Huh, looking at it again I noticed a couple odd details. Terezi's eyes are still redder around the edges than Karkat's are, and the bloodshot veins are red. Perhaps her eyes are literally healing as we (and Karkat) watch? Also I'm pretty sure this is a callback to Dave's WTF face back when Dirk ollied outy.

The veins are probably colored that way because of the way her sclera is tinted. If I had to guess. That and it would look weird to have teal veins in her eyes.

I kind of figured this was the case after other people started suggesting it during Meenahstuck. What if the reason she went crazy with Gamzee's religion was because she couldn't handle regaining her sight? [While maybe even losing her ability to smell/taste color.]

Totally called it~ Whatever conversation is about to happen(or that we're jumping into the middle of) is going to be something very interesting, and likely pretty important information for some stuff that'll be going down later. I wonder, though, if maybe her eyes just slowly healed on their own over time? Maybe the remaining red is the last of the burnt eye bits that haven't recovered fully, and these three years have basically allowed for her body to naturally recover most of her sight. Either way, whether it was natural or done by some healer type, Terezi saw the blindness as a core aspect of herself- her dreamself was blind when it didn't need to be- and losing that is going to have left her pretty shaken.

On a story level, Terezi of three years ago didn't want to be healed. She saw her blindness (which wasn't really a handicap, since she could perceive visual information by smell and taste) as a memento of her beloved parental figure which she did not want to lose. Then she fell into a weird funk, based, apparently on a combination of hatedating a clown and thinking her ancestor was better than her. Now her vision has returned. We don't know if she had it healed back during Meenahstuck (and was covering her eyes to lie to Karkat) or if they are healing as Karkat watches (in which case, the choice is being forced upon her), but either way, there's an element of sadness to it. On a metaphorical level, Terezi partially represents blind (unbiased) justice. She holds her friends and enemies to the same criteria. She doesn't give Vriska a pass out of sentimentality. But she seems to have fallen in with a bad crowd, and now her eyes work. This may have implications.

Remember that her dreamself was blind too, whereas Tavros and Vriska didn't share injuries between real and dreamselves. For Terezi to get healed of her blindness indicates shes had a serious identity crisis. E: or read Bob's much deeper analysis^^^

I just had a terrible thought. You know how Terezi's quirk is harder to read with lowercase letters? Hence why Hussie always gave her uppercase? What if she's trashed enough to do the Gamzee aLtErNaTiNg CaSe thing, as well as her 413 thing? Or if she did the vriska thing and started misusing her quirk? Either would be rather unreadable.

Yeah this wasn't really surprising. As soon as it was clear Terezi's eyes were being explicitly covered, after the idea that they could be healed had been introduced, and that her blindness was part of her confidence and identity except she was going through a period of self-doubt, her having healed her blindness seemed pretty obvious. I'd have been surprised if we saw her eyes and she was still blind. Although I am a little surprised she's been hiding it all this time if she really was healed a year ago. Has she managed to keep that hood down for a year without anyone asking about it? Anyway. I'm curious if keeping her eyesight is going to become part of her new identity, or if losing her eyesight again will be a part of Terezi regaining her confidence and sense of self. I hope she keeps her sight since on a practical level eyesight is pretty useful and I'd say it better indicates growth to forge a new identity rather than reclaim an adolescent one.

Yeah, at the same time, the audience demanding Terezi go blind again to fulfill some thematic point would be creepy. Arguing that blindness is her culture (which I basically just did) is bordering on those weird deaf culture people who refuse to let their kids have hearing aids. It's a terribly interesting situation and I can't wait to see what happens.

Probably not true since hey here's Karkat and his eyes are fine, but it'd be kind of funny if instead of Aranea's healing touch it was Gamzee with an ice cream scoop and some troll's corpse.

You can't have more than one blind character in a comic for too long, it's inherently unstable. When Sollux went blind, the comic corrected itself by half-killing him and making him half-blind. With Sollux back to full blind, the comic reached stability by making Terezi see again.

I saw the update and, after frowning over how short and empty it was, frowned further as I figured too that her bloodshot eyes should be teal. Then I later came to the thread and found out I missed the most important part. Can't wait for the next update now. Regarding the eye color thing though I guess it makes sense. We never really saw another troll with coloured eyes since most trolls we se are kids, and kid trolls don't develop eye color till they are older.

I get that Terezi saw her blindness not as a handicap, but as part of who she is, but part of growing up is changing one's self-identity as you progress from a child to an adult. I just don't think we should jump to the conclusion that this is a bad thing just yet, at least not until Terezi explains herself. But this isn't worth getting into arguments over, sooooo...
