That's because I set my sliders to "art."

The way you lined up the breaking wave on the left with the mountain is wonderful.

What version of Lightroom has the "Art" slider? Mine doesn't have it.

It's not a "bad" picture. The clouds and sunset are great, and there's some promise in making a subject out of the snowmobile tracks.

It just lacks a real subject or any lines that draw the eye. Like.. if you had managed to catch a snowmobile tracking across the image, it might have made the shot a lot more impressive. And except for the glaring sun, the image has very flat tones.

Try not to take this poorly, because Lord knows I'm no Ansel Adams, but it just looks really fake. It's very obvious and inconsistent where you layer masked -- especially on the left and right sides of the trees, and there's so much about it that jumps out as impossible to me. I feel like it would look more natural and actually pretty awesome if the treeline was at the same exposure as the sky, and the foreground was just slightly brightened.

With that said, let me remind everyone that your Greenhouse picture is really awesome.

Thanks, you're totally right about the tracks-as-subject. Sadly there weren't any 'bilers out that day.

edit: And I really was trying to save a shot with contrast++ that I wasn't feeling on its own merits, but I didn't want to admit it to myself at time-of-posting. Thanks for the critique!

I love the use of the foreground rocks. This is something I always try, and end up thinking I've used too much or too little of the frame for the foreground. I think you got it just right.
