Well how many are going to bring up Thatcher sending the SAS to train the Khmer Rouge, 6 years after the regime was exposed as batshit and genocidal?

Links, please, and the Independent story that is the only sole source of an allegation that the US armed or funded the Khmer Rouge which relies on a single unsubstantiated statement by one man doesn't count. I'm very, very familiar with this territory you're treading on and I'm guessing you're not. It's entirely plausible that the US funded the KR, but if it happened, it didn't happen how you think it happened, I bet. I noticed like most Western-obsessed people you left out China in your list, the primary benefactor from before Pol Pot took power until after the Vietnamese freed Cambodia.

So am I, and there is a wealth of information on the net from many many sources that will corroborate our support for the "anti Vietnam" coalition forces that were a majority Khmer Rouge. Western support for the PDK is well documented and began while it was under leadership of Pol Pot and continued into the 90s.

Sometimes it turns out that your biases don't match reality even when they make sense. Just because the US was horrendous in Indochina - and it was - doesn't mean every bad thing that happened here was done with US assistance or direction. Often times we were bumbling idiots as surprised as anyone. This is one of those dichotomies you have to grow up and accept - we were too stupid to understand it was a civil war and we were too stupid to back savvy players like Sihanouk. We didn't suddenly become subterfuge geniuses on covert warfare when it came time to support the KR as they fought a losing resistance in Battambang & Pailin. The best estimates for any US involvement were us funding aid camps with some tacit understanding that the food and money might end up elsewhere. Everything else is, "I met a man in a bar in ..." and that talk is very cheap here in Southeast Asia.

Now that I have a relatively long commute in the 8-9am timeslot, I'm really starting to appreciate how Mike Gallagher is striving to be the worst person on the planet. This morning there was a solid half hour talking about how Treyvon Martin was a drug abusing tattooed thug with gold teeth. This was followed by anecdotes about two rude black women he ran into the other day and lots of moaning about how you can't talk about how the majority of crime is committed by 'the blacks'. Also somehow that new black panther polling place thing came up. It was like the 'what's the deal with black people??' power hour. Oh, and don't think today was unique. Today only hit about the mean level of vitriol. He's kind of like Levin but with even less filter on what topics are appropriate and he plays it completely straight and doesnt sound like master shake, so it isn't as easy to laugh off. And in case you aren't familiar, we aren't talking about some local am loser. He's nationally syndicated.
