Hey, first-time poster, long-time LP watcher and archive go-er. I really hope this is the right place to ask this kind of thing but if not sorry for the derping around. I'm working on doing a LP of Dead Rising 2: Off The Record. Still working around with the video capture, editing, and audio stuff while working on an actual test post. I just wanted to know, for actually uploading the video, are youtube and blip.tv the only real options? I've seen a few LPs up on bd.baldurk.org, and I was wondering if there was a way to upload it there (I'm guessing I would most likely have to PM or e-mail baldurk about such a thing). I was just wondering since the layout there is a lot less of an eye-sore and easier to go through, and I wasn't sure if it was only a "certain members only" kind of thing. Once again, sorry if this was the wrong place or stupid thing to ask.

Hey, this is kind of different. I'm already a fair ways into my own LP of Project Sylpheed. I basically hammered out my style and finally get AVISynth well enough to start pushing out real scripts instead of relying on MeGUI. All the same, I feel like I've entered too safe of a place with the LP. I'm essentially soliciting criticism from people who couldn't give a poo poo about my videos and the game. A fresh perspective on how I could be doing things might help me with the next project I'm planning, if not this one. Here's the most recent update; I also have the set-up/vital info in the first post here. Thanks.

Yeah, I figured people would spot that pretty quickly. It's only in the intro video, and it has nothing to do with the recording/encoding process, it just looks like that in Dolphin for some reason. That's pretty much the only time in the game with the issue comes up.

Frank West's Casino Vacation [Dead Rising 2: Off The Record] Dead Rising 2: Off The Record is an action/horror game for the PS3, Xbox 360, and PC, made by Capcom Vancouver (formally Blue Castle Games, creators of Dead Rising 2). It's basically a re-telling of the original Dead Rising 2 only if Frank West of the first Dead Rising, was the main protagonist for the series of events that happen in Fortune City, instead of Chuck Greene. Hey, so why this instead of the original Dead Rising 2? Mainly, because I like this one more. Dead Rising 2:OTR added more content to the original game, fixed a few issues, and is generally just more fun. Here's just a short summary of the stuff they added: the Camera system from the first Dead Rising (adding more ways to get PP), a new theme park based area called Uranus Zone, more combo weapons, more missions and bosses (not that many but enough to add a bit of variety), a "slightly" new story, and Sandbox Mode (essentially, free roaming zombie killing with no time limit, and some extra challenges to earn more cash for the main game, as well as unlock a special costume for completing them all). So ya, and I just like Frank West more, not saying that I don't like Chuck Greene. I get why you would want to do this then, so how is this going to work? This is going to be a 100% LP. I'm guessing some of have watched OatmealRaisin's LP of the first Dead Rising, where he went and rescued all of the survivors and did the true ending. I will also be attempting to do this for my playthrough (even though there really isn't a point in rescuing them all in this game) of the game, just to show off some of the ups and downs of the survivors. I'll also be showing off all the unlockable and DLC costumes (except for the Chuck Greene outfit, because my original DR2 game is on a different system), as well as trying to show off all of the combo weapons the game has to offer. The commentary for this LP will just be myself, but if anyone who happens to have any Dead Rising experience and would like to lend a hand (and I can hopefully get the audio working), would be welcome to help out. Also, once we get to Sandbox Mode after the main game is done, I'd like to be able to show the Co-op challenges (and also because I haven't done them myself), so if anyone wants to volunteer for that as well, please send me a PM. Also, please no spoilers until the events or people in question show up in the playthrough. I really enjoy the story and would hope people can experience it as well through this LP. You have to work on your audio a bit. For starters, your video is pretty quiet. I had to turn up my sound by a good notch. A decent way to test volume is to watch a video with high production values, and then watch your own upload. If you have to turn up the volume, you should adjust your own upload. And the major issue, for me, is that your mic picks up breathing and mouth noises. You also munch a lot and I find that to be gross. That alone would keep me from watching. I always comb my audio for such things, and think that most people do. Edit out mouth noises, or reduce their volume if an edit would make a weird gap in the audio. You can reduce them by like -20Db, which will probably make them inaudible but will not leave a gap that the human ear will pick up on. The same goes for breathing, though it's mostly better to reduce it, and only cut it in big gaps. Otherwise your speech will sound unnatural. You have to test this a bit yourself, to find out the right volume amounts.

I desperately despise this game, so take my criticisms with a grain of salt. You need to speak a bit more clearly (I think you're doing post, so maybe run through it a few times to get used to it, maybe you just need some practice). You might want to explain the nuts and bolts of the TIR section more and save the move explanations for another time, but it's short so maybe there is no point in bothering. Seconding the noise reduction and caution over breathing noises; those can be quite annoying, so take the time to avoid them or remove them if at all feasible. Also, a note for the future updates (not really a spoiler): because DR2:OTR has voiced mission briefs instead of the text-only ones from DR2, are you going to just let the clips play and not speak, or are you going to talk over them, or skip them and explain them yourself? I forget if you miss them if you simply ignore the call. In any case, you'll want to plan your commentary around that. Just something to be mindful of. Also: (actually something of a spoiler so I will be very vague and tag it anyway) Is there such a thing as 100% in this game? There wasn't really in DR2; there was "Hero of Fortune City" achievement but that's not quite the same as the 'Saint' achievement in DR1 since it is not nearly as stringent. I didn't play through OTR to completion, so maybe I am wrong, but I remember DR2 (which is just the same drat game they wanted another 40 bucks for, stupid Capcom), there were some notorious survivors who usually wouldn't spawn since the call to get them skipped because there was a 7 suvivor limit and two sets of 3 appeared right near each other so you basically had to kill one of the sets to get them to spawn. A quick look over the DR2 Wiki makes me think that might have been one of the changes. I will differ to your superior knowledge of OTR, but I felt the need to bring that up. In any case, I think with a little technical tune-up, you will be in fine shape.

Tin Tim posted:words Ok, thanks for that. I guess I must have gotten so used to hearing it through my headphones that I thought it sounded normal. I'll take that into account. As for the mouth noises, I'll try and see if I can lower them in the audio, but that might just happen in the videos from time to time, since I have asthma (it's not as bad as it used to be), and I have a stuttering problem, which might be why a bunch of this is happening, since I'm trying my best to keep it clean and not just have a bunch of audio going "F-f-f-f-f-f-rank West", but ya, I'll try and reduce it. Magnetic North posted:more words I really didn't see a point to explaining that much about the actual mechanics of the game during the arena, because as you said, it is pretty short. I also have another video's worth of tutorial left until the main game really starts, and then once it actually does, at the beginning of that video I was going to explain the UI, map, and some of the other things in the game. Also for actual video layout, I was going to go basically: Tutorial Tutorial Main Game And then have an intermission sort-of episode exploring around an area, and showing off some of the stuff in it, with the first being Royal Flush Plaza. Then, more main game videos, and just have more intermissions between a few episodes just to show everything off, since some of it won't be seen in the main playthrough in detail. Also for audience participation, I was gonna do votes for what costumes or combo weapons people would want to see, with pictures, of course. Would this be a good idea? And for your other part, no, there really isn't a 100% thing for this game. I'm just going to try my best to show everything off, so trying my best to get all the survivors was going to be one of those things. And yes, I'll probably turn off my voice for the VA quest pop-ups. And finally, once the audio is changed, should I post it up again here, or just go ahead and make a thread? Update: I'm having an ok time getting rid of the larger breathing areas of my audio, but if its stuck in the middle of a bunch speech, there's not much I can do about it without it just sounding weird, and it's just going to keep on sounding like that because that's just how my audio sounds because of the asthma SonicDragon fucked around with this message at 22:11 on Mar 21, 2013 |

Having GIFs to help show some of the animation off helps things, but the intro to a point and click game isn't exactly exciting material. Well, from quick and dirtily popping the game in for a few seconds, the majority of the game runs at 640x480. The opening cutscene, battles, and certain cinematic non-cutscene bits have black bars. I imagine just keeping 640x480 screenshots and cutting off the black bars where necessary will suffice. I wanted to see what the world map renders at but it appears my save files are gone. poo poo. Also, this saves me time in the future, because at this rate joining SA has done more to make me want to play games instead of LP them (even though that's why I started hanging out around here in the first place, to do ToD and something else).

Adventures In Schizophrenia: Let's Play Tales of Destiny What is Tales of Destiny? Tales of Destiny is the second game in the Tales series and the first Tales game to be brought over to America. It was released stateside in 1997 and is the best selling Tales game of all time. It sports a direct sequel in Tales of Destiny 2, a PlayStation 2 remake, and a directors cut of said remake. None of those has ever made it stateside. Don't be fooled by the stateside game Tales of Destiny II. That's Tales of Eternia who's name was changed for some legal reason or another. Wasn't there an LP of this already? Kind of. Divided by Zero started an LP but sadly it got abandoned. I remember following the thread but it was a long time ago and I don't have Archives so I don't know how far he got. So what's the deal with this game? Plot wise we're not gonna be breaking any new ground. Worlds in danger, drama ensues, our hero's save it, the end. Battles is where the game really shines. Straying away from your typical "stand in a row, select attack"; the battles happen in real time on a 2D scrolling field with your party of four. Each character gets some pretty flashy special moves, most get some impressive magic spells to help kill your enemies. The enemies get their own flashy moves and spells to help kill your party. I'm going to try to show off all of those And hey, it's got talking swords! If that doesn't excite the nerdy 12 year old in you then I don't know what to say. What's the story? I'd like to get into that as the game does however here's a little quip about the story stolen from wikipedia. quote:In the past, a comet crashed into the world, throwing dust clouds into the sky and shrouding the world in cold and darkness. At about the same time, the inhabitants, the Aethers, discovered a new form of energy from the meteorite's core, which they named Lens. Combining this with further research, the people were able to create cities in the sky and live in them. Unfortunately, only a select few were chosen, leaving the rest of the people to remain on the bleak surface of the planet. These people became known as the Erthers. Sounds pretty bad rear end huh? Yeah well that happened thousands of years ago and we won't get to fight an awesome war like that. How is this gonna work? This is going to be a screenshot LP and I'll try to show off as much as I can. I was never one of the kind of people that needs to 100% a game or find every little secret so most of those were unknown to me until I recently replayed it to get reacquainted with the game so I could LP it. So while this isn't a blind run, a lot of the smaller details aren't rote memory like the rest of the game. Luckily I knocked all those out with my replay so we should be good. I'll be underlining characters names when they speak and my own comments will be in plain Italics Are you going to do the Tower of Druaga? drat right I am. Audience Participation This is a pretty straightforward JRPG so there's not much of a chance for that. I will however let the thread: *Name the characters. There's a seven character limit for names. *Once I get more than four party members, I'll let the thread decide my party. I'll ask this at regularish intervals. More than likely right before a major dungeon. *Much later on when it's time to recruit the optional characters, I'll let you guys decide who to recruit. Spoiler policy Yeah this game is like 16 years old and the plot isn't exactly full of thrilling twists but try to keep all spoilers in spoiler tags. As long as their tagged, talk spoilers all you want. Cast Characters Stahn Aileron Stahn is a simple country bumpkin running away from his responsibilities. You can tell he's from the country because he's sporting a rocking mullet. He's kind hearted and overall tries to do the right thing but he's not quite obnoxious about it. He's the second best fighter and overall decent spell caster. Your average well rounded hero. Swordians Dymlos Dymlos is pretty blunt and to the point. He's calculating, smart, and rarely has time for Stahn's country bumpkin bullshit. He's never shy about giving Stahn a piece of his mind. His attribute is fire. You gotta hand it to the game for not making the fire dude hot headed and easily excitable. Updates Update 1: Ride The Gravitron fucked around with this message at 06:15 on Mar 24, 2013 |

Those screens in the Tales of Destiny test are pretty awful, though. Fuzzy as heck, and since they weren't optimized before being made into .pngs, they are bloated in size. What's your method of screen capture? Let's see if we can't get them looking nicer.

There are, and there aren't. The only proper portraits for the main cast of Destiny are in, uh, the PS2 remake which isn't available in English. They also aren't easy to find online from my looking a while back, and cropping them out of PS2 screenshots isn't that easy in this case (or at least I don't think so) either because they're giant cards as opposed to the small squares other games in the series use, which has a size issue with regards to the actual characters face. The closest you can get for the PS1 stuff is the status screen portraits which are easy enough to get if that's all you're interested it though this doesn't include a few actually important characters for obvious reasons. As for screenshot stuff, I just gave it another check because Destiny uses varying screen resolutions and sizes depending on where you are. Most of it isn't 640x480: But there's a few spots that are, because that's not confusing at all:

Haha, oh PSX, you so crazy with your resolutions. But yeah, Dragonatrix's examples are what I was looking for, Volume. Pixels sharp enough to cut yourself on, and since sprite games have such low color counts a lossless format like .png actually turns out to be lower in size than others.

Volume posted:Adventures In Schizophrenia: Let's Play Tales of Destiny I tend to prefer LP's which stick with the default names, but that's mostly because people who've played the game before use the default names when talking about characters which can get confusing when they're known by a different name in the LP. Since you've got a cast of characters in the OP where you can include the default names as well as the thread-names, that's probably not an issue. When it comes time to ask the thread to name them though, you could at least say what their default name is. I agree that you should try and find portraits at least for the party member characters, and that the images could definitely look better. If nothing else, you could use their overworld sprites to make portraits. That status screen picture of Stahn would work. Aileron is an actual word - it's a flap on an aircraft wing.
