Well how many are going to bring up Thatcher sending the SAS to train the Khmer Rouge, 6 years after the regime was exposed as batshit and genocidal?

Both Thatcher and the US (Carter?) armed the Khmer Rouge after Vietnam kicked them out because we were butthurt over the Vietnam War.

Links, please, and the Independent story that is the only sole source of an allegation that the US armed or funded the Khmer Rouge which relies on a single unsubstantiated statement by one man doesn't count. I'm very, very familiar with this territory you're treading on and I'm guessing you're not. It's entirely plausible that the US funded the KR, but if it happened, it didn't happen how you think it happened, I bet.

I noticed like most Western-obsessed people you left out China in your list, the primary benefactor from before Pol Pot took power until after the Vietnamese freed Cambodia.

Well China was the primary supporter of the Khmer Rouge while the Russians were the primary supporters of Vietnam. During those brief wars in 78 and 79 what people like to call "realpolitik" took over so the US and it's buddies supported the genocidal fucks hiding in Thailand from giving them training to supporting their seat at the UN for 10 loving years.

So am I, and there is a wealth of information on the net from many many sources that will corroborate our support for the "anti Vietnam" coalition forces that were a majority Khmer Rouge. Western support for the PDK is well documented and began while it was under leadership of Pol Pot and continued into the 90s.

You hear this said a lot, but when you ask people, "Interesting, tell me more," what you'll find is a paper trail stretching back to one article written by, I think, Pilger, that sources one unnamed quote. As difficult as it may be to believe, the US didn't want to get into bed with the KR even to spite the Vietnamese. It was the Chinese funneling money and guns through the Thai refugee camps as they were the country actively at war with Vietnam at the time. America sure as Hell didn't stop it and probably enjoyed it, but there's no evidence that I'm aware of that America was part of it.

Great, links? Your claim, you back it up with sourced links. In other words, pics or it didn't happen. You're not that well versed, I can tell, because I know the story from source to how it spread and it just ain't true. More importantly, though, you said America/US. I want links about American/US support.

This is one of those ugly things about being a rational human being. Sometimes it turns out that your biases don't match reality even when they make sense. Just because the US was horrendous in Indochina - and it was - doesn't mean every bad thing that happened here was done with US assistance or direction. Often times we were bumbling idiots as surprised as anyone. This is one of those dichotomies you have to grow up and accept - we were too stupid to understand it was a civil war and we were too stupid to back savvy players like Sihanouk. We didn't suddenly become subterfuge geniuses on covert warfare when it came time to support the KR as they fought a losing resistance in Battambang & Pailin. The best estimates for any US involvement were us funding aid camps with some tacit understanding that the food and money might end up elsewhere. Everything else is, "I met a man in a bar in ..." and that talk is very cheap here in Southeast Asia.

Now that I have a relatively long commute in the 8-9am timeslot, I'm really starting to appreciate how Mike Gallagher is striving to be the worst person on the planet. This morning there was a solid half hour talking about how Treyvon Martin was a drug abusing tattooed thug with gold teeth. This was followed by anecdotes about two rude black women he ran into the other day and lots of moaning about how you can't talk about how the majority of crime is committed by 'the blacks'. Also somehow that new black panther polling place thing came up. It was like the 'what's the deal with black people??' power hour. Oh, and don't think today was unique. Today only hit about the mean level of vitriol.

He's kind of like Levin but with even less filter on what topics are appropriate and he plays it completely straight and doesnt sound like master shake, so it isn't as easy to laugh off.

And in case you aren't familiar, we aren't talking about some local am loser. He's nationally syndicated.

That sounded so good, I had to look it up.

Pallo Jordan, who remembers the days when Thatcher insisted that the ANC was a terrorist organisation, "I say good riddance. She was a staunch supporter of the apartheid regime. She was part of the rightwing alliance with Ronald Reagan that led to a lot of avoidable deaths. In the end I sat with her in her office with Nelson Mandela in 1991. She knew she had no choice. Although she called us a terrorist organisation, she had to shake hands with a terrorist and sit down with a terrorist. So who won?"
