You know what's cute? Gorillas. You know what's also cute? Cats. That's Koko, the gorilla who knows about 2000 words in ASL. She likes cats. When she got her first cat, she said, "soft good cat cat". That's roughly what I said when I got my first cat. Smoking Crow has a new favorite as of 01:04 on Mar 23, 2013 |

A kid parallel parks his Power Wheels car. Immediately after doing so in such a cool way, he runs to his parents going "Can I see the video? Can I see?" He knows what he did was great.

What I have to contribute might only be available to UK people. It's a Channel 4 program called Born to be Different. It's a documentary that's been airing for ten years about six different children from their birth. All of them are 11, 12 or 13 now. Zoe has arthrogryposis, severely limiting the movement in her arms and legs. She's had multiple operations to try and give her a decent range of movement. Nathan has Down syndrome. He's moved schools to try and find one that's right for him, as well as having operations on his mouth. William has tuberous sclerosis, leading to autism and violent behaviour. The family are dealing with having to let him go to a residential school because his mother has multiple sclerosis and cannot manage his behaviour 24/7 any more. Emily has spina bifida, meaning she has nerve damage; she was in nappies for many years and now is catheterised and has to flush to defecate. Hamish has achondroplasia, or dwarfism. He's currently swimming at a Paralympic level and hopes to compete at Rio. Shelbie has partial trisomy 9p, a life-limiting condition. Right now she's a baby despite being 13 years old. She was recently on the highest level of life support and no one expected her to pull through. In fact many times since she was born her doctors have not expected her to survive. But she's still here. If you can watch this documentary, whether it's just this recent edition or any of them since the day the six children were born, please do. They are amazing kids now coming to their teenage years. I think the whole series is available on 4OD, or can be found on youtube. I find that Zoe especially is incredibly uplifting, she is such an intelligent and articulate little girl who doesn't even begin to let her disability get her down. Emily is smart and headstrong. Hamish gives no fucks about being smaller than his friends. Nathan is cool as hell and loving being at his school. It's tough watching William's family struggle to cope with his behavioural problems but it looks like he's found a place that fits his needs. Shelbie is clearly loving her life, and her parents love her so much. It's all heartbreaking, but inspiring. The most recent episode, dealing with Zoe, Hamish, William and Shelbie, is here. The rest can be found on that channel under Born to be Different. socilest butthomo posted:This is not a solution for arachnophobes. How do you think people with phobias of dogs get by?

I don't mean "not a solution" as in them being literally incapable of scrolling past the images. I mean you are not proposing a solution for these people, and comparing them to annoyance with other people's children is disingenuous and insensitive. It has already been pointed out that there is a spider thread. Post that poo poo and fawn over it there you loving weirdo perverts.

A solution for these people is to go "ick" and scroll past, rather than asking everyone else to not post cute pictures in the cute pictures thread because of their weird irrational fears. They're cute, they're on topic, and the whole goddamn world doesn't have to bend around your insanity. e: Here's a list of JUST animal phobias from Wikipedia: quote:Agrizoophobia – fear of wild animals Are we going to refrain from posting all of those, or are you going to explain why YOUR phobia is so special that it's the one everyone else should tiptoe around while ignoring the rest? The solution is to post cute, adorable, and/or uplifting things. Like baby wolverines:

Yeah, I have a fear of bees but it's not so bad that a single picture of a bee is enough to make me poo poo my pants and throw my computer out the window. Of course, 90% of the fear comes from hearing them buzzing, so the instant they find a way to embed auto-playing sound effects into gifs my pants, computer, and window are doomed.

While I find jumping spiders to be kinda cute, I certainly realize that some people react quite badly to anything with 8 legs. Fortunately, baby elephants only have four legs!
