Good Citizen posted:I think my favorite thing about Hannity is when he switches into 'list scary sounding things mode'. There's no subtlety to it at all and it's pretty hilarious. It's like some kind of video game-style rage meter builds up in his head and when it maxes out he suddenly drops every power move at once. Just this random stream of 'fort hood, bill ayers, Benghazi, obamacare, fast and furious, jeremiah wright, socialism'. No explanation or attempt to tie them together. Just a huge mass of right wing trigger words. His really cynical advertisements for stuff he obviously doesn't care about is what annoys me. I mean, yeah, Limbaugh does it too but not nearly as ham-fisted.

Dr Christmas posted:Hitler used a government program to do a thing. Democrats also used a government program to do a thing. The Holocaust was implemented by the German government, while public schools and Medicare were implemented by the American government. Therefore, those things are the same. That's actually how deep they think about it. Actual adults who live on this planet use that logic, and other adults look to those people to inform them. Don't forget the Nazis enforced gun control laws! Granted, they generally loosened the laws made by the Wiemar Republic and only really confiscated guns from Jews and undesirables, but why let facts get in the way of a good ol' Reductio ad Hitlerum fallacy?

Since we've veered into NAZI talk, what was the NAZI media footprint like? How did they use radio to spread the message or motivate followers? Was Mein Kampf a big deal or not?

(I hate you for getting me to type this) Also Redeye, though it probably doesn't have nearly as much influence as the other guys talked about in here, is something I find incredibly loathsome. Wave a wand, say "Reducto Hitlerium!", and poof, your enemy turns into a tiny little Hitler Then you store him in a mason jar with a leaf and a perforated lid on top, and he gives rousing speeches in an extremely high and fast voice.

Mark Ames pointed out yesterday the same thing about the Tsarnaev mother. Both her sons are now dead and also among the most infamous criminals in American history. So, of course, she's looking for people to blame. You kind of just want to hug the woman and say how sorry you are, because I don't know how you stand in her face and say, "You've been hijacked and these people are rooting for you to be crazy. That's the only reason they care what you have to say." Yeah every time I hear about their mom the only thing I can think about is that it feels really exploitative to put her on camera when not only has she lost her sons but they are probably the most hated people in America right now. Regardless of what they did they were her kids and she's not going to be making the most rational statements right after.

You know it's not against the rules or anything to feel for someone in a personal way and disagree with their opinions, vehemently even. I'm sure if I sat down with any given free republic member or Glenn Beck fan I could find plenty of things we could personally connect on or that I could identify with...while still thinking they are off their loving rockers politically. If they were able to do the same thing we'd get along great. I'm sure there's also a lot of people who have let their politics inform their personality to a degree I wouldn't enjoy being around them and wouldn't be able to talk to them, but it's not a pre-requisite or a litmus test for whether I give them a chance. The inability to divorce the two even a little is one of the reasons our government is so messed up.

Like, I couldn't care less what crazy poo poo a parent who just had their child violently killed and turned into a political tool, or who heard their children caused so much pain and destruction before being killed and arrested has to say because there's no way anyone's in a good state of mind during that.

All the same, I really don't see how someone popping in and spouting some provably wrong racist bullshit and not responding to the thorough and complete takedowns of his idiotic posts is somehow good discussion. I don't want a freeper posting everywhere just to have a class clown alternate viewpoint. This isn't fox news. I realize that this discussion is probably a bad idea for us all to be taking part in but seriously, it's been going on for many months and it drives me nuts to repeatedly see threads derailed by his retarded posts. He never responds to 99% of the posts proving him wrong, either, and when he does it's just another doozy of a troll. It's pretty loving annoying, and even putting him on ignore would not prevent the flurry of angry posts that follow everything he says(which is always wrong).
