There's a really neat fake 3D type effect with those if I put my red/blue lenses on. Obviously it's not 3D but the color filtering makes it shimmer in a weird way.

These apartments have been completely abandoned for years, development FINALLY started on them, but it's 30+ acres of abandoned apartments right now. I'll do more exploring soon (i gotta get the ok from the security guards that roam around) but here's some from the outside.

Yesterday there was an amazing sunset (the fires in the mountains set it up) but I didn't make it in time, I was hoping to catch it today but got clouds and gloom instead. Boo. Oh well.

If you're trying to make me feel uncomfortable with that first one, mission accomplished.

It looks crooked and that huge blank wall only adds to it, like the image is totally lopsided to the right. The way the wall cuts off the scenery only adds to the effect.

I am soooo new to this type of photography (I usually shoot sports) and suck pretty badly at it, but I have to start somewhere, right?

I'm in the exact opposite situation as you.

Your exposures are good and the pics look nice, but (imho) they're a bit uninspiring. I'd like to see a closer crop of the Sydney Opera House and the horizon leveled, for example. I still struggle with getting exposures right, so you're one step ahead of me.

Cheers. I'm reasonably good at exposing myself... err...

Anyway - this one was about to bite the cutting-room floor, so to speak. Is this what you meant by a closer crop of the OH?

It was a tiny bit underexposed out of the camera, I just lifted it a bit in LR. I think it looks a bit fuzzy, but that could just be my eyes.

The fuzziness might be noise? The tighter crop is better but I think more sky and less water would have been a better choice, there just isn't much going on in the water. And those lights on the far right are competing for attention so maybe darken them down a bit.

I like the idea of first photo, the black and white Opera House one. The Opera House is just getting a little lost against the sky.

Thanks! I can see a few things to try that might end up with a better result on my next attempt. :)

I like the cloud formation and colouring in the first one. The second one is dark, brooding, menacing - it looks great!

These two are pretty badass as a pair.. it's nearly an identical composition, but one feels about 30 years older than the other. It's kind of fun to flip back and forth and look at the differences.
