to which part? equity crowdfunding is illegal because its a general solicitation for investments. ownership of a private company has to be restricted, and you can only offer stock to accredited investors or to friends and family. public trading requires government oversight and an expensive disclosure process, neither of which are feasible for tiny low-budget projects. the situation probably won't change, either, because in canada securities regulation is handled at the provincial level, so any meaningful change would require the collaboration of 14 independent governments with incompatible goals and mutual contempt. it's ok to sell fake preorders because,... um... gently caress.
