making it out to be.

The Volvos sold in the rest of world all use it with the Ford/Getrag DSG. The rest of the world "T5" actually means 2.0l I4 turbo, only in North America do they still use that I5 engine.

So Jessi Lang is really hot and into cars, so Motor Trend gave her a new show on their channel called the J-Turn. Needless to say, the first show is her learning to do J-turns and Rockfords, taught by none other than David Freiburger. Motor Trend and Drive are really neck and neck for "best car related" YouTube channel. Hoonage is always good.

Pretty cool documentary about two Kiwi guys and their quest to run the biggest midget race in the world, the Chili Bowl. I just started watching it, midgets are small sprint cars that typically run four cylinder engines, but it seems these guys built their own incredibly small displacement V8. I can't wait to see what's up with that, I don't think I've ever seen something like that in a midget before. e- cool, here's their website. Tiny V8 that revs to 12,000, runs on methanol, and makes 500hp? I'll take two. Dyno testing vid. The noise! Seizure Meat fucked around with this message at 05:07 on Jan 30, 2013 |
