These apartments have been completely abandoned for years, development FINALLY started on them, but it's 30+ acres of abandoned apartments right now. I'll do more exploring soon (i gotta get the ok from the security guards that roam around) but here's some from the outside. penmar_apartments3 by francography, on Flickr penmar_apartments2 by francography, on Flickr penmar_apartments1 by francography, on Flickr somnambulist fucked around with this message at 08:27 on May 4, 2013 |

Yesterday there was an amazing sunset (the fires in the mountains set it up) but I didn't make it in time, I was hoping to catch it today but got clouds and gloom instead. Boo. Oh well. Santa Monica Beach by francography, on Flickr

If you're trying to make me feel uncomfortable with that first one, mission accomplished. It looks crooked and that huge blank wall only adds to it, like the image is totally lopsided to the right. The way the wall cuts off the scenery only adds to the effect.

I toddled into the City at Stupid O'Clock this morning and tried my hand at some pre-dawn & just-getting-light stuff. These are the 'best' three out of a fairly mediocre batch. Photo One - Hickson Road Sydney with Opera House - Eric Berry by efcso1, on Flickr Photo Two - Sydney Harbour and Opera House at Sunrise by efcso1, on Flickr Photo Three - Sydney Harbour Bridge - Eric Berry by efcso1, on Flickr I am soooo new to this type of photography (I usually shoot sports) and suck pretty badly at it, but I have to start somewhere, right? Guys?

ek posted:I am soooo new to this type of photography (I usually shoot sports) and suck pretty badly at it, but I have to start somewhere, right? I'm in the exact opposite situation as you. Your exposures are good and the pics look nice, but (imho) they're a bit uninspiring. I'd like to see a closer crop of the Sydney Opera House and the horizon leveled, for example. I still struggle with getting exposures right, so you're one step ahead of me.

ZippySLC posted:I'm in the exact opposite situation as you. Cheers. I'm reasonably good at exposing myself... err... Anyway - this one was about to bite the cutting-room floor, so to speak. Is this what you meant by a closer crop of the OH? 20130508-IMG_5062-2 by efcso1, on Flickr It was a tiny bit underexposed out of the camera, I just lifted it a bit in LR. I think it looks a bit fuzzy, but that could just be my eyes.

ek posted:Cheers. I'm reasonably good at exposing myself... err... The fuzziness might be noise? The tighter crop is better but I think more sky and less water would have been a better choice, there just isn't much going on in the water. And those lights on the far right are competing for attention so maybe darken them down a bit. I like the idea of first photo, the black and white Opera House one. The Opera House is just getting a little lost against the sky. A couple from me
