I'm on Chapter 11 or so and Crom/Female Avatar is basically soloing maps if I wanted them to as a Partner unit. The pacing in this game is insanely fast.

His starting stats are awful of course but Aptitude means he'll become a complete beast and promoting him out of villager is a relatively low-effort task even on Lunatic.

So, random thought: Say the worst case scenario happens and the Gamestop bundles don't arrive this week at all. Does anyone know how long the current Spotpass DLC will be up, and if the previous ones are wrapped in or lost entirely when the next batch comes out?

I believe someone said that the Spotpass DLC will remain free for a few weeks? You should be fine. Amazon hasn't sent me a shipping notification yet on my copy of the game, but it's still saying I'll have it by the 6th, so I'm not worried.

Hey Lissa, please never stop gaining Strength. In fact, if you want to never get Magic I'm totally fine with that. Staves heal well enough as it is. Just keep bulking yourself up so I can have the best Axe Murderer Princess this side of anywhere.

So Best Buy hasn't sent me any shipping notifications, but literally while I was (and am) waiting for an agent to answer my call, the order status on the 3DS bundle changed from "Out of Stock" to "In Stock." So. Promising?

Local gamestop didn't get it in, I commiserated on the fact that they didn't get it in with the manager (he was really mad because not only did this mean potentially a good few sales lost to the EShop but also because he had it pre-ordered too), and now I'm downloading it off the e-shop. This whole thing has been a huge blunder for Nintendo.

In my experience with amazon, I've had stuff ship and show up the day after the game came out because they sent a courier to drop it off. I suspect that they spend the extra because I'm a prime member though.

Played about 5 hours of this last night and I'm incredibly impressed with the localization. There's been only one character dull enough in dialogue, stats, and appearance that I haven't even wanted to use them (Stahl). The ones with the funniest lines are all characters whose designs never really appealed to me, so I have a team that's pretty disjoint from my playthroughs on the Japanese version (except that I am incapable of not using every pegasus knight in every game).

So I've been listening to the OST - what's the difference between normal tracks and tracks with the ~fire label? Is it just that they're shorter? Because that's what they sound like to me. Also kinda getting a FFTA vibe off of some of them.

ImpAtom posted:"Nintendo has people buying directly from them instead of Gamestop" sounds like they're probably pretty happy to me. Yeah, that occurred to me pretty much right after I said it. It's still bad PR if people are pre-ordering places and unable to get their game, as I'd suspect Gamestop is going to shove all the blame onto Nintendo. But by then Nintendo'll have all the money from people switching to eShop downloads, so it's moot I guess.

True, but it sure doesn't endear them to traditional retailers. Not sure how such places can respond, but I doubt storefronts are happy about being shabbily treated.

Just got off the phone with my local Gamestop. They're not getting any copies of the game, or bundles, until Friday. Almost all of which are preordered anyway. I have the bundle preordered, but I'm cancelling it and just getting the eShop version. I'm really loving pissed though because the only reason I forked over the $200 was because there wasn't any delay on the bundle. Hell, the GS clerk even commented that, at least at this store, the delay is not on Nintendo's end but on GS. The warehouse just didn't ship the items out. Apparently they hosed up last week as well, shipping out the new Hitman or something. EDIT: eShop is giving me some error (code 005-6534) every time I try to buy the game. Good thing I was waiting until after i got the digital copy to cancel! Annath fucked around with this message at 20:27 on Feb 4, 2013 |

Well I am super disappointed. Looked everywhere for this game but absolutely nothing like the rest of you. I only have an 8GB SD card so I definitely don't want to download off the eShop and take up 1/2 of my available memory. Guess I'm boned for a couple weeks at least.

The game is 1.5 gigs and bigger SD cards are dirt cheap Anyway, finally bit the bullet and downloaded the game. What's the difference between Pairing Up two units and having them stand side-by-side, other than having all damage and healing directed on only one member of the pair?

Some skills give special benefits when paired up. The avatar starts with one that makes them gain 1.5x exp, for instance. Also a stat boost. Speaking of, the first boss critted my avatar as per the running gag but she tanked it like a badass, then gained a perfect level. I can tell this is the start of something beautiful.

Calaveron posted:The game is 1.5 gigs and bigger SD cards are dirt cheap Pairing up units gives the front unit a massive stat boost. Each class will give their own set of specific bonuses when paired up, and every ten points in any given stat translates to +1 bonus for the frontline unit (up to +3). edit: For example, a swordmaster will always give +5 to speed and +3 to luck when supporting a unit. If you have the Avatar as a swordmaster with 20 base speed, that's a +7 to speed bonus to whatever unit is in front. RuBisCO fucked around with this message at 20:41 on Feb 4, 2013 |

Calaveron posted:The game is 1.5 gigs and bigger SD cards are dirt cheap Including what Rubis mentioned, you could also call it the Tactician's main gimmick. The Avatar's strength isn't in the growth rates, but rather the amount of experience they get. Paired up, they get 1.5 the amount of exp. So in the first maps, where a unit needs three kills to get to 90 experience, the Avatar only needs two. That adds up.

Also I just realized that the little faces at the bottom that make expressions depending on the outcome of the fight are an idea lifted from Advance Wars.

I guess now is a nice time to mention but I absolutely love the Pair Up system. Adds a ton of nuance to game in terms of who you should have out front, who you should pair with each other for stat bonuses, and swapping partners when necessary. I haven't played a single map where I don't pair up, and I'll miss it a ton if they don't decide to carry the mechanic into future titles.

Pair Up is a great mechanic. Basically the only complaint I have is that there's often not a reason NOT to pair someone. On Lunatic you're basically asking to get doubled without some minor speed boosts.
