Is this possible actual gold? Looks clean but maybe overpriced? How dumb would it be to consider this as a daily driver? (I know almost nothing about rotaries)

Those make pretty good daily cars as long as you keep up on checking the oil, replacing spark plugs at the correct intervals (a 5-minute job), and other basic stuff you'd do in any other car. Very simple to work on and reliable. $3200 is a good price given that it's stock and has a fairly low-mileage engine. the 13B can go upwards of 150k miles when it's naturally aspirated like in that car. If I lived closer to VA/DC, I'd jump on it. The S5 is a great-looking and driving little car.

Check out the electrics and sunroof mechanism issues documented for FCs. If those all work or have been addressed, it's worth it. The suspension might be really tired, leading to unpredictability from the rear.

Cool, thanks. I emailed the seller. If it's still available I will have to do a little model-specific research before I meet him to look at the car.

If it feels like you're stirring soup when you're trying to shift don't worry too much. It's pretty common and usually not a big deal to fix (the bushing at the shift lever itself as well as the plastic socket the end of it goes into). But do use it as a bargaining chip.

Meh. Depends on what you want it for.

Pluses of white cars (for me):
*They don't show dents very much.
*Superior heat reflection characteristics.
*Dead easy to touch up / respray sections when necessary.
*White paint is cheap.
*White cars are fairly visible.

Minuses:
*Can be kind of dull and samey looking.

If you want to live in car hell, own a black car. It will look clean for approximately 1 day. One of the biggest reasons for getting rid of my ZHP was the jet black paint, it was IMPOSSIBLE to keep clean when you park outside. Looked loving amazing when clean but that was 1 day out of 30.

White doesn't really tend to look all that bad unless it's actual brown dirt. It just kinda looks dull when dirty but not terrible.

White cars aren't that bad. To be fair, mine is ivory. A very subtle off white. It looks awesome after a clay and a wax, it also hides the swirl marks and water spots really well. The down side is that after a rain the road dirt is pretty conspicuous. I also get a lovely waterfall of filth cascading down my trunk lid and rear bumper.

He'll tire eventually.
White only shows dirt when there's enough of it that it stops looking white. Dark, glossy paint shows dirt when there's enough of it to interfere with the reflection of the surrounding environment. You get a coherent reflection from the clearcoat on both black and white cars. But on the white car, that's drowned out by the white paint scattering light all over the place...there's no contrast. The reflection is almost invisible. On the black car, all you see is the reflection. The latter is far easier to ugly-up.

If you're worried about dirt, there's always beige.

Rx7 guy got back to me. My summary of his reply, since I'm on a tablet:

Typically sees about 20 mpg in mixed use, claims to have gotten 26 on highway. Headlight wiring harness has been replaced. Antenna is stuck in up position - can hear motor whirring, unsure if new head unit not wired correctly or gear stripped. Sunroof stuck in closed position. Windshield wipers only work on medium speed (has been that way since he got car in 2005). Passenger window button does not work, but window can be controlled fine from drivers side. Ding on front bumper.

Seller seems pretty open and honest about the car and its issues. I am going to go look at it sometime this week. The electrical issues are my only real concerns right now.

Those are the least scary electrical issues I've ever heard of in an aging used sports car.

Well maybe I'm just being paranoid. The techs at the service center where I work tried to scare me away with stories of blown engines, including one guy who owns a gen1 and one who has owned a gen2.

I have owned two gen 1's. The first one died when the engine just ceased to have compression. It was weird too because I would run for a bit then just putter out. Eventually it wouldn't start at all. I got it towed behind a truck once with the ingnition on and I got it busted off one last time but I didn't have the foresight or motivation to keep the car and fix it when I was younger... I wish I would have put a V8 or a 2jz in it. The second one I killed by trying to pull someone out of a ditch with a tow rope in reverse. It destroyed the clutch. I only paid $800 for the car so it didn't make sense to fix it at the time. Again I wish I would have kept the car but younger me went through cars pretty quickly and didn't care much.

Turismo is a carbureted K car, its a total ancient shitpile and will be slower and less economical than you can imagine. Toyota has no interior but is cool and way too expensive. The LeSabre is at least double its worth for a slow old shitpile, the carb turbos made about 180hp and the non-intercooled EFIs made barely more. Th Corvette sucks and has a lovely drivetrain. I bet that Landcruiser is totally rusted out, but if it was in California or somewhere not rust-prone, that would be the one.

Short answer, skip all of those. Fly to California/Arizona/Nevada/etc and drive a cheaper/better car back.

The only FB to ever own in California is the GSL-SE, which has the 13B with fuel injection. every other FB is carbureted and a gigantic waste of fuel and time to keep passing smog. Hell, the other good parts like LSD and rear disc brakes make the whole thing worthwhile.

DJ's right on the Turismo. It's not a turbo car, and thus will be mind numbingly slow. Its essentially a early gen Omni underneath with a whopping 96 HP.

Buuuuuuut it looks like it is in fantastic shape, with all the awesome tacky 80's decals intact and really easy to swap a Turbo II into, they can be made to handle with some Shelby charger donor parts. But don't expect any investment on one of these back, ever.

That being said, I lust after that Lesabre with the GN Swap. There is something about a malaise era luxobarge with a turbo EFI motor in it.
