It's killing me because I know I've read that and it's probably in my Batman collection, I'm 90% sure it's from Detective Comics which narrows it down only slightly. Sorry.

Do you remember WHY Batman decided to change back to Bruce Wayne before going to Gordon? It seems like extra effort for something that actively harms him.

Another 1? Aww man...
I figured it was a combination of a double bluff to keep Gordon from guessing he's really Bruce Wayne ("Why would the World's Greatest Detective show up out of costume? He must just be in disguise as Bruce Wayne!"), and that Bats likes to just dick Gordon around.

Fake edit: Really the weirdest thing about that page is that you can see Jim Gordon's upper lip.

I'm assuming someone has proof that Batman is Bruce Wayne so he's trying to pull a bluff by pretending that he just pretends to be Bruce Wayne sometimes.

The artwork looks kind of like late 60's early 80's so I can try and do some digging but I can't guarantee anything.

It's Pavlovian. See Bat Signal -> Change costume -> Go see Gordon

But this time he was already in the batsuit so he changed into his 3-piece. Dude doesn't even think about it any more. Batsignal->Change clothes

Thats what it seems like. I remember a more recent story where he was on an internet forum typing a detailed argument on why he can only be Bruce Wayne while Nightwing typed out counter-arguements in the same forum.

The source was easy - Batman #303 - but the synopsis reads like a loving Newspaper Spider-Man plot arc :psyduck:

quote:

Synopsis for "Batman's Great Identity Switch"
Batman is struck on the head by a rock while fighting the Dodo Man, a crook with a psychotic urge to steal anything related to dodos, in the Museum of Natural History. The blow reverses his identity-switching impulse, so that he battles criminals as Bruce Wayne and appears in civilian life as Batman. He cannot understand the commotion he raises by doing so. Alfred consults his doctor and learns that the cure may be placing Batman back where he was hit by the rock. Thus, he places a bat-transmitter bug in the Natural History Museum under a stuffed dodo's wing. When Bruce Wayne tracks it down, his reversed-identity impulse is corrected and he dons his Batman uniform. As Batman, he intercepts the Dodo Man trying to steal the stuffed dodo, and captures him.

There is some very sensual touching going on in the cutscene there. i don't actually think it means anything sexual but it's cool how it contrasts with modern ideas of what bad ass stuff should be like. It even seems authentic to some kind of chivalric masculine touching from a tyme longe gone
