We usually use Netflix to mow through TV shows, but after that I love the weird, lesser-known horror movies. Absentia wasn't what I thought it would be, but it was better, and disturbing in a way that stuck with you. I definitely recommend Absentia. Really well acted! I'm also a sucker for the found footage stuff, so I liked Grave Encounters. But watch Absentia first.

I watched "Another Earth" on Netflix tonight, really enjoyed it. A bit of an emotional wringer but some beautiful shots, really understated and a fantastically rewarding ending (I thought). Sadly it doesn't seem to be on Netflix US right now, I watched it on Canada. But keep an eye out for it.

Tim Whatley posted:Dexter's Laboratory New or old? EEnE is the only CN cartoon that managed to stay good toward the later seasons. Later Dexter and Johnny Bravo are especially terrible and I fully expect Netflix to only have those. Throwing up a huge recommendation for The Venture Bros, if you've never given it a shot. Fell apart toward the fourth season, but the first three are some of the best examples of plot-driven cartoons.

Yeah the website says Space Ghost Coast to Coast is unavailable. Seems like it's only the first seasons of the Adult Swim shows I added as well (Aqua Teen Hunger Force, The Venture Bros., and Metalocalypse). Oh well, better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick.

That's a bummer about it only being the first season of stuff. A lot of these shows are things I've watched but not in the last couple years and was hoping to get caught up on. Is there somewhere where I can get a complete list of what's been added?

Metropilitan This movie is pretty goddamn charming. It is about a young group of friends comprised of early 90s debutantes and bourgeois New Yorkers. It is clear that the film is a bit critical of these kind of people. It's also pretty hilarious.

Pontypool really gets good after the first 15 minutes or so. I've only watched the first episode of Venture Bros. and wasn't particularly enjoying it. Does it pick up a bit after a few watches or is it a Marmite kinda thing?

Holy Doughnuts! posted:Pontypool really gets good after the first 15 minutes or so. Yes it gets way better. I remember not too long ago getting some people to finally watch it and then felt really awkward as we watched the first episode because it's just not that great. I can't remember how long exactly it takes to get its stride but it definitely does. Especially if you watched a lot of old Johnny Quest type cartoons.

grapey posted:Absentia What the gently caress even was this. I started off feeling like, alright, this is a really lovely horror movie but it would have made a really thoughtful drama since it's pretty well-acted. Then the last third of it happened. This would have been a much, much better movie if they would have just dropped the horror pretenses entirely, and if it would have turned out Callie was just a crazy drugged-out loser because dealing with loss, etc. There was potential for it to have that intention, but the bug thing at the end got an "oh, gently caress you" out of me. Also, I swear to god, I will poo poo if I hear that annoying rear end synth line one more time. Calling Absentia a horror movie reminds me of how Pop Skull was called one, minus the art aspect for it to fall back on. But I'm also the one idiot who thinks Pop Skull is a great movie. Holy Doughnuts! posted:Pontypool really gets good after the first 15 minutes or so. Man, I can't be the only person who loved The Venture Bros right from the get-go. We watched House Hunting this weekend, and both my girlfriend and I were really impressed. The acting isn't the greatest, but it's shot well and the story is pretty unnerving. It's a good haunted house psychological thriller, definitely worth checking out.
