So many Rathalos Rubies. Not even going for them, I'm just getting the drat things. It's like Halloween here, I'm getting so much candy off him. Azure Rath armor almost finished. Just need the arm armor. And because I love wondering about stuff like this - the arm armor requires three Azure Rath tails. What could the wyverian blacksmith possibly need three for? He's clearly crafting the armbands themselves out of the tails. That doesn't explain what the third is for! What are you doing with the crap I'm bringing you, ya old codger? Only 1 tail away from the full set. Then I'll get the Earplugs gems I need and move towards finally getting Nargacuga on farm. That'll gimme a fairly nice defensive spread going into G-Rank. Still only about halfway through Tanzia HR, but it doesn't hurt to be over-prepared. Need to see what weapons and charms I have. Get as many slots on my gear as possible. Been in Wroggi Cowgirl gear for so long, it'll be nice to change it up. Even if that means letting go of Negate Hunger.

As a newbie to the series, I was curious and decided to look at the roster for Tri and compared it to 3U... Tri is practically nothing compared to 3U. If people can put 100+ hours into tri, I think I'll be playing 3U for the rest of my life...

Does Negate Hunger also stop cold weather effects? Or does that reduce your stamina on a separate timer instead of just speeding up hunger?

Awaken is only G Rank? So why are there weapons all the way down to Rarity 1 with elements that need awakening? On one hand the armor skill system is neat but on the other it feels too specialised for a game with twelve different weapon sets. The optimum set for a boss is likely to be a clown suit and you must need to farm a lot of charms.

Carecat posted:Awaken is only G Rank? So why are there weapons all the way down to Rarity 1 with elements that need awakening? That just means there is a higher ceiling of optimization. You can go into a g-rank mission naked and win as long as you know the monster and do enough damage, but with armor combos and skills and such it gives the game a lot more longevity to get the "best set ever" for whatever you are wanting to do. It may take a lot of grinding and luck to get there, but then again you don't NEED to go for the best set. It's an option for people if they want to go for it, and for some people is a big part of their enjoyment of the game. Hell, even figuring out WHICH pieces of armor and decorations give you exactly what you need is fun for me. I know that back in MHFU I had a ton of fun finally finishing my Evasion, Constitution, and a couple other skills Lance set, and spent a lot of time at that point dodging straight through Agnaktor lasers and tail swipes and stuff feeling all EDIT: Maybe it was Gravios instead of Agnaktor, but whichever. I miss the old monsters.

I have so many weapons and armor sets left that I want to craft, and I'm slowly working up the longsword chains while introducing my brother to Monster Hunter and helping him out, and there's all these quests I still need to do, it's crazy. It's good to be back.

Like many others this is my first Monster Hunter game. I'm having a great time with both Offline and Online modes, but there's one thing that's just not "clicking" for me. Underwater combat is a nightmare for me. I've carted 7-8 times in total in my 20ish hours of gameplay and every one was on Lagi or Gobul in the water. My biggest problems are (1) controlling where my dodge takes me; and (2) what you might describe as depth perception. I generally have no clue how close or far away I am from a monster. I'm either whiffing or standing on their head. This problem probably also accounts for my ill placed dodges. I've tried to use the lock on camera to orient myself and, while it does help some, I'm still struggling to get at a decent range in the water. For what it may be worth, I typically roll with Hammer, Lance, or Switch Axe. I've never had a problem with depth perception like this ever. Not in a game nor in my everyday life. Is this just something that everyone experiences in this series and has to just learn to deal with, or am I missing something integral? On a happier note, this morning I finished my Lagi set and had enough goodies left over to make a new Axe and Lance.

I dislike underwater fighting for much of the same reasons, and I've played every Stateside Monster Hunter release ever since the first game. MHP3rd was great in that it let me fight the new monsters and use the more polished abilities and such but not have to do the drat underwater bullshit. Funny thing is, I have very poor depth perception in real life but I only have a problem in the game when fighting underwater. I have become used to it for the most part though, it just takes some experience. Lagi is the big problem here, he is always a lot bigger than I give him credit for, and that throws off my attacks.

Diablos is absolutely disgusting without a heavy shield, but I feel like such a wuss hiding behind a G+2 gunlance for half an hour to beat him. All his charges seem to require a dive to avoid, plus he has lovely gen-1 hitboxes on half of his attacks.

Is there a huge difference in Razor Sharp and Sharp + 1? Will Sharp + 1 always give more sharpness than Razor Sharp? When I made the Wroggi set, I thought I was getting Sharp + 1, but it turns out to be Razor Sharp, which supposedly doubles your sharpness for each color.

When I made the Wroggi set, I thought I was getting Sharp + 1, but it turns out to be Razor Sharp, which supposedly doubles your sharpness for each color. Razor sharp and sharpness are pretty different when it comes to using them. Razor sharp is nice, it makes some weapons a lot more usable but all it does is halve sharpness loss and make it so you sharpen less. Sharpness+1 is widely considered to be the best blademaster skill. It gives weapons more sharpness on the end their sharpness bar. Each weapon gets a different boost from it. Some get huge boosts, like the greatsword Blade of Tartarus, which goes from a little green sharpness to a usable purple sharpness. That's a 40% damage increase. Its sharpness looks like this: The top bar is normal, the bottom is with sharpness+1. Others, like nargacuga weapons, already max out at purple and get nothing. The narga greatsword's sharpness is: No difference, no benefit from +1, but you could still use razor sharp and lose sharpness at half speed. edit: added some examples rhoga fucked around with this message at 23:05 on Apr 8, 2013 |

He will just flail around with just his head/back/wings sticking out of the ground. Once you exhaust him he will stay like that for even longer and if you manage to knock him out he will just lay there for an ungodly amount of time. So having finally broken into HR, I am a bit hesitant to proceed... I am fairly good at fighting monsters up to and including Barroth (oh and Rathian), but not so good after that. In fact I only fought Gigginox, Uragaan, Nibelsnarf, and Rathalos a single time each, and didn't fight Diablos or Agnaktor at all. Should I practice and learn them more on LR so I'm somewhat more prepared, or just keep going with HR and learn them new since they are somewhat different in HR? Or will that bite me in the rear end when I miss obvious tells and take huge amounts of HR damage?
