You know, for some reason the thong just doesn't bother me. I think it's because next to the general tackiness of all of these outfits, it's just another weird thing. Guess I'm just numbed to that by now. It's just another silly-as-hell Nomura costume design.

Though sometimes, one must wonder if by now he's just doing this on purpose to gently caress with cosplayers.

Other than that, these really do look pretty, and I hope Lightning Returns is a fun game to play.

I also hope that it won't have required you to finish XIII-2 to get the story, because I could not manage it.

"Stand back, Ottawan ruffian, or face my lumens!"
I've decided, after finally getting at least one of each tail, to write a guide here to save some people some time and frustration.

Red Tail: Found around Deist or in the Cave to Deist. The Chimera that guards it is mostly a direct-damage/magical-secondary monster. Just pile on the damage and he'll fold. The Blood Lance this rewards is very worth it, but never use it when you're going to be up against any undead mobs - it's the best lance in the world (it heals you for whatever you hit for) until you hit a zombie for 8000 damage and you one-shot yourself. Verdict: Worth hunting only if you're using a Dragoon.

Blue Tail: Found around Rusalka, but do yourself a solid and go back into the Underwater Temple accessible through what's left of the village (westward bubbles, not northern), walk through the easy pre-Chapter mobs until you find a U-shaped corridor with a room in the middle that has a few pillars and a meaningless platform in the middle. The Aqua Rex seems to love this room for some reason and the chance of encounter is enormously high in here. The Aqua Rex has a nasty surprise in the form of the Toxifying/Confusing "Bite" attack, and he has a nasty knack of using these on characters very near the top of their meter, which means you could eat a four digit attack from one of your own members. The Mermaid's Harp this rewards is "okay" if you plan on leveling a Bard. Verdict: Worth hunting only if you've got or will level a Bard for F-Abilities.

Yellow Tail: Found around Fabrica, but much like the Blue Tail, go into the Anima Grove forest dungeon and go as west from the start as you can until you find a room that's just a dead-end loop around a big tree in the middle. High encounter rate of the Great Avian in here, and the mobs aren't as difficult as the ones outside. The Rocket Punch this rewards is *out-loving-standing* and turns any Ninja or Monk you have into a sniper that can inflict Paralyze with each hit chance, which makes having two on a dual-wielder priceless. Verdict: loving get TWO.

Gold Tail: Found in the area immediately around what used to be Castle Burtgang. The Gold Dragon is a Lighting spitter and has both singular and AoE attacks. It also loves to counter direct damage with a paralyzing attack. There's no alternate location to find this guy because Castle Burtgang ceases to exist in Ch4. The Ultima Blade this tail gives is disappointing. It can only be used by Paladins, and much like the Yoto-Muramasa, has an anemic ATK that only goes up as your HP goes down, and at this point in the game, you shouldn't be bottoming-out very often, and *certainly* not staying there very long to get the benefit of this sword. Verdict: Skip it.

Green Tail: Found around Yggdrasil and in the Mazewood Dungeon, but easily locatable around Yggdrasil. Probably one of the easier grabs, because the weapon it gives is good but not stellar. The Torosaurus is certainly distinctive as it's a unique mob, but it's not very difficult. Just pour the damage on and it dies. Verdict: Get *one*, because if you like having characters using bows in the back row, the Auto-Crossbow is amazing for adding AoE damage as it hits *everything*.

Grey Tail: Found around Castle Falgabard. It has the weakest HP of any of the tail monsters, but the highest evasion. Don't use anything but magic or special attacks on this thing to bring it down quickly. Also, like the Aqua Rex, this little prick has the Tox/Conf "Bite" attack and also loves to use it on people near their turn meter peak. Verdict: This is the only one that I can realistically call a "must get" because the Dark Knight becomes useful in the post-game. The Valhalla increases the physical damage cap past 9999hp for the entire party.

Pink and Silver Tail: I'm combining these two because there's enough black bars on here already. The Silver Tail is not worth getting. There's a freely-accessible Muramasa in an unguarded chest in Hagakure that's better than the Yoto-Muramasa this rewards. If you're a completionist, the Silver Dragon that drops the tail is an Ice version of the Gold Dragon and just as easy to kill. The Pink Tail is gotten from the Flan Princess around Gardenia, or you can just grind a million gil and buy one with coins at the Casino. I don't know why you would, though - since knives are dogshit weapons and shouldn't be used by anyone in the front row, and it makes no sense to use them in the back row.

I'm playing through FF4 for the first time on my iPad and as a disclaimer I am absolutely terrible at video games, but I'm having a hell of a time with keeping Rosa and Rydia alive during a lot of boss fights. I'm stuck on Lugae at the moment because of this, I can't keep Rosa alive long enough for her to cast any buffs or debuffs and the guy loving gets like 3 spell casts in a row per turn meaning if all of my guys aren't dead they will be extremely damaged and no amounts of Cura/ga are going to be able to catch them up before he gets another 3 loving spells off and kills one of my two healers. Am I underleveled or something? Cecil is the highest at 42 and everyone else is either high-30s or 40. This is bonkers, it's like my 3rd wipe on this rear end in a top hat already. I'm willing to blame my first deaths on not knowing his gimmick but now that I do and he's still winning I'm wondering if I should just turn in my gamer badge now.

Enjoyable game otherwise though, I wish they'd give this treatment to the others in the series!! I'm looking at you, 6.

I've played a fair amount of jrpgs and this is by far the hardest one i've played. I'm playing the GBA version and I always feel like i'm struggling through just to find the next savepoint. I feel the game wouldn't be as difficult if characters didn't pop in and out constantly thereby negating my grinding sessions just so I can have two new mages be ten levels behind of Cecil... and then die

Probably didn't help I finally learned how to cast on all targets when I went back to Baron :bang:

The PS3 version of Final Fantasy X HD will also include FFX-2 on the same disc, the Vita versions will be sold separately:

quote:

Final Fantasy X HD on the PlayStation will include a second game as part of the package—its direct sequel Final Fantasy X-2. The news comes via a report in Jump magazine. Both games will be based on their International Edition releases.

On the PlayStation Vita, both titles will have to be purchased separately. The two games are slated for release sometime this year. A price has not been announced either for the PS3 or Vita versions yet.

We're being watched.
So I ended up finishing XIII and sitting there wondering what the point of the game was but still, I enjoyed the battle system and I wasn't about to do hunts because XIII-2 was in it's shrink wrap waiting to be opened along with it's guide. I'm enjoying XIII-2 so much more than XIII it's absurd. The story can still go gently caress itself as far as I'm concerned but, wow, FREEDOM. I've been following the guide, and swearing at it repeatedly after I spent hour after hour waiting for an Albino Lobo to spawn (tamed it on my 7th fight), which is pretty good at telling me where I need to go but not making the game ridiculously easy.

I'm sort of disappointed with the graphics, they seemed to be worse than XIII and the lack of CG cutscenes was quite a shock at first until I remembered that I was just skipping them in XIII because, once again, the story can go to hell. I guess it was so there'd be continuity with the outfits you can buy? (Yes I bought them, shut up I like playing dress up for some reason:colbert:). I'm only up to The Archylte Steppe ???AF for the first time so I know I'm not far in but this feels like what XIII should've been, gently caress those corridors forever I don't think I'll ever play XIII again.

Pretty huge if it turns out to be true. Apparently development "stopped" on XIII Versus and they changed the project to FF XV. At some point Sony came on board. Square Enix and Sony co-developing FF XV exclusively for PS4.

Of course I won't believe it for sure until it's announced.

I absolutely buy it. I've been saying this about Versus for like a year and a half, and Square's bizarre non-show at the PS4 announcement helped confirm it for me. Versus is the game they were talking about and is gonna be at E3 under a new title, the only thing I'm not positive about is exclusivity. That weird conference thing could go either way.

Possible. They were probably going to reveal it at the PS4 conference and then decided not to at the very last minute.

This sucks, though. I was not planning on getting a PS4 any time soon, but if Versus actually exists and comes out for it, well. So much for my money.

To be fair the last game we saw which was a cancelled project retooled into a new one was Metal Gear Rising which ended up pretty good.

It really depends on if they delayed it out of a desire to really do something that will revive the brand or just out of ineptness.

Now you're making me want a Final Fantasy game developed by Platinum. I still don't understand why people have been so hyped up for XIII-Versus/XV/whatever. Is it really just the usual "I don't know anything about it, so it's sure to be good!" thing?

Seems to be because it was a Final Fantasy set in a realistic modern-looking 3D setting, with people wearing clothes actual humans might wear, and with action-based gameplay. Different characters seemed to have different abilities affecting gameplay, like a character with a gun that could manually aim at weaknesses/body parts, and a character that could throw his sword and teleport to its location. You could apparently use mechs and other vehicles to fight and get around. Environments appeared open and explorable, and to some degree destructible.

Basically, it looked like a more "mature" Final Fantasy that took a bunch of the best aspects from prior games and Kingdom Hearts to make an interesting-looking RPG-action hybrid.

It's Square and it's Matsuno, and those are two of the greatest things, so yes :colbert:

VS is another game that plays well with emulation, the models look about as good as you can possibly get on the PS1. Awesome soundtrack too.

My only real beef with the game is that weapon crafting and swapping are fundamental to the game, and the 'save each time you craft' and lack of quick weapon swap are really lovely. It could have used a PSP re-release with an updated UI :(

But yeah, if you've ever heard about but not played, or played and didn't know wtf you were doing, check the game out again. There's a much broader knowledge base about how to get through the game using only a few weapons, and crafting is all spelled out, so you don't have to play medieval crafting sim to progress easily (not that you did originally either, I beat it without any faq knowledge :colbert:).

The sole reason I want a 3DS is to play Crimson Shroud. I really hope he's working on something bigger now :ohdear:

Versus on the PS4 is something I'd really be looking forward to, since we'll finally get to see Square's new Luminous Engine running a proper game. In previous interviews, it was mentioned that Versus was only using the lighting from Luminous and being developed with its own engine, but now that it's been moved to a more powerful platform, and the engine's been demonstrated with a full tech demo, it could be the first game to actually use it.

In the gameplay trailer from a few years ago, you could see that the hair was much better looking than in XIII and XIII-2, which used a dithered effect that made the hair look quite grainy. You can also see how the lighting looks during both the day and night.

I'm just going to come out and say it though: Final Fantasy Tactics is pretty overrated. The story starts out really good but degenerates into magic crystals halfway through, the only reason the plot stays interesting is because of Delita. And the job system is cool and all but being limited to four people (three if you have a guest) kind of puts a damper on the tactics part. Always preferred Tactics Ogre.

That seems to be a trademark of Matsuno's games. He tends to start out heavy on the political intrigue then a supernatural threat comes and usurps the limelight towards the middle and ending acts. FFT was great for its time and is still one of my favorite RPGs ever but the story hasn't aged very well, even with the new translation.

Actually you have 5 characters, or 4 with a guest. And I'd say it remains the best implementation of the job system the Final Fantasy franchise has ever put out. There's no debating that the story loses a lot when it starts focusing on magic demons instead of political maneuvering, but it maintains enough of the latter to keep things somewhat interesting to the end. But in the end, it's the gameplay and job system that makes the game great more than the story.

Uh, but the main character is just as customizable as any of your other characters, so what's your point? And it's a tactical RPG that involves a job system, so I don't get your point about "I bought Final Fantasy Tactics" either. When you consider how shallow most of that genre is (I mean, I like Disgaea but come on. Tactics Ogre had more units on the field, but they were all much less unique than FFT characters), FFT is a really good tactical RPG. I mean, maybe the genre isn't your cup of tea?

I don't really get how not liking FFT that much means I don't like the genre. I play Fire Emblem and Shining Force all the time and Tactics Ogre is one of my favorite games. The thing is is that FFT really isn't all that strategic, I mean you have to move your units and plan your spells but that's about it. The Tactics Ogre remake had that problem too, it gave all those customization options and those stupid finishers which meant later on battle became more about finishers than strategy.

I'm gonna sperg out here, but... I consider a true tactical RPG to like chess, where it's more about strategically moving your units and trying to decide later moves rather than min-maxing your characters. Obviously a level system is present, but it shouldn't really be the main focus like it is in FFT (which also has much smaller map sizes and smaller characters). It's a good game but not a very good tactical RPG.

I'll be honest here, I'm not seeing why these two things are necessarily mutually exclusive. Take the Super Robot Wars series: Later games in the series introduce the "Battle Mastery" mechanic, optional objectives present in each mission. Some of these require a significant amount of advance planning to accomplish. However, the SRW games also have a heavy focus on stats, on pilots, mechs, and weapons. In the end, it works out pretty well.

I mean it's cool to have both like that example, that's probably the best kind of SRPG actually, but FFT doesn't really have any sort of strategic maneuvering because the maps are so small.

Final Fantasy Tactics begins with a focus on the "Tactics" part of the title, but honestly your guys get so overpowered near the end of the game that if you're not actively trying to handicap yourself the game is really easy. I'm not sure how tactical Tactics Ogre is since I never beat that game, but I remember in FFT that you get so many good guest characters for no reason, they're not even hidden, that even if you're a complete newb at the FFT Job System the game is still a cakewalk, and even if you don't use them if you have a slight understanding about how the Job System works you can make such super powered dudes that are just warping all over the place stabbing guys twice in the back for mega-damage.

I still love FFT, all of it, even the stuff at the end I really liked, with the evil devils and stuff.
