Dear Interpol fan,

We encountered an issue with your order for Interpol's Turn on the Bright Lights 10th Anniversary - LP/DVD. You should have received your LP/DVD in January, and we sincerely apologize for the delay. Unfortunately, we are unable to ship you your Double LP/DVD as this product is now out of stock, and will not be restocked.

We have gone ahead and cancelled and refunded your original order, and although we understand that this will in no way replace the Double LP/DVD, we are shipping you a free copy of the Turn on the Bright Lights 10th Anniversary CD as part of our apology. Sorry again for the inconvenience, and thank you so much for your patience and support.

Shut up shut up shut up.

That's never gonna be a problem. I had a bunch of my LPs in a 2x2 for almost 2 years without incident. That thing's survived 2 large interstate moves and a current reassignment as shoe storage and it's still rock solid.

I've got my LPs and hifi equipment in/on a 2x4 one now (in sideways "credenza" mode) and that one feels solid too. I wish it weren't an IKEA Expedit- if only because everyone's got one and it screams "poor student"- but I simply don't have the money or room for fancier turntable/vinyl furniture.

People run into problems with the bigger expedits because they load them up without securing them adequately and because the load bearing components and fail points remain relatively the same as the size and weight of the bookcase increases exponentially. Yes, that is absolutely a design flaw, but anything 2x4 or smaller should be rock solid unless somebody body slams it.

...and if you're still super worried about your expedit collapsing, it's ridiculously easy to jury-rig a brace out of a board and some screws.

Yea I'll probably just get some braces for $3 at Lowe's. I sort of want it to last longer anyway. I'm not made of money.

Just bought my first vinyl, Starfucker's Miracle Mile, primarily because it came with a free ticket to their show next month. Came with a free slipmat too, from a local record store called Origami Vinyl. Total cost: $22

Earlier in the day, I bought a ticket to that show on Ticketmaster. Total cost: $32.

So yeah, what do you guys think of this Jensen turntable as a starter? I figure I can hook up some $20 logitech speakers to it. It's just $46 new http://www.amazon.com/Jensen-3-Speed-Stereo-Turntable-Silver/dp/B000UVKE2I/ref=zg_bs_3003611_5 I read the OP and it didn't mention exactly which model you guys recommended in the sub-$100 range..

Erm. So jumping to $76 for the AT-LP60 makes sense? http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002GYTPAE/

Alternately, there may be a used turntable somewhere in the city of Los Angeles but I am too scared of buying the wrong thing.

So, my preamp loving poo poo the bed. Actually, the amp itself is probably fine, I probably just need to rewire or replace the power supply. It was kinda low-rent anyway, since I'm eighteen flavors of loving broke, but oh okay, it's actually listed as $50 online, gently caress. I'm still kinda low-rent since I'm still broke, but what do you think about it? Should I go to radio shack and try and get a new power supply, should I try doing the wiring job to the supply (the insulation's come loose from the wire around the plug and adaptor end) or should I just huck it and get a new preamp?

A used vintage TT is going to be leagues better in that you can replace the cartridge with something new and goon approved. Find a TT that isn't broke and slap a decent cartridge on it, and you're set.

Any of the modern garbage TTs like that Jensen, or Crosley, etc, will be poo poo.

How did I never hear about this? I've been trying to get this on vinyl for so long.

edit: I just bothered to read that long rambling description, and it appears that this isn't the genuine soundtrack. It's basically a recreation of it. Lame.

edit 2: So I skimmed their site and it looks like they just sell knock off versions of movie soundtracks.

Does anybody have any opinions about Matador's vinyl reissues of their older albums?
I've been thinking about picking up some stuff like the New Pornographer's first two and some of the Yo La Tengo albums.
There are very few reviews of these online but the more recent Matador stuff sounds pretty decent and one would assume that these remasters follow suit.

I have a lot of Matador stuff, particularly most of Yo La Tengo's releases and they all sound good. I Can Hear The Heart Beating As One is the only reissue of theirs to get a 180 gram pressing but the rest are fine. I don't know what's still in print so if you see an older album you want you should get it sooner rather than later.

Not really. The audio mastering is what's important. The one actual benefit of the thicker vinyl is that it's less likely to warp. Some people say that the added thickness gives it a better sound because of the deeper grooves, but that's probably bullshit. 180 gram is pretty much the standard now anyway. Most new releases and reissues are 180.

Well 78s are made out of shellac which breaks really easily. Vinyl is a lot harder to break and was marketed as unbreakable for a time.

There was all kids of poo poo in the crossover too. Got a few Mercury Esquire children's 78s that are just flat out perspex or something. Definitely not styrene, definitely not shellac, vinyl, pulp core shellac (Diamond disc). Guess they were experimenting.

Well, I think they started making records out of vinyl because there was a war or a shortage or something. I'm not 100% sure. And hell, not even all vinyl is vinyl. A lot of singles were pressed on a different substance, it starts with a P and wears out a lot faster. I think polyethylene.

Yeah it's bullshit, you can get better freq response with more space between the grooves, not the groove depth. It's mainly just a selling point

Haha poo poo, I was actually thinking of this exact clip but was hesitant to post it. For those non-Australians this video might be a bit hard to understand, but this is from Hey, Hey It's Saturday which was a long running variety TV show that ran for 27 years on nothing but racism, toilet humour and an occasional bit of star power. Nothing in this video is what it seems and the whole thing is essentially a piss-take.

Wow, It's very hard to describe Hey Hey.

I realized I haven't introduced myself properly to this thread! I might as well say that while I'm not a big collector, I do have a crate of records! My prized record being a first edition press of TISM's "Great Truckin' Songs of the Renaissance" (Remember that "Everyone else has had more sex than me" video with the bunnies? same band) and I love Moog albums. Found the first edition of Switched on Bach, with 'Bach' sitting down, in a thrift shop for 50 cents, very happy with that!
