That's just the way he rolls.
There's lanesplitting when overtaking parked traffic at some lights at 5mph, and then there's lanesplitting when you're doing 50 mph between 2 cars that are also doing 40mph+. One stops the bike overheating and the other gives me a nice new set of lungs if I ever need them.

I learned from this video,

1. Lane splitting and generally riding much faster than the surrounding traffic is really, really stupid.
2. Motorcycles slide significantly further than riders.

How did you not learn the most important thing?

I agree with the Ride Apart guys; it's one less vehicle sitting in traffic. Lane splitting can certainly be done recklessly but if the relative speed difference is < 10~15mph it seems pretty fine. I'm glad it's legal in CA.

I live in CA and sit in bumper to bumper traffic every Thursday night. I know, I know, not as bad as if I lived in LA. I have to say lane splitting is a mess. I have yet to meet a biker who goes that slow while splitting. It's really bad if you are on a slight curve and can't see more than one or two cars back. You just get a flash of light then he's there and gone.

One day I'm going to accidentally take out one of these motherfuckers and I'm not going to feel sorry about it. Well, I'm sure I'll feel sorry when my insurance goes up.

Part of me thinks he's a dick. A larger part of me, having seen more than enough pedestrians in London, has no issue with a few of them getting clobbered by a bike.

You cannot always be looking at your blind spot when changing lanes, so if some idiot decides to drive though it too fast and destroyes his bike as a result, then no, I will not feel sorry.

Lane splitting at traffic lights, when all the cars are stopped is fine, though.

Yeah I see nothing wrong with lane splitting at lights but people who do it on the highway at 80 mph are loving idiots who deserve whatever they get. At least 1/4 of the accidents in that motorcycle crash video were caused by people lane splitting at inappropriate speeds and being unable to stop when a car pulls a normal turn.

also lane splitting in weird spots, like the right shoulder on a normal road with turnoffs.

The current deal is you and 24 of your pals need to plunk down 50k (total) for their COTA private track day experience. The couple of clubs that had negotiated a better deal got letters a month or so ago saying "Sorry no". A couple had paid in full and managed to keep their reservation probably due to lawyer reasons.

I guess you could go to your local politician and argue your tax dollars helped build it and you have the right to reasonable / affordable access. However, I imagine that'll be as effective as screaming at a wall.

For comparison: A track rental at Laguna Seca will run you a bit north of $20k for the day. Then you just split it up among however many people you like. I think the max on track limit is 20. However, that's for on the track at once, not all day.

VV I guess he got sick of people mocking his driving. Not that I haven't missed a corner or slid my car before. Everyone makes mistakes. I just don't do with my arm hanging out the loving window or grasping the A pillar. VV

I bashed them big time when they cancelled all those days. The problem is that there's [i]just[/] enough demand from the people with lots of cash at that 'rape you in the rear end' price that they have no reason to change. They can say 'hey, it's open to anyone that wants to pay the going rate'. I can't justify ever paying $2K+ plus consumables for a track day. I know very few people that can. It's cheaper to drive faster than safe on public streets(I never would. Street racing is stupid.) and pay the tickets.

U-joints. I can't find a whole ton of info, but it appears they have a single disc brake on the transfer case input. Also, steering is done by a single ram which changes the angle between the front and rear cars.
