this is prob entry level poo poo so i'm sorry but considering the recent explosion of (perhaps for lack of a better term) psychedelic hip-hop -- beast coast posse love their shrooms and 'cid -- i was wondering what some precursors from the '80s/'90s/2000s to this would be since they must surely exist but i can't think of any? in terms of rapping about psychedelics and whatever and "trippy" beats. maybe tech n9ne; i remember he had some song about tripping on dxm and getting his dick sucked in a bathroom stall or something??

edit: i guess non phixion and gravediggaz would be two more :shobon:

also i stayed up all night listening to the three 6 links y'all posted and i'm a convert now since i didn't know much by them before. thank you hip-hop thread~

This was the first Gibbs track I heard, back around the time mgbfcm came out.

He's remained my favorite current rapper since then. He can do things with his flow that no other rapper right now can do better. National Anthem still blows me away every single time I hear it.

There are probably more Gibbs projects than you have fingers slated for release this year but I wouldn't be surprised if we only wind up seeing one or two of them.

Honestly besides finding out about Danny Brown I haven't bothered to get any new rap this year cause I just listen to all of Gibbs' stuff over and over.

e. I must say though, what the god awful gently caress is with the guy doing the third verse in this song:

I don't know what it's called when rappers repeat the words at the end of some lines, but this guy sounds like he's trying to poo poo out a small car when he does it.

The Underachievers Indigoism is really solid. Also people in this thread were really digging Czarface but I never got around to listening to it so I can't say from experience. Plus 3 new Gucci Tapes. Rap moves fast in the Information Age it's a lot to keep up with.

Goodness no, now that wouldn't do at all!

Just wondering, any of you in Philly? I was checking out Blockhead's blog and he mentioned these dudes:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_4dbX9Bn2vE

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q9EjHdknyt8

Apparently they're from Philly and haven't put any of their stuff online outside of some youtubes but have some CDRs they sell so was wondering if anyone has any more info. Dudes got some skills and while I can somewhat admire folks for staying off the net, I could really them taking off somewhat.

Also someone mentioned Alchemist and Prodigy are supposed to be doing another album? Before he went to jail I would've been excited but dude's been junk for the most part since HNIC 2. Return of the Mac was legit one of the best produced albums of the last 10 years though, and Prodigy hadn't quite went full retard so his mildly rambling flow was just perfect on there. The Boldy album should be nice though (although I'd really like him to work with the Outdoorsmen, first part of Russian Roulette was ridiculous).

And it was a little bit back but nothing more really needs to be said about that Danny Brown track. Dude is making the best rap out now, bar none.

Also more people need to start working with Young L. A Future/Young L collab would be bonkers.

This is the truth. I think in the last 2 or so weeks I've downloaded like 15 or so random mixtapes, and have a backlog of about the same amount I haven't listened to yet.
