I'm only (unfortunately) three episodes in at this point, and there have been a few lines that had me busting up laughing. Aceveda's line in Ep. 3 was gold. Early impressions: all of the main characters are interesting, and have me engaged. Notably, I love the chemistry between Dutch and Claudette, and Danni and Julien.

Especially in 2002 when homosexuality was a little less accepted than it is now, and especially in the world of law enforcement. In retrospect, I felt really bad for Julien when he had the "B&B" performed on him. At first I thought he was just a straight-edge man of God, but the fact that he is gay makes it even worse. He probably felt violated and dirty for going through that. I almost feel like Dani already knows he is gay, and that's part of the reason why she looked so upset during the bar scene. But maybe I'm overthinking it. I can foresee Julien's character development being an interesting ride.

Just realized I managed to say gently caress four times in that rant. That spoiler is for S1E8-- It isn't plot related per se, but the moment will have more impact if you don't know. So beware Watching that episode with the meth lab guys/meth lab explosion. After the car chase where they open the trunk and see the burn victim...then his eyes

Man, I forgot how hard this show is to watch. Not because its not well written, maybe its just too well written. Seriously depressing poo poo. But then sometimes its hilarious. Lem and Shane arguing about collecting what amounts to a bounty. The guy theyre dealing with says "When you two are done figuring out who is wearing the pants, beep me. Oh yeah, your cock is out. They both look down to their crotch as their chicken is waddling out the door Watching the last couple of episodes of S1. Just finished season 3 and I've seen Ep1 of season 4. I hear a lot of good things about Anthony Anderson's performance in this show, so I can't wait to see how that goes. I do find some of the writing a bit hamfisted at times though. The most recent example I can think of was when Dutch had a GREAT scene with the cuddler rapist about how it feels to kill something, then he went home and killed a cat. I thought that was completely unnecessary... not because he killed a cat, but because we already saw that Dutch was completely engrossed and intrigued by the rapist's description of how it feels. It was pretty obvious that it's something Dutch is fascinated with (the mind of a killer), so having him kill the cat just seemed a bit much. There are other examples too, but I can't remember the specifics other than rolling my eyes at something Claudette said or did.

I think the only two characters in this show that are remotely likable are Lem and Ronnie, to me anyways. I pretty much literally can't stand anybody else. Tayvon seems like a nice guy though too i guess. Edit: Ooooh, forgot Natalie Zea was in this show for 5 episodes. drat! S1E9 spoilers: Vic and the boys robbing the police van! That was incredible. They just keep upping the ante. And yeah, I like Lem too. He seems like a decent guy especially after this episode, at least when you compare him to Vic and Shane. I haven't really gotten around to liking Ronnie though. But I think Claudette and Dutch are likeable characters, in my opinion. The fact that they appear to be very competent detectives certainly helps their case. At least to this point in the series (ep. 9). Well, one more episode for me tonight. I plan on finishing the first season this weekend. Pretty much all of my down time (which isn't much) has been dedicated to this show. It's awesome. I don't understand why I didn't watch this sooner.

Yeah, it's fun posting in this thread and seeing the reactions. I'm aware that this is just the tip of the iceberg at this point. S1E10 I got a huge grin on my face when Dutch finally broke his serial killer. Especially with the audience he had during the interrogation. Even if the killer got to him, it was still an awesome moment.

You will love Ronnie in time, but probably not until he grows the full beard. He is a bit in the background in season 1 because the character wasn't actually supposed to be a big part of the show.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ I dont think she meant anything else behind it. They were married awhile and she's used to having him be somebody that she can share that sort of thing with. I think she was just opening up. E: For my own contributions, just watched the episode where Vic comes to the realization that both of his children are autistic. He really is a great actor. Also, the Korean dude just blasted two kids

I'd say my favourite actual moment of this show was the montage at the end of season 2 when Dutch shows up at the money train deal, just puts his hands on his hips, and has his usual Dutchsmirk on him, and the music is playing. It just really, really fits.

The hard-rear end police captain has been done to death in film and television, but Benito Martinez does it drat well. I could have sworn I had seen him in a significant role in something else, but I looked up his IMDB and the only roles I may have seen him in are bit parts in 24, Firefly (as shown above), and The X-Files. The acting, overall, on this show is top notch. Now, I'm going to finish season one. MrBling posted:You will love Ronnie in time, but probably not until he grows the full beard. Good to know. All space shows look alike I was referring to the photo that Ratatozsk posted. I didn't really make that clear. edit: I finished the first season last night. That was one of the most intense 45 minutes of television I have ever seen. In terms of creating suspense, I can only compare it to Breaking Bad. That says a lot coming from me, because Breaking Bad is my favorite series ever, by far. Overall, I loved it. I have few complaints. The middle bulk of the season felt a bit aimless and like a case-of-the-week series, but there wasn't an episode I didn't like. Even if it seemed like that kind of show at times, what sets it apart is the excellent writing, brilliant acting, and the characters. I can't think of a recurring character that I don't really care about at this point. If anything, Vic's family life is the least interesting part of the show. But even that part of the show is interesting. For a cheating, murdering, thieving rear end in a top hat, he does display some love and care for his family. I actually felt for the guy when he was breaking down and clutching his chest at the end of the season. It adds a layer to his character, and brings him down to a human level. And it all wrapped up, and ramped up very nicely at the end. Exploder fucked around with this message at 05:37 on Mar 30, 2013 |

Welp I've just finished watching the first season of The Shield and what a finale. Gilroy was a huge scumbag; but with a show full of scumbags the writers did such a good job at turning the narrative on its head which I thought would be impossible after the first episode. Glad to see Aceveda choose Vic over Gilroy and seemingly gets what he wants in exposing police corruption. Gilroy's ominous words that Vic will become just as scummy as him may hold true and to be honest, I sort of wish he does so I can go back to rooting for his downfall. Dutch's "Oh you've got to be shitin me!" still cracks me up.
