Now be a dear and
fuck the fuck off.
It's pretty obvious we'll need to dip into either the EU or the Prequels, unless FFG become involved in a marketing bonanza for the upcoming Disney sequels. I've received my three TIE Defender from Shapeways now, and I can't reccomend that guy enough, they're really nicely detailed, and the right scale, I'm going to run them as variant Interceptors just for the variety.

They're a pretty menacing looking ship and would be a great model to have, but I think that along with the E-Wing, TIE Defender, and other EU ships they won't be miniaturized.

I seriously think that after wave 3 we'll probably see prequel ships... and as much as I don't want to sound like a whiny nerd, that's where my interest wanes.

I would be pretty happy if they added it. Shadows of the Empire stuff is about the only EU type ships I can stomach. The Outrider would be cool if not somewhat redundant. Maybe some neutral bounty hunter type ships? The houndtooth or something or other I remember was kinda cool looking.

Hope you're having an amazing day

Got my first few games of x-wing in using just the starter set tonight, cracking fun game, looking forward to playing more of it and roping my brother and sister in law into playing.

Great little rules system too, very straight forward and I don't think there were any rules queries that came up (we played Luke with the R2 unit that gives you +1 agility versus Mithel Mauler and Black Squadron Pilot, so nothing too intense rules wise with that set up)

Looking forward to picking up a few more ships and playing some others at the local club.

I beg to remain, Sir, your most humble and obedient servant, A Ridiculous Beard.
Ships also profiled in the Edge of the Empire rulebook would be sensible predictions. They are pretty much all the safe bets people have mentioned so far: Lamda-class shuttle, Skipray Blastboat, the good ol' Z-95, Ghtroc 720 Light Freighter (don't hold your breath), and YT-2400. I'd assume we'll see some Episode 7 stuff at some point, but I'd welcome non-ship-based accessories, scenario packs, and pilot/equipment card packs.

I could also see the addition of things like mines or satellites to a scenario pack -- things that perhaps rotate OR fire on a turn, and have to second-guess future enemy positions, as well as a tabletop strip that could represent the side of a capital ship.

Mucking around with a higher-lethality rules mod, to try to make things happen a little more cinematically. Things in the films tend to explode (the ones not protected by plot armor, at any rate) and the carnage level in the tabletop game left me unsatisfied. Also, with an eye towards future integration with the RPG, I'd like it to move a little faster.

Major changes: "hit" results now mean "destroyed, no matter how high your hull rating is," and deflectors only have a chance to negate a hit instead of a certainty.

Critical damage would work the same as the vanilla rules. Deflectors would use the defense dice, though they would not benefit from the Focus ability. They probably shouldn't be ablative, either--a deflector that stops a hit doesn't lose any rating.

Obviously, these aren't point-balanced in any way, but tournament play isn't really something I think about.

I played in a local tournament again today - fun as hell.

It was a 100 point tournament and I probably had the least variety in ships of anyone there. It was neat to see the more exotic (or gimmicky) lineups. Someone fielded 2 Firesprays, someone else had 2 TIEs, Darth Vader, and a Firespray, and the tournament's runner-up fielded 6(!) TIES of various sorts - 4 vanilla TIES, an Interceptor, and an Advanced. That match would have taken forever if I hadn't gotten all my men killed like an idiot.

With the Rebels, it's tempting to be overly aggressive, banking on your shields seeing you through - only to get swarmed and trade a high value ship for one very, very dead TIE.

Fun times, though, I can't wait to do it again. I was happy to find a Charlotte-area Google+ group. Hell, I was just happy to find someone who uses Google+

EDIT: I forgot the best story of the day - the guy with 2 Firesprays lost his first match because he ran one of his ships off the board, then ran into his own Proximity mine with the other. He wasn't a bad player, he just had one of those days . . .

So how have people been finding the Falcon? I've been thinking about using it as an x-wing rookie replacement but haven't opened it yet so it's still NSIB. I can trade it to someone for the Slave 1 instead if it shows better results, but I'm dubious about that as well.

People are adapting to it. It has so much armor and shields that it can be intimidating to try and take it down, but that's the right call. If you go for the other ships before trying to take down the falcon, that piece of junk will tear down your ships.

Go Han+Gunner and fill the rest with X-wings.

The second "printing" of wave 2 is due for late April/early May, exactly because many stores are sold out of A-Wings/Interceptors. Most of the major online retailers are all out of stock, too.

I'd be thrilled if they added some EU stuff - some of it would actually fit well in the balance. The Tri-fighter/Clutch from the X-Wing novels would fit well in the Imperial lineup - slightly slower TIE with weak shields and an ion cannon would be awesome. :allears:

I would also be happy to see them adapt this into a capital-ship level game. Create cap ship models the same size as the current fighters, then use fighter figurines to represent squadrons. Something like what's being done with Sails of Glory, which shares a common ancestor with X-Wing, but with pew pew lasers.

A cap level game like that or introducing some Chiss ships (TIE Defenders also count) would get so much of my money.

This is loving brilliant. People have been talking about adding capital ships but the major objections have been the inevitable shenanigans that trying to balance them point wise would bring and the fact that since all the ships are to scale even something like a Corellian Corvette would be enormous.

But just making a new scale for capital ships and having the current fighters represent squadrons is an easy, elegant solution that makes absolute sense. How the gently caress did we not think of that before?

The problem with scale capital ships would be that the super star destroyer would still be huge as gently caress and a majority of the alliance ships would still be tiny even compared to a regular star destroyer. You cant even see a corellian corvette next to a SSD. The transport ships are even smaller than that.

Something that big doesn't need to be in the game anyway. There are plenty of reasonably sized ships to choose from. Just make ISDs/Mon Cals the upper limit and Corvettes/Carracks the lower limit. Bam.

Pretty sure this is how Games Workshop handled the ships in BFG, to say that the ships aren't at any particular scale and the model represents a ship the size of a pin head on your table top. It's an abstraction but a happy abstraction :)

The Executor doesn't even really have a canon scale anyway. The "official" sources said it was 8 km long for the longest time, which isn't at all consistent with the size depicted in the films, so the official number started creeping up.

Vlaada is my co-pilot.

Going to capital scale doesn't gain them anything. The stuff that's in a scale where you can still see a fighter (like X-wings) doesn't have that many recognizable ships in it. Once you scale up to star destroyer there's still only a couple recognizable ships at that scale and they don't have nearly the same "gotta have it" factor of an Xwing or Tie Fighter.

This is mutiny!
It'd be a bit more of a niche game, for sure, but there's a dozen capital ships I could name off the top of my head just from the movies/early computer games, without even dipping too heavily into EU stuff. And that would just be Imperial/Rebel/neutral stuff, with more from some of the earlier novels and such. You go deeper into the EU and there's (for better or worse) the Hapans, Yevetha, Yuuzhan Vong, Chiss. List goes on, but there'd be plenty to work with. Personally I love fleet-based games though, so I'm probably not a very good judge of what would be a good business move - I just know I'd be all over it.
