Endgame dungeons are hard as balls, but also a lot of fun.

When me and my levelling partner went in to two-man Necromancer's Tomb at Level 48 I think, we did so because we felt the same sort of thing.
It was our first dungeon and we didn't want to turn up to a group looking like idiots.

Now, I don't know if Necromancer's Tomb is overly different to other dungeons, but it's effectively like questing in an enclosed space. Only with the fun of facing some tougher enemies in the form of bosses. In the end, the only boss we didn't manage to bring down was the last one, but since it isn't part of a quest we decided not to soak time into retries.

There are official dungeon guides here to give you a crash-course with each dungeon: http://tera.enmasse.com/game-guide/dungeons/#dungeonguides

Dungeons are one of my favourite things about the game, but like everything with TERA they seem to have put their worst foot forward. The first one is a bunch of brown caves with some cultists in and you have to wonder what they were thinking. Then you hit Sinistral Manor and it's a hundred times cooler and poo poo starts ramping up. Like most games they're basically rooms connected by corridors with mobs in them, but the presentation and atmosphere rule and they give you some massive bosses to slaughter. At 50+ you're fighting through giant cathedrels in the sky and a weird twilight garden with a final boss designed to push your poo poo all the way into the ground. And of course the loot looks fantastic. Sinistrel Manor in particular has a fantastic leather set that is a swag-as-gently caress red-and-gold ensemble you should absolutely run the dungeon over and over for.

Special shoutout to Killian's Underground Clown-Crew Hangout. gently caress you Killian.

edit; also if you make it to level 58 you get to finish levelling in Veritas District which is just gorgeous, even compared to most other TERA zones.

VVV Yeah exactly. You spend what, seven or so levels fighting Argons in various shades of blue and brown, with a depressing-as-hell main storyline too about corruption and death. Then you go to Veritas for your last sprint to 60 and it's just this incredibly verdant and vivid zone, and you're escorting an Elven princess around activating old shrines and other classic fantasy stuff, and in the distance there's giant god-sized weapons piercing the ground. It reminded me of the switch from the standard sand/snow zones to the crazy neon midnight rainbow of the Elin capital city.

Try tanking a few dungeons. It can be a nice change of pace from leveling, and most of the groups I've been in were fairly forgiving of new tanks. Better to learn on the easier stuff than to go in at 60 and have no idea what you're doing.

I'll give that a go, I'll go back to early dungeons and learn to tank for new groups - though I much prefer DPS where all I really have to worry about is hitting the monsters a lot and not getting hit myself, rather than maintaining aggro.

My Lancer buddy and I hit up Golden Labyrinth for the first time last night. The trash in that place is a pretty big step up in terms of murdering non-tanks. Is the majority of the trash meant to run after random people to bodyslam them? As far as I could tell they were picking random targets to run off and bellyflop before returning to the tank, but it was frustrating the lancer to no end because it was our first time in there and he was freaking out about how impossible it was to control anything that was going on.

We've been playing an outrageous amount of the game this week and just hit 50. Dungeons have all been pretty straightforward so far, with them all dribbling in new mechanics to deal with. I'm absolutely terrified of hitting the first dungeon that puts it all together!

On another note - don't be afraid of actually doing dungeons levelling up. If you have dealt with any BAMs at all during the levelling process youll be perfectly familiar with most of the low level dungeon bosses - most of them are just BAMs you will encounter in the wild with maybe one additional gimmick where you kill an extra mob that spawns or something. This changes a little bit at 40+, but I haven't noticed more than one mechanic per boss to learn and they give you plenty of warning.

Glyph for increased threat on Torrent, halved casting time on Battle Cry, and +Endurance in Defense stance and you should be fine(grab a few +Threat gems off of a specialty vendor, just in case. Probably won't need 'em, but you never know.). Try to block, rather than dodging stuff; you generally want to keep bosses fairly still, though some of them will be jumping all over the place regardless of your efforts. Also, you're better off learning on a dungeon you don't outlevel by too much; I don't recall much of that level range, but if you ask around someone will fill you in on what's easy and what isn't.

Yes, a lot of the trash mobs in GL have random aggro. Tell your lancer not to feel so bad, as there's not really an easy way to keep aggro on them.

Quick archer question too - what's the deal with the two +Power stances? Is the idea to use the -movespeed one when there's not much happening and swap to the -aspeed one when it's time to run around? I feel like I need to run around basically the whole time right now so I've pretty much just been sitting with -aspeed and blowing stuff up with Radiant and Penetrating Arrow while maintaining poison stacks. I'd love to know if I'm doing it wrong before I get this too ingrained.

Well, the movespeed penalty is always going to let you do maximum DPS but it's a large defensive liability in PVP or in boss fights with a lot of deadly area AOE.

Healing in there is really fun too lol... I would specifically do nothing for about a minute just to make sure I wasn't pulling any extra aggro, and I'd still have mobs randomly switch and start chasing me around. Also I think it was the 2nd or 3rd boss in there my group was buffing up by campfire and tank pulled with no one noticing. Boss did some ranged aoe move and one shot myself and 2 sorcs that didn't realize we had even pulled yet. Fun times.

In any case, what followed was some random Lev36 Male Human Paladin walking up to me, telling me I was sexy and that we should go "somewhere private" for "cyber".

After explaining that I was in fact, a dude, he flustered, nervously replied that he was "joking" and mounted away from Tarren Mill as fast as his standard ground mount could carry him.

I don't go to Tarren Mill any more.

There's account upgrades you can purchase through the Valkyon Outfitters cashshop, under the Account Services tab. Extra character slots are about 5 bucks and are permanent, but you buy them per server. There's also extra bank tabs you can purchase (up to a total of four) for five dollars, or a full set for like 12 or 13. I dunno if people are selling those upgrades on the trade broker or not, but that might be an option too. Unfortunately the monthly sub doesn't get you more character slots or space like that, but it has some nice advantages like the extra dailies, bonus xp/gold boosts, and village atlas.

If you don't feel like paying extra, my suggestion would be to just make multiple free accounts. You could even use the second character slot to make a fake guild. Then add in an alt from extra accounts you make. It's an extra step for shared storage but you'll have access to four slots through the guild bank, although there is a weekly 3 gold fee to keep the bank operational.

I was playing around with solo PvP and it was working out much better for me than BG - and now I know why. Every loving stun the sorc has breaks on damage. All the melee stuns don't. So if I get hit I can just get up and go refill my drink, since I have no control of my character until after the world returns from black & white. If I stun someone, I have to hope and pray that no idiot teammate blows a spitball at them and lets them out of my AoE nuke before it goes off.

Really REALLY terrible balance choice. I mean, I get how it's "supposed" to work - stun, celerity, overchannel fireblast. It just doesn't actually work that way in BG, and it makes playing a sorc in BG an incredibly frustrating experience, since you have no control over your idiot teammates loving up every single goddamned nuke you attempt.

So yeah, CC is worthless in PUG battlegrounds, as nobody understands how it's supposed to work. The only thing I can usefully do is follow around a lancer nuking every time he leashes.

I hate to say it but you're kinda doing it wrong. (Well the lancer thing is good but still.)

Sure, your CC might not be as useful, but you're forgetting that you have lancers, warriors, and slayers on YOUR OWN team. You need to be watching out for them to stun people because that's a prime time for you to attack. If you see one of your lancers AOE leash, you need to have your fireblast right on top of those people ASAP. In the end, BGs are a team experience and yes I KNOW people can be dumb as poo poo in them, but it just means it's on you to look for the openings and help your team make the most of them. That's what makes a good sorc in BGs and that's why you see so many of them topping the scoreboard.

Couple other things:
- Don't be afraid to throw out void pulses. You'd be surprised how hard it is to see it in the middle of a big fight and people will get hit by it all the time.
- Keep a stun trap on you as often as you can if there are warriors/slayers around. This will discourage their backstabs. If all else fails, drop a hailstorm and stand in it.
- Painful trap knocks down in PvP. This is REALLY useful for stopping people on you or for stopping a group that's assist training on someone else. It casts pretty quickly even without celerity.
- Backstep and Teleport Jaunt both have invulnerability frames. Abuse the poo poo out of them, you'll be surprised at what you can dodge with it. Backstep into Glacial Retreat can get you out of bad stuff pretty quickly.
- Don't be afraid to still throw out your CC. You can stop people momentarily so that your team can catch up if they're chasing, and Mindblast casts crazy fast with celerity + the ice needle glyph. A lot of times people will be focused on someone else in the fray and you'll help take their friends out of the fight for a few seconds.

I guess what I'm saying is I've played BGs quite a bit and it's not that frustrating for me from a gameplay perspective (more from a THIS MATCHMAKING IS poo poo perspective :v:), but it's definitely a different playstyle from open world PvP that you have to adjust to.

good advice

I absolutely agree - it's just, if we don't have a good lancer on my team, I might as well just sit in spawn with a drinking bird tapping my spacebar to jump periodically. As a sorc, I depend 100% on specific team classes to both be competent AND well equipped, and that's around 1% of the time in BGs. Sure, I can stop someone we're chasing - for someone to hit them with a fast low-damage attack and off they go again, and I can't stop them for another 45 seconds of cooldown. I can't count how many times a lancer has leashed 5 reds OUT of my fireblast circle just before it goes off. So not only do I not hit them, but I've got limited number of much lower-damage skills to hit them with in their new stun. How hard is it to yank people INTO friendly hailstorms instead of OUT of them?

I'd absolutely believe sorcs are top ranked in BG. I generally end up in the top 5 no matter how badly our team loses - doesn't make me feel useful, just an artifact of the way the scoring system rewards AoE 'assists' and huge-damage nukes. That's what's so incredibly frustrating, being continually paired up with worthless teams.

I'll try the knockdown trap more though, that sounds especially useful anywhere there's 10v10 piling up since there's too much going on for people to see every spell effect on the ground.

Yeah, the matchmaking is hosed and sometimes there are stacked games you just won't be able to win. I don't think there's much you can do about it until EME or Bluehole decide to make some changes, so you kind of have to make the best of what you got. Just remember, it's not just lancers who have nice stuns. Slayers, zerkers, and warriors (they have an AOE stun, even) all have ways to get people to sit the gently caress down for a few seconds, which is a great time for you to drop a Fireblast or Void Pulse on their heads. Get used to reading when that happens and being quick with your skills and you'll be surprised the sort of fights you can help turn around. Some people are just bad so you have to work with THEM rather than them working with you.

One other thing, learn the times that the BAMs spawn and ALWAYS BE THERE. Sorcs are the best way to secure a BAM kill and you'll be surprised at the steals you can pull off if you do it right. Both BAMs are pretty important to winning the game and can seriously help your team come back if they're behind. Here's the approximate timers for those who aren't familiar:

Teralith (South):
4:55
~11:55 (depends on when first Teralith died)

Naga (North):
6:55
~15:55 (same consideration as Teralith)

In the rare cases it goes any longer than that I think you'll see the third Tera around ~18:55.
