It's so bad I'm actually pretty skeptical it was meant as a demonstration of performance, and not just a Popular Mechanics style "imagine how awesome this would be if we built it!" kind of thing. Anyone have credible articles pointing to either interpretation?

To keep the Norwegian ball rolling: The HMKG (Hans Majestet Kongens Garde, literally His Majesty The King's Guard) are always impressive. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7gS7iq3S1ME Keep in mind that these are conscripts, only serving for a year. Rigel posted:That dude drags a Norwegian flag around in the snow, are other countries not as reverent as U.S.A No. 1? This really depends on the local garrison commander. Where I'm stationed, any flag that touches the ground is promptly separated into the different colours, burned and then buried.

Time for some content. My grandpa passed away last month at 95. He was a seabee in ww2 and was at Guadalcanal. Here are a few of the pictures I have from him. I also have some negatives that I'll try to get developed later. this was on the back of the last photo, he punched an officer.

Syrian rebels shot down one of the regime's Su-22s yesterday with a MANPADS, and most of the action was caught on video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WXxAk6i1qLU Judging by how many times the dude fires that launcher, I think it's safe to say that the rebels have achieved 80s music video-level weaponized editing technology.

Hrm, they're modified Ford F-450's apparently, strange to see such beasties in the UK. I don't know if the Met had anything similar prior, the tangi operated mainly in NI. I remember seeing a picture of dozens of them lined up a street during the riots, but I can't find it. On another note, protesters painted up this Saracen and gatecrashed a demonstration with it, complete with a full set of demonstrators decked out in full riot gear in the back. It also seems that various American police departments have an interest in 1950's British armored cars.

Rigel posted:That dude drags a Norwegian flag around in the snow, are other countries not as reverent as U.S.A No. 1? A bit late, but in Denmark we are allowed to burn our flag 'Dannebrog', since it's the correct way to dispose of a worn flag. We are however, not allowed to burn the flags or national symbols of foreign nations, as that may become a political spectacle. Wikipedia posted:It is illegal in Denmark, under section 110 (e) of the Danish penal code, to desecrate the flags or national symbols of foreign nations, while legal to burn the Dannebrog, Denmark's national flag. The reasoning of parliament was: the burning of foreign flags falls into the realm of foreign policy, as the burning of the flag of another country could be understood as a threat to that country. The burning of the Dannebrog, on the other hand, does not concern foreign countries, does not fall under foreign affairs, and so remains legal. According to Danish tradition, burning is also the proper way to dispose of a worn flag. According to tradition, care must be observed to ensure that a flag never touches the ground, i.e. even when being disposed of, it should be placed on top of a fire. Flying the flag after sundown is also inappropriate behaviour. So whenever people get angry at us and burn our flags, we can just shrug and carry on.

From my cellphone, which is not the best, it looked like like a 16/18 type launch (the -16/18 look different than a -7 launching, fairly different motors and ejection profiles) and it looked like a smooth smoke trail.. On my poo poo screen though, like I said. I thought the first hint of engine fire was a prox det, so that much I can see now was just an engine fire. Prox det + no spiral + what I thought looked like good optics on the launcher (Again, lovely cell phone screen) made me think -24, for a bit. Which would be a pretty sorta thing. When I get on a computer I'll take a better look.
