Desirability IS affected by low unemployment, having the same culture as the migrating POP, having at least wealth voting (even more for weight universal and universal), being in North America/South America/Oceania, and for each political and social reform selected.

I think I found a bug: The "Tractors" modifier does not reduce RGO size. Not sure if "Commercial Retailers" should, but it doesn't, either. "Mechanized Mining" I think should increase RGO size, but that doesn't happen either. Unless these were all deliberately removed for some reason.

I believe all effects that reduce RGO size were removed. All the techs in the power line used to reduce RGO size, but they don't anymore.

Let me regale you with the tale of how glorious Mongolia became the richest, most prestigious country in the world. A superpower capable of taking on the three most powerful great powers in the world. Picture the scene: World war one has just broken out over the claims of Great Britain and the Empire of Russia over a particularly nice sand dune in the Sahara desert. The forces of the UK, the Ottoman empire and Prussia, aided by their various vassals and dominions face off against every other European power and their spheres in the largest, most bloodiest war in history. After several years of fighting, the British alliance has all but won the war. Vienna and the Austrian heartlands are occupied, the forces of Russia are broken and France has lost all of its holdings outside of Europe. The Ottomans are rampaging across the map while the UK brings the world to its knees with a European blockade. Suddenly comes a knocking at the door of the throne room the Ottoman Sultan. Repo men barge in and confiscate his throne, his harem and all the finery in the palace, citing the immense debts of the empire.the Sultan demands that his guards execute the traitors taking his throne, but his guards have dissipated into the ether along with 3/4 of the Ottoman Army. The Sultan is confused; The Ottoman empire had been economically stable for the entire war. He goes to his treasury and cries in anguish. It is completely empty save for three gold coins sparkling by the torchlight, and a small paper note on the floor. the Sultan picks it up and furrows his brow as he reads it. "I O U 100,000 pounds sterling as part of the terms of surrender of the alliance of the UK, Ottoman Empire, Prussia and all of their allies in the Great War." The Sultan, confused, asks his foreign advisers what the gently caress is going on. The Empire is still at war with every enemy. Russia, France, Spain and Austria. Why in the name of Allah are they paying thousands daily in war indemnities? Then the Sultan remembers something. A horrible, ominous thought crosses his mind. The Empire is still at war with all of the same European great powers. It was even at war with the same World Wide great powers. But there was one country that the Empire was no longer at war with.... Furious, the Sultan dispatches an emissary to the Prime Minister of the UK asking for confirmation on his worst fears. Could the United Kingdom have really done this? Single handedly lost World War One by bringing England and her allies into crippling debt and automatically disbanding their armies, whilst remaining at war with all of Europe? Could they really have surrendered under the terms of a Great War Capitulation to... Mongolia??? Meanwhile, the King of Mongolia relaxes in his new Solid Gold palace. Mongolia was now the richest, most prestigious country on Earth. In the past few days he had received praise from the UK, USA, Russia and every other great power worldwide about the prestige of the Kingdom of Mongolia and how no other country would ever match its importance. In between sips of the finest wine from France and some excellent Cuban-American cigars he patted himself on the back for sending Mongolia's 2 regiments of irregulars across allied Russia and reinforcing a fight between Russia and the UK with 10:1 superiority in numbers. He also reminded himself how nice it was that Britain's ambassadors has the IQ of a yak and offered him the full surrender of the British, Ottoman, German alliance so that Mongolia's 2 regiments would exit the war.

I played around with HoD a bit more. Colonization is really cool! It's also really . Sorry Greenlandbros, it was nothing personal.... I just really wanted to lower the population enough to move some French Canadians there and get a majority. All of Greenland, save for Godthab, have been reduced to no people (it reports 1 person but when you look at the pop charts, all of them are empty), and Godthab has 2.5k people, mostly Danes with 10% Innuit and 15% French Canadian. I did it by constantly getting that event where you can lower the population by 5, raise con and lose mil, or lower it by 25 and lose one mil and picking the second option, plus some smallpox. At least I managed to turn Jylland into a multicultural socialist state? After initially conquering it and making it a slave state, of course (reactionaries took over early game so I had some fun ). Also the new colonizing is fun. I managed to grab up much of Africa by tying up France and Spain on costal regions as I pressed deeper into Africa, and then cutting them loose and letting them have their one costal province while I had already encircled much of western Africa. So I'm getting a persistent crash to desktop after installing HoD at the "Creating Rivers" screen. I've deleted my map cache folder and the crash persists. I've uninstalled and reinstalled and same issue (including deleting the map/cache folder). I don't know where to pull an error message from that would illuminate the issue. My error log has lots of issues with provinces and three missing flags but I don't understand what I'm doing wrong. Can someone spoon feed me here? I've not had a problem like this before.

Check your game directory as well as the documents/map/cache folder, sometimes both caches exist which make the game crash. I wish that Paradox would add what Firaxis did and let you hold down shift or something when it's booting to clear the cache automatically before it generates a new one.

This Japanese AAR linked earlier in the thread has been a god send. The OP explains just about everything in the game and most of it is still relevant for the latest expansion. Had a fun time westernizing around 1856 or so and then dogpiled because I had 34 infamy from conquering. Whoops. Was pretty easy to westernize. Get the reforms where you get more research points from conquering then go island hopping.

I picked up HoD, having only played 2 or 3 long games of Vicky II before. And by 1853, my Japan has taken Korea and is totally westernized! I guess other people have done this with Japan too? It seems like things are a lot easier this way, I basically have a country that's as powerful as Sweden and could probably make it into the top 4 GPs by the end of the game. I guess that's not all that ahistorical, as Japan was doing pretty ok for itself by the end of the Vicky timeframe.

It doesn't show if you zoom up a bit and the icons are tiny, so it takes a lot of squinting Edit: Woops, BAD typo. canepazzo fucked around with this message at 10:14 on Apr 18, 2013 |
