Well, it's not so much recoil... I mean it _is_ so much recoil, but it's not the kickback, it's the kick. That moment of when you pull the trigger and oh look multiple Gs applied directly to your wrist. I've seen it break cheap digitals, I've seen it break phones, and I know one guy bitching at his dial watch that stopped working, but it wasn't that expensive, because people _know better_.

It's kind of how G-Shock watches got their name. Remember the old Timex 'It Takes A Licking' ads?

I would love it if White House would "leak" a blatant Photoshop of him shaking hands with Stalin or and have the conservatives eat it up.

The thing is, I can totally see Obama doing that for shits and giggles.

It's much more likely that one group believes one viewpoint, another believes the other, and the media/politicians pander to both groups.

I personally know people who believe and espouse both positions vocally. Umberto Eco even said that it's a part of the fascist mindset - constant re-framing of the message creates confusion in the minds of the cult's followers, leading to a belief that enemies of the state are both incredibly strong (thus requiring eternal vigilance) and incredibly weak (and are thus doomed to lose against the people). In Obama's case, I think them labeling him as a bumbling fool somehow makes them feel better about losing to him badly twice. I know it doesn't make sense but I think it's more of a defense mechanism than anything else.

That's kind of a prerequisite for conspiratorial thinking. The government has to be both overwhelmingly powerful and scary competent (BUSH DID 9/11!!!!) but also stupid enough to leave a billion loose threads and witnesses behind for the rag-tag non-sheeple to discover THE TRVTH!!!

In the end, it's really all just a massive cushion for small minds and fragile egos. A bunch of non-notables who cling to the sort of bullshit peddled over on prisonplanet and by Alex Jones as a way to make their boring lives meaningful.

If anyone needs an example of the true nature of the right-wing mindset, just read any article about the statewide ban on public nudity coming out of my home state of NC.

Suddenly, the "libertarian conservatives" are very much for this and I honestly haven't read a single blurb about it where they haven't supported such a ban by emphasizing how it stops hippies in Ashville from going topless. And what's wrong with going topless?

IT'S GROSS, EWWW. FREEDOM BUT ONLY IF IT'S HOT.

Is this sort of hippie-bashing still a cornerstone of right wing media? Maybe I'm giving them too much benefit of the doubt as far as being mature.

The nipple ban bill is more about Asheville's mayor and city council taking their cue from developers and trying reorient the town toward Florida snowbird retirees than it is about hippie-punching specifically.

You need only look at the political cartoons thread to see that, yes, hippie-bashing is still very much an important facet in the right-wing media. The McCoys, Lester, Ramirez, Allie, and all the other poo poo cartoonists just love drawing liberals as long haired, sandal wearing, free lovers.

It's funny about right wingers making a total nothing issue like the shotgun photo into some kind of tempest in a teapot, when Sarah Palin wasn't even able to work the bolt on her own drat rifle (her DAD does it for her) in the "caribou hunting" scene on her own drat reality show, suggesting the whole thing about her being a hunting, moose skinning mama is possibly complete bullshit and that she may possibly have not even ever held or fired such a weapon before. Whatever the reality of the situation with Palin, you'd think they'd at least get as excited about something that sets off the bullshit meter so much if they care so much about things being fake:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HW0Xx4DXkYk&t=39s

Not only did she not know how to work the drat rifle, she couldn't hit the drat caribou with it. Even more hilarious was that she was shooting .225 at the drat thing, which isn't really a type of cartridge that's capable of killing a caribou (properly, and without making a holy mess of things). While the .225 is slightly better than the .223 rounds everyone is currently freaking out over, shooting .22 anything at a deer (let alone a caribou which is larger) is considered idiotic. Odds are you won't kill it cleanly, you'll simply wound it and it will run the hell away, which is a fiasco for you and the animal.

She actually did get called on it. There were more than a few articles at the time, which are still easy to google, where people pointed out that she didn't bring nearly enough gun to be humanely taking down caribou. And should she have managed to hit it, she would have ended up chasing a wounded caribou all over the place trying to put it out of it's misery.

They even had various Alaskan park people talking about how you'd want 308 Winchester, or 30-06, or .338 if you wanted to kill a caribou and how shooting .22 at them wasn't exactly a great idea.

So on the one hand I'm reading about how Chris Wallace grilled Wayne LaPierre over some of the NRA's more outlandish claims re: gun control, even going so far as to say (though not in so many words) that the NRA was deliberately misleading the public; and on the other hand, apparently Ann Coulter went on a tirade on Hannity's show regarding Obama's planned "extermination" of 2nd Amendment rights.

Am I reading too much into this, or does the left hand literally not know what the right hand is doing at Fox News anymore? I can't imagine they would have splintered this much on the gun control front on purpose, with one of their people grilling the head of the NRA about their "ridiculous" (Wallace's term) ad featuring Obama's daughters, while another of their people continues to push the NRA's message that Obama is coming for ARE GUNS.

I find this happens most often when I'm discussing pro sports with conservatives. They seem to really resent the large amounts of money the players make and really get pissed off when they hold out or re-negotiate a contract. When I point out that the players should get all they can, that the free market is basically determining their salaries and that the people who pay them are 100 times richer than the players are, they sort of have like a...like a glitch or something. A moment where they're trying to add it all up but all they're getting is the little MAC rainbow pinwheel for a moment.

They'll say stuff like "no way those players should be making that money. They're not They're not worth it. There should be a limit". There is. It's called a salary cap. There's also revenue sharing among teams, which is socialism. I'm not sure how they rationalize a "get all you can" mentality on one hand and then claim that players are overpaid.

This is kind of to go along with those posts about Janet Mefferd many pages ago, but the Word FM has some crazy people on it, some of whom I can't remember anymore what their name is and wish I did. I mean, they have the ACLJ on every day, and at least once a week they have a program called The Invisible War which is basically a crazy old man ranting.

Then they have XServatives Talk which stars a black conservative man who can't figure out why other African-Americans can't stand the Republicans.

And then there's two I wish someone could help me with. One was a guy whose schtick was that his dad was apparently a friend of Al Capone's and how he was the only religious person out of his family.

And then there was this late who had this very stoned New Age way of speaking and was mostly pretty much trying to talk about bettering yourself and love and stuff and stuck out like a sore thumb in that there was no hate to turn me off from listening to it after a few minutes.

I have no pitty for them, they make millions. But if you want to stir the pot you should point out that football only exists because it's socialism (only a few teams actually make enough to exist on their own, the NFL is socialism) and they are unionized to get those high payments. To boot, it's only due to government subsidies their stadiums even exist. Football is nothing more than a government paid for, union run, socialist organization.

Every single NFL team is one of the top 50 most profitable sports franchises in the world. They do split all the money, but that doesn't mean that any one team isn't extremely profitable by itself.
