Actually as daft as this is gonna sound, with some of F's tunes at times I got a more kinda Breakbeat Garage vibe from him. But less the Zinc/Jammin and Darqwan kind of thing and more along the lines of like that Abstract or Ming & FS style. A bit more breakier and maybe slightly more slicker than the UK stuff, though obviously filtered a couple times through the whole Dubstep thing. Shame I don't think I've seen anything new from him in a long time.

Other sounds I miss include Cosmin TRG's housier stuff from that one Tempa EP he did. I want more of that.

Also, re: Blawan and that sound, to me it's the new wave of UK techno, but that's totally an outsider's view as I'm not in the UK and not at those parties. It makes me think of rowdy warehouse parties, and more dark & dirty looking. I've seen a couple posts on the Dubstepforum.com's production page, and Objekt did a Q&A as well. But those two names alone are vastly different in style.

At least they didn't play tunes under their voices for most of what they are saying, making it almost impossible to sample their interview in a tune. (I hate it when they do that, cut us a loving break)

Like there's a few cuts I would take from this Mala one that I just found via that Blawan youtube:

Problem is that his best lines have tunes playing under them.

Definitely a good one. Though it's on Numbers so it should be automatically expected to do the business. It's the B-side that I think I'll be rinsing (it's always the b-side though isn't it?). The dark garage of Black Reign and the kinda haunting Drum & Bassy Nova, both I like.

And hey, Think & Change is finally out! Sadly the 5x12" is way too rich for my blood, so I'm stuck spinnin' a pair of round shiny discs. Doesn't dillute how good it is mind you. Though if you've been keeping track of the couple of samplers released over the past month or so you knew that already.

It's been the first Kassem Mosse track that I keep going back too. That, Martyn's Bad Chicago and the Basic Soul Unit number are my pick of the litter. I really like that Instra:mental and dBridge track too however, though it feels kind of out of place with the rest of the stuff as it's pretty spacious and earthy versus everything else which in general is on a more tech or house vibe.

Who will win the greatest battle of them all?

Managed to get into Boiler Room at SXSW and it was life changing. So many people tried to get in, yet the venue was a large warehouse in East Austin so was comfortable moving around.

Was excellent seeing Baauer and RL Grime drop garage classics. Skream was beyond wasted and when 2am came around, lights turned on and a CDJ somehow ended up thrown into the crowd. And I guess he's not trolling about just playing house/disco...

Disclosure are also a sight to behold live. I'll still giddy about their surprise set at Barcelona and hearing Running VIP.

God drat, my phone died and life led me elsewhere so I missed Boiler Room. Oh well, that Skreamizm show at Barcelona was legendary. Such vibes, Skream is an amazing dude. ("This is my favorite DJ in the world, Jackmaster!") He did play a lot of disco, and was particularly hyped on Route 94 - 21st Century Love. Disclosure, Jackmaster and Plastician were all fantastic. Probably gonna drag myself to Mad Classy tonight to properly close out one hell of a south by.

Well nice to see people still liking some of the dancefloor action from SXSW, even though despite being told otherwise I still sometimes forget and think it's only for guitar wielding folk. I know a lot of you went and enjoyed it last year, so it's good to see it hasn't gotten too stale since then.

Some release news now though. Komon(azmuk) & Appleblim stitching together a Frankensteins monster of killer basslines, Garage bump 'n' flex and MK/Todd Edwards cut-up sample vibes for their new Applepips release. B-side ain't half bad either, it's got a bit of a drive about it, but it's laid back about it.

And for those crazy people out there who've sleept on the Eglo records stuff, not to worry, they've got a double CD thing packed with the highlights just for you coming out next month.

I don't think Skream was sober for a single moment of SXSW. Well maybe Boiler Room, as seen here. For what it's worth, the guy was triple fisting when I was chatting with him at Barcelona.

Red Bull just posted this interview:

I personally don't mind this house/nu-disco/bass/techno stuff at all, though not gonna lie, I saw some confused faces throughout SXSW.

And: Mount Kimbie, Scuba, Mosca, Jamie xx, South London Ordnance, Dusky (though more tech house really? that is blurry to me and I don't completely get it. I guess along the same vein as the guys who produce "future garage" but do house music too.) I'm afraid of saying Disclosure as I don't want 28GBB to go off at me :ohdear:

Hey I'm not that bad man! Well, most of the time anyway...

I do think they're pretty Future Garagey in that sense I guess. Believe it or not I don't actually have a problem with them really. I mean I think they're pretty lightweight and it's not really my cup of tea, but then I am a picky oval office so that's nothing new. Honestly I complain more about their career trajectory more than anything else, but then I am also a suspicious, cynical as well as picky oval office so hey.

Anyway I'd check out the recent releases on the re-awakened R&S sub-label Apollo which has veered towards that end of things on a lot of their recent catalogue, though sometimes with a bit more spacey, ambient-ish tinge as befits that label. Though can sometimes seem to knock-off Burial a wee bit too much. Things like Submerse Synkro, Indigo Volor Flex, and whoever.

There's the whole Future Garage forum and site too which is probably worth a check, which has various mixes, release dates, features etc etc. And the forum isn't half-bad either. Kinda reminds me of what DubstepForum used to be back when that first went up actually.

Plus all the usual labels like L2S Recordings, Frijsfo Beats and Slime. Though they're all digi-only labels sadly so I don't really keep too up to date on them.

Reminded me of what a cracker This Is L.A. was, when it all comes in just total devastation.

And speaking of D&B artists (or former to be correct), Nubian Mindz continues his return to the scene with a new EP on Phuture Shock Music, soon to be followed by a full length I believe - as well as a couple of other releases soon to come by the sound of it. Bringing his trademark Detroit mixed with West London style it's sounding very good if you ask. Here's hoping they actually put all the tracks on the vinyl this time (gently caress you Disko404 I'm still bitter).

I hadn't heard much of anything from L2S in a long, long time. And Frijsfo isn't strictly digital, I did manage to get a white label of the "Resi Claart" single from Geiom. I guess it makes sense that he gets the vinyl release, since I think he's a co-owner and he's got a higher profile than Point B and... the other guy. Don't know what happened to Berkane Sol.

True enough, though they seem to be a bit bipolar on that front though. They seem to switch from real to digital every other release with neither rhyme nor reason. I don't know if it's just depending on who the artist is or whatever like you were mentioning. Of course it could always be they just don't have the cash flow for the vinyl release and just float it out digital instead.
