Lloyd Irvin posted:

Oh you have a boyfriend, I understand, and you know, I have respect for that, I do have to appreciate it cause its rare to find someone who you can be with and that's a cool thing.

But I also know that you can be in a relationship one minute and the next minute, you don't know what has happened. I'm sure you have experienced that, haven't you? Yea, so well lets take this guy for a minute, lets imagine this guy (point to the palm of your hand), lets say you're going out with him and then you break up with him. Have you ever broken up with someone?

And then you suddenly start to look back on the relationship and notice the things he does that you can't stand. Like maybe he leaves the cap off the toothpaste, or he ignores you or does any of those other things that generate all those feelings of being let down, bored or disgusted or all those things that represent that in him and you get to the point where you just can't stand it anymore. You got to break up with him. Did that ever happen?

Oh yea! Maybe you even look back on the relationship and you become obsessed with the things you hate about him. Till you get to the point where you think to yourself, god, what did I ever see in him. Has that ever happened to you?

You know, the whole thing is, that entire process can take months and months, but I'm wondering what would it be like if that entire process were to take place instantaneously in your mind. It would be like if you try to (wave your hands in her face) see his image in your mind, you couldn't do it. It would be like something unknown was simply breaking it into pieces, you know. Its like you couldn't see his image in your mind anymore and that's the first sign that will let you know that you're already starting to find him a lot less important (cover the palm of your hand).

Now that's a sad thing when you put someone behind you, but its also a happy thing. Cause when that happens you open yourself up to someone new (sp). You allow someone new to come inside . . your sphere of influence and penetrate your thinking. Now that's a great thing to make that connection and only feel good right now.

(transitioning to Incredible Connection) You know, when you connect with someone its like there's a cord of light going from you to them. And as that just starts to glow with the warmth of that connection, and as the depth rich warmth of it just spreads to where you want it to go, its like you want to create an opening, an opening for pleasure an opening for connectiveness and desire. I mean, what's it like when you're with someone who oooohhhhh, you know, really knows how. Isn't that a great thing. Now you may be surprised to find that as I talk about that, you start to have certain images and I don't know what those might be and I won't ask you cause the content might be a little personal, but as those pictures get bigger and brighter oooohhhh you start to add in those sounds that make you feel perfect. You may begin to realize there's something you really want and you got to have it. I mean, have you ever woken up and really had to have something. What's it like when you want something so bad that you just feel filled with the desire in a way that just makes you feel perfect.

Sometimes when someone has upset you, its best to forget about them. You know when you think about that, when you forget about something or someone where does it go? Like someone you use to know a long time ago, or what about something you wanted to be when you were a child and it never came to fruition. Have you ever used Windows, 95 or 98 / a Macintosh computer? Do you know how you put something in the trash? Now try to remember something you wanted to be when you were a child... Was there something you wanted to have or something you wanted to be? (she might answer "a dancer" or "a model" or "an actress"). Ok, you could still become one some day, but point to where in your mind you see that idea right now. That's like the recycle bin in Windows / trach can on a Macintosh! (Or just imagine, if you were to put something in the trash in your mind, just where would that trash thing be located).

So just take all those thoughts about him, if fact, you may find that the image of him, for some unknown reason, powers itself, sneaks itself, down there and stays there. And any thoughts you might have of not listening to me and obeying everything I say, you may be surprised to find them going right down there as well. That's right. (Point to where her boyfriend's picture has moved) Seeing it from this perspective, I invite you to notice how you might feel - you were so wrong about this guy. Have you ever thought you loved someone and then you suddenly realise for some unknown reason you deeply love someone else (point) much much more. And when that's happening its a sad thing in a way, but also, its a good thing..."

Some more reports on what the "medal chasers" culture is like. http://www.bloodyelbow.com/2013/3/5/4066506/team-lloyd-irvin-sex-abuse-cult-power-medal-chasers-exodus

Here are some swell excerpts.

quote:

According to a source, Irvin also recently held a meeting with a portion of his team to discuss his prior rape arrest. "There were eight male team members in the room, and he told us the sex was a 'train' and the girl was 'down'... he then said the next day the girl's boyfriend found out about the incident and made her report it as rape." The former student continued, "Lloyd told us he had paid for Matthew Maldonado and Nick Schultz's lawyer retainer when they initially were arrested. And we were given specific instructions to not to tell anyone he did that."

A second source also said that Irvin arranged for Maldonado's and Schultz's defense, stating, "He hired the lawyers. 100% it's a fact. I was there at the meeting, I sat in on it, I heard it. 100%. There's no lies to it, he hired the lawyers."

quote:

A while back, my son and daughter were discussing her desire to practice jiujitsu again (something my son is always encouraging his sisters to do) and she asked what he thought about her coming to Lloyd Irvin's gym to train for a few months. At first my son entertained the idea, but as their conversation became more thoughtful about the logistics, etc., my son recanted. Then he said after a minute or so, "no, I don't think you should come." When she asked why, he said, "I don't want you around Master Lloyd, he can be manipulative and I'm not totally sure I trust him." I was pulled into the conversation by his statement and asked what he meant, but we were distracted mid-conversation and never got back to it.

quote:

The allegations of improper conduct between instructors and students appear to extend beyond just the main school into affiliate gyms, such as with the story from roughly five years ago, of a then 17-year-old former student at a Lloyd Irvin affiliate school who claimed that she was forced to show her instructor -- not Irvin, but an instructor at the Irvin affiliate school -- all of her text messages and Facebook conversations and then was forced to have sex with him for somewhere around a year. When the incident was reported, the only action taken was to have the instructor removed from the school. This story was corroborated by multiple sources, with one source stating that this instructor was told not to fly back to the gym when the information came out at a jiu jitsu tournament, but no police involvement was ever sought.

It seems like this is slowly morphing into MMA/BJJ's version of Penn State. I wonder if the IBJJF and UFC will step up and ban Lloyd Irvin and anyone competing under his name from competing.

Anyone know much about wrestling camps for high schoolers in the Northeast? My GIRLFRIEND's sophomore son wanted to go to an intensive at Lockhaven, but now his eye has been caught by the Ohio State camp.
It's shorter and a little cheaper, but with a little more travel expense, so it's sort of a push, expense-wise.
Anygoon have any experience with, or knowledge of, either camp?

Ohio State has a very highly regarded coaching staff. I'd say go for that one.

Edit: With the caveat that it also depends on his level. A JV kid might get more out of a longer camp with more drilling and personal attention, even if it is less of an "elite" camp. It's not like the Lock Haven coaches are bums off the street. A guy who is already a good wrestler is going to get more out of the Ohio State camp even if it is shorter.

Well I was more thinking of a member exodus until the gym itself is irrelevant as a competitive team. We just need to spread awareness of what the hell is going on with them so that new practictioners can opt for something else. Sadly I doubt that other organisations will take any definitive action unless it's in their own interest but maybe I'm being cynical.

Watching a high level black belt pretend to be a white belt is pretty entertaining. The shrimping is amazing.

It's also interesting to see the huge range of skill levels in grappling in action. This guy is tooling purple belts who in turn would tool blue belts who would do the same to white belts and random people off the street. It's funny to talk to people who have no idea how big the gulf is between someone who "sucks" in the UFC compared to a normal non-freak athlete human being. I've got a friend who watches UFC and took some "MMA grappling" classes that consisted of a bunch of completely untrained people rolling around with no instructor. As far as he knows, he would be about as good as a blue or purple belt if he started BJJ because he's somewhere between a world champ and Bob from accounting.

Even a white belt with three months experience can usually tool someone on day one of grappling. Of course, some guys can tool people at higher belt level because you'll find sometimes that guys who're serious competitors get promoted slower than the guys just doing it for fun so tha the competitors can spend some time in the lower divisions and get experience before moving on. I know a blue belt who regularly destroys purples and browns in training.

I had a friend try bjj on an open mat night and rolled with me and a black belt. It was interesting to hear his view: He said it was hard dealing with me and he felt like a child versus an adult. With the bb he said the best comparison was deer versus tiger or maybe a sweater in a spin drier.
