Serious post, I really enjoy watching the Snowbirds. Yeah, their shows don't have supersonic fighters buzzing the crowd at Mach 0.99, but they perform with 9, not 6, which adds something imho, and using CT-114s allows a more intricate performance.

Flying commercial on AirTran today. WiFi in flight is pretty rad. 717-200 to ATL right now.

Regarding the Blue Angels cancellation I guaranteeat least party of that is a PR play. But canceling those shows had been pay off the navy's sequestration plan from the get go.

To me, passenger air transport is a reasonably fungible commodity, however, Southwest is my singular exception to that rule. I'll pay more to fly with them, because I have yet to have a poor experience, unlike just about every other carrier out there. (I think Spirit actively hates it's customers, and would rather they not even show up to the airport.)

Oh Giraffe you're havin' a laugh!
I do the same thing on my transcontinental flights. What's funny is that the difference between, say, Delta and British Airways SEA to LHR was $70 on a $900 ticket, and the flight times were 9 hours with no layovers instead of hopping to Chicago and waiting four or so hours.

I tend to agree with you but I'm having a pleasant experience with AirTran so far. Got me from Pensacola to SFO (about an hour out right now) with minimal delay and a great price. Maybe it's the fact they are owned by SW now?

Ditto, for domestic flights I usually don't bother searching other airlines at all. Everyone treats their passengers like cattle, southwest is just the nice farmer that gives them a pat from time to time.

Flying with elite status trumps everything else in my book. And by sticking to an airline with a real mileage program I've quickly earned very expensive tickets for free. Totally worth it.

It will be interesting to see how the A321's that AA is purchasing work out in comparison to Virgin America's service. If it's anything like the 77W (and photos look like it will be) it'll be the best way to do LAX-JFK. Woo competition!

I've had similarly good experiences with JetBlue. They still give you a checked bag, tvs at every seat, and snacks. Stuff that united wanted to charge for. Plus flight attendants that will grab two beers and hit the slide.

That may be going to the place I work. Spirit in North Carolina ships out their A350 fuselage sections on the An-124 sometime, and we've got one heading out in a few days.

If you've got a high enough res to see some identification numbers on it I can check it against ours when it gets here.

I have a bit of a dilemma.

FIFI is among the aircraft coming to the Reading Warbirds show this summer. Rides are available; cheapest is a gunner's seat at $575.00.

My wife would probably kill me.

Death would be a certainty in the bombardier's position, which is going for $1575.

Not sure I'll ever get the chance again.

I took a ride in an AT-6 at the reading airshow when I was 16, and it's something I'll remember forever. My dad sprung for it on the condition I not tell my mom how much it cost, though, lol.

Given that I live in Alaska, I end up flying Alaska a lot. If you're a resident you get 3 checked bags at no charge and the customer service has (thus far) been very good for me, so I'll generally pay the couple bucks extra to stay with them the whole way.

I have no heartache over a lack of IFE because I have an iPad already, and it has way better choices for me than whatever sanitized crap an airline would let onto a family flight.

Everyone bitches about how much it costs to get out of here, but goddamn, we're a town of 30,000 people without road access and we get 8 737s a day. Them things don't fly free and I choose to live here (and thus don't really consider myself 'hostage' to them).

Now, if I see that whatever I want to do involves a flight on Delta, I'll cancel the loving trip. gently caress those assholes. I once started a trip with them and at the first stop they gave away our seats claiming we weren't on the earlier flight (well, then, genius: how did I get here?!), the second stop was Seattle with the last flight being Alaska. The ticket agent showed us where the connection to Delta's computers said in large font 'DO NOT BOARD'. She spent two hours on the phone and the problem was never resolved but they let us on the plane anyway because Alaska is awesome and Delta can piss off.

Flying into Heathrow still ends up costing $700/person in fees and airport taxes, but the 2-for-1 reward vouchers mean my wife and I go First on BA for about the same as we'd have to pay to fly at the back of the plane. I couldn't take photos to adequately convey how massive that thing is. It was awe inspiring to walk around. Really awesome museum.

That's BA only because of the fuel surcharges. APD is like 150 british pounds for premium travel which you pay on BA as well. My AA flight's taxes were far less, but still had to pay APD. $700 in taxes/fees is more than I paid in taxes/fees for a 3 week around the would trip for 2.

Why not fly the new AA 777-300ER? It's a better hard product and much improved soft product compared to BA from early reviews. I won't know until January.

drat, I was going to say C-123, but that nacelle looks more like the ones on a C-119 so definitely a J34 (I only really have exposure to transports). It is definitely not off a C-119, though, because those were mounted with the nacelle essentially upside down. http://www.flyinghigher.net/fairchild/N8504Z.html
