Overbite posted:Is there a place on this magical internet that will explain the demon fusing in Soul Hackers to me in simple words I can understand? Gamefaqs has nothing. I have a zoma but I don't know what it does, and I heard there's some other special demon that uses 3DS coins but I don't have it yet. The Zoma is basically Megaten's first experiment with skill inheritance. You can fuse it, over and over, and transfer the spells of the other demon over to it. Physical skills too, but I confess I have no idea how inheritance of those works. Keep fusing your Zoma with higher level demons and it's own level and stats will increase (or decrease, depending on the level and stats of the other demon). Build it however you like because if you screw up you can turn it back into the doll by fusing on a new moon and start over with new demons and skillsets. Loyalty has two major advantages: demons will stop doing their own thing and ignoring your commands (shown by red text messages during combat). Also, certain personalities at max loyalty can be converted into useful items or equipment. Everything but Sly can be maxed out on loyalty pretty quickly if you know what to do. The special demon basically just has it's own little option in your menu; you can generate points for it via streetpass (or convert play coins into points, which is probably what most people do), and use those points to either buy demons from it, or trade them in to level the special demon up which unlocks more demon options for you to buy.

Overbite posted:And is gaining loyalty really that necessary when they don't level up so you eventually stop using it or fuse it with something else? In addition to what's been mentioned, maxing out a demon's loyalty may offer bonuses, based on their type. Wild demons will have a minor increase in their damage output, Kind demons will take a mortal blow for your hero (although to do this they can't be in the attack's area of effect). At the Goumaden you can use the Mystic Change option to turn Dumb and Sly demons into items: Dumb demons have a 1 in 32 chance of becoming a Dream Ticket, which can be exchanged at the Bank for big bucks (six digits son), while Sly demons can become useful items and equipment (each specific Sly demon has their own item). On top of that, loyalty is passed on during fusion, so if you fuse two demons with maximum loyalty, the resulting demon will also have maximum loyalty.

On the subject of the Zoma, I am at level 30 and I just got to the automotive plant. Assuming that I have not gotten around to fusing a Zoma yet, should I go ahead and get on that, or can I wait until later?

Build it however you like because if you screw up you can turn it back into the doll by fusing on a new moon and start over with new demons and skillsets. Actually skill inheritance has been around since at least SMT2. It's just that it was extremely strict in most games to the point it wasn't worrying about. Like in SMT2, not only was what spells a demon could inherit restricted by its type, but one of its components had to have the exact same type too. Soul Hackers is the same for regular demons, except it's not quite as strict in that it doesn't care what type the components are. Also there are more types, some of which are more flexible. Like there's an "Ice" type that only can inherit ice skills, but also a "Temperature" type that can inherit Ice OR Fire. Physical Skills for the Zoma in Soul Hackers depends on its type. There are four different Zoma types, and the very first demon you fuse into it determines which it will be. After that it's pretty simple--if a physical skill a demon you fuse into your Zoma is one it can get, it'll get it, otherwise it won't. (Each type has a list of physical skills that take precedence over others, but I think that's only in the case that multiple component demons have transferable skills) MechaX posted:On the subject of the Zoma, I am at level 30 and I just got to the automotive plant. Assuming that I have not gotten around to fusing a Zoma yet, should I go ahead and get on that, or can I wait until later? You can wait as long as you want pretty much, as you can get it up to speed pretty quickly by fusing high-level stuff into it. My last play through SH I didn't use it at all until I could get the "special" races you can only get using your Zoma. Genpei Turtle fucked around with this message at 03:16 on Apr 21, 2013 |

Haven't tried the slots yet, but I just finished some vs. Poker and it went pretty well. No house advantage. The bet increases each round, but you keep your winnings each time. And of course you can save right outside with the "save anywhere" app.

So getting any of the special equipment is trivial and the swords can probably be done in about an hour. ImpAtom fucked around with this message at 04:12 on Apr 21, 2013 |

Free tip for anyone going through Soul Hackers who have yet to go through The Amami Mall and more specifically The Warehouse behind the Mall: Bring equipment which nulls death and expel for your MC. I'm pretty certain I am just getting extremely unlucky but I have gotten tagged 4 times with instant death moves in this area from a few different demons and have to load old saves, being stupid and not having null-death armour on-hand. I'm bulling through it with save-anywhere software but it's a tremendous pain you should probably take steps to avoid if you can.

I seem to have abysmal luck at vs poker above the 2500 coin entry level, but at least I am sitting on just under 20K coins now. This is pretty fun. I probably will just get the main character his sword and move on though. Nemissa has magic, he just hits things.

I'm fairly early in the game, just beat the refrigerated warehouse and started to go into the planetarium and have gotten the MC one-shot by the first group I ran into twice. Is this just bad luck, or does the game expect me to be grinding elsewhere? Any demons I should be looking to fuse early on?

I haven't had a problem with instadeath in Soul Hackers yet, and I run a team of only the MC + Nemissa. It's worked for all the bosses so far because Nemissa is just so stupidly broken. What I have had a problem with however, is the game crashing.

There's so many interesting seeming programs and so little space, especially since 'save anywhere' takes two and the item drop rate increase is pretty much mandatory. Do you ever get more than five slots?

So I just managed to pick up both Devil Survivors for about 30 bucks for the DS. I have played Nocture (and beat it with the True Demon ending), Persona 3+4, and Digital Devil Saga. What should I keep in mind while playing through them? Please no spoilers.

Frankly every single demon you employ should have them by the end of the game. -The two races to keep an eye on are Megami and Tyrant demons. Megami because they are great healers, and Tyrants are just great in general. Obviously however you will have to be flexible, as some missions will likely require different races to finish. -You do not have to do anything to unlock Yuzu's route, which means you can completely ignore all of her events. And on that note, it might be a good idea to do her route first since it's easier than the others and that way you can start a NG+ run which will make your life easier. Doing so will also unlock one of the best Tyrants.

For DS1 make sure you have some of the demons that let you sprint for a turn and also the demons that let you swap with another unit on the map. These two make all escort/rescue missions much easier. I forget which they are but someone probably knows. vvv yeah get those, they own bones in DS1; merely useful in DS2 Rascyc fucked around with this message at 20:21 on Apr 21, 2013 |

Both Devil Survivor games are very good at reacting to your screwups, and having characters die is not the end of the story. While it is possible to get through both games without any deaths, the game throws enough playable characters at you that this won't be a problem.

Overbite posted:This casino sucks, I can't win a single game of Vs. Poker I literally won 50k coins without losing against a single opponent. If you don't have anything, hold your one best card, then swap the rest. Go for flushes when you have 4 of the same suit. But I honestly wouldn't spend time in the casino because the weapon you get from it trivializes a lot of the game, which I'm already finding incredibly easy. I don't want to really gimp myself for the sake of challenge, but Soul Hackers seems really, really easy for an SMT (offshoot) game. Anyone else feeling the same, or have I not hit some massive difficulty spike (just beat the art museum, for reference). It is also weird to have play an SMT game where I really do not care about the demons. I think at best I keep one as an additional front row attacker, but that is pretty much it.

I'm about three dungeons after you, GrandpaPants, and my entire strategy is literally MC in the front row guarding while Nemissa blows things up in the back row. It works on scrubs, it works on bosses. It also helps that Nemissa has maxed out magic, I guess. If I would put any demons in the party, it would be the various demons like urban terror that reflect a whole bunch of attacks and are also immune to death. Not that the game needs to be any easier, but can you farm the pet shop rewards? I'd like to get more demons that are 20 levels above me because they fit the request for another pet shop request that gave another demon 20 levels above me.

In the SS/PS version, farming Scathach/Lugh from the Pet Shop was the easiest way to start fusing high level Light demons.

I didn't quite understand how easy until I started being conservative with demons fielded and stopped being conservative with Nemissa's magic, but even before then there weren't any major speedbumps. I pretty much only keep demons around for auto-winning conversations with the same type, boss fights, and maybe one or two for making random encounters considerably faster.

So, I had an option to turn one of my demons into an item--[spoiler]Jack Frost into a pair of Candy Boots[/b]. This item says it guarantees that children will talk to me, which I figured means that child-like demon personalities would get boosts. But now I've run into some, and they ask me to give them the item! It cost me a demon, so I'm a little hesitant...am I supposed to give the item away?
