Quick question about Soul Hackers that I didn't see in the OP. What should I be investing in in level-ups? I don't want to gimp myself, but I'm thinking of going physical because late-game pierce is usally never a bad idea in these games.

The MC can't use magic and Nemissa learns spells, so pump STR for the MC and MAG for Nemissa.

Int also may or may not be useful for demon negotiations. Has anyone confirmed whether or not it has a profound effect on how well negotiations go? Ag is always a good stat to pump points into as well.

If not, I'm pretty sure INT increases your magic defense, so it's a good idea to keep up with that anyway.

I had int at 5 for most of the game all the way up to level 80 and I never noticed any significant problems recruiting things. If anything has an effect on negotiations it's probably your level, but even then I wouldn't be surprised if the system is entirely independent of stats. For the MC I went Str > Vit > Ag and basically ignored everything else for most of the game. Near the very end I pumped 10 points into mag because his best armor requires 10 mag minimum to equip (although you may be better served just leaving mag at 1 and using the casino gear, I dunno).

I have a plot question about the Infidelity Sap thing in SMT2: So when Puck uses the love powder on Hiroko, it's considered bad, but when Anoon does it to Daleth it's A-OK? Isn't it basically brainwashing?

The same thing happens in Strange Journey, actually. Jimenez bitches out Zelenin for using mind-control singing to pacify Jack's Squad. He sees no problem with demons possessing the ship's crew in Chaos route, if I recall.

You actually would be. The Hare of Inaba's mystic change item makes a better helmet (as does the Casino helm) and the World Armor/Judge Fist both offer considerably higher evasion while only sacrificing a few points of defense. When you wear all of the Masakado armor at the same time it does grant him +6 to all stats though, but it makes you weak to a lot of elements that will straight up get you killed in the postgame boss fights.

I guess this whether or not it can be considered canon is up for debate since that's where it comes from though... The love powder's effect is only temporary. After a while it wears off. There's a (kind of dumb) short story in Steven's Report about what happens much later--the powder's effect has worn off but Daleth is still lovey-dovey with Anoon. Like he felt that way about her the whole time and the powder just exacerbated the effect or something. 01011001 posted:Yep. I was pretty underwhelmed with that given that I did Law first. Maybe I'm missing something in Soul Hackers, but do your demons really not gain levels OR pass on skills from fusion? I'm confused on how I should go about with juggling demons in my party since every other SMT it's basically just recruit demon, level them up until they learn all their skills, then pass them on to something better. It's not like the game's especially hard, but my OCD's killing me here since I have no idea how to proceed with my party formation.

It's just that it's fairly restrictive and you generally won't be able to engineer demons the way you're used to.

Pretty much. If one is mind control, so is the other. I could just as easily say: "Oh, Zelenin just enhanced the parts of the brain that foster social bond formation, thus making everyone fanatically inclined towards group cohesion."

Taking the cue from the thread of raising the Hero's strength/defense stats while raising the girl's magic/intelligence stats. Only thing I need to figure out for future reference is getting the loyalty up. I'm sure the veterans in this thread answered you already but loyalty is simple once you get a hang of it; also random NPCs in dungeons "ask you for advice" w/r/t loyalty which can fill you in as well. Ugh I can't shut up about this game. And SMT4 comes out this summer which will probably be just as soon as I finish up Soul Hackers. 3DS is the system to get for Megaten games!

I heard there were multiple endings in Soul Hackers. I'm at the part where it appears that Spooky betrays everyone. This of course, leads to a choice of whether to stay or leave. Does this affect the plot? Are there any good, bad, or canon endings I need to worry about here? Do I get different move-sets like with the Hitomi choice at the Beginning of the game?

I assume that the weapons with red text in Soul Hackers are all cursed or something. What exactly does that do, other than giving the vaguest descriptions ever? I haven't really noticed anything wrong with using a Tyrfing, for instance.

I'm not sure about tyrfing but the other ones have put me to sleep when I hit someone and another just plain refuses to attack sometimes.

That decision in particular is critical. In the PSX version, though, it only made a difference on a New Game+. First time through, tough nuts for you, you're getting the bad ending no matter what you choose. I don't know if that's the case for the 3DS version though. I think some of the New Game + stuff was brought into the first playthrough, since I recall hearing that you can't really talk to Mary on your first playthrough in the PSX or Saturn version. I can access her Miscellaneous option and conversations actually change and go places. So, is the "right" choice in the part I'm at to stay?
