Nothing says "I love you" like digging up that last box of greenbar perforated feed paper you've been saving for a special occasion and firing up your dot matrix printer. Though perhaps this is just state of the art at the Court and I'm reading too much into it.

It's actually addressed to Kat. She decided to tinker with the machines so they always ask Annie to get the mail.

They're so advanced with antigrav units and biodroid parrots that they surpassed the need for "paper copies" years ago. Printed letters are looked upon as quaint and romantic, like (real) horse drawn carriages (robot horses don't count as romantic). man wouldn't it be awesome to not have to support printers anymore

Wha? Things keep happening. I really can't think of who this letter is from. Maybe this is a cunning trap the court robots have set for the mysterious rugby-ball-headed robot that infiltrated their prison a couple years ago. Its identity became immediately obvious to Lindsey so she knew to give the letter to Annie.

I was kind of worried this last set of arcs was meaning perhaps things were going to be drawing to a close sooner than later for some dumb reason. And then we get a whole new mystery and plot thread. *phew*

I really enjoy the confused faces on this page, both annie and Rey's. Also, I noticed that it wasn't said that the letter was for annie, just that there was a letter, so it probably is for Kat.

At first I thought it might have been from whatshisface in the forest (Kamlen?), but the ratty printer paper and somewhat angular heart seems rule that out. Some robot seems most likely. Or maybe it's from Tony who wants to get another message to Donny.

Spikey posted:That's some really old looking printer paper too. It kind of looks like paper from a circa-1980s printer. And yeah, the heart looks odd. Maybe Kat has a robot admirer I would say that it could be from a girl for Kat, as a follow up to the Paz thing- but that feels a bit off-note for the comic. (Also no, Kat doesn't have to oppose Annie because of some stupid essentialist "technology vs nature" crap. They aren't D&D alignments.) Tea-san, that letter had better be from a girl, or so help me I will tweet at you so hard Perestroika posted:Or maybe it's from Tony who wants to get another message to Donny. Really though this is the funniest possibility. Tony has plenty of legitimate avenues of communication; he just prefers the method of repeatedly loving around with his daughter's emotions and social life. No particular reason, really. By the end of the comic she's going to be completely desensitized. "Wow, Annie, it looks like your admissions letter from Mysterious Sci-Fi University, Magic Forest Campus finally came! Isn't this just so exciting?" "Probably not." "Uh... aren't you going to open it?" "Why bother?" "Well that's just silly! Here, I'll do it! Ahem. 'Antimony. No, because now I'm just disappointed I didn't think of actually enciphering something there. The joke would be on her, though; that's just how MSFUMF sends out all its acceptance letters.

Zero Star posted:Is it bad that my first response to this was to run it through an ROT13 decoder to try and find a hidden message? If so, I'm right there with you. Although actually I just tried shifts based on one-letter words (of which there are a very limited number). On an unrelated note: every Gunnerkrigg Day for the last two weeks, I've expected to see the little end-chapter symbol on the page, but the chapter keeps on going! This is not a criticism; it's just that any of the last few pages would have served as a conclusion if required.
