The heart is commonly associated with emotions and desires. Although it is not scientifically accurate as all thought and emotion actually comes from the brain and the heart is just a muscle for pumping blood, it is a common way of conceptualising the apparent dichotomy between rational thought and irrational feeling. The image is encouraging people to "follow their hearts" (which means to do as you feel you should or would like to) and not to over-think and come up with reasons or excuses for not doing it. It does this by use of a metaphor, presented visually as a path from the heart to a balloon (representing an aspiration) cutting through the brain. It is in no way intended to encourage the actual splitting of brains, nor to suggest that balloons are powered by human blood. It's just supposed to be encouraging.

I can't find the source of it (perhaps the poster realized how silly it was and pulled it?) but someone on my friendlist took a far more literal approach to the whole heart/brain thing while simultaneously being a lot harder to believe about it: A crazy facebook statement posted:"After conception the heart is the first brain that develops, and after some time the other brain begins to form. As we grow this other brain continues to mature. The heart brain though is smarter as it has the ability to collapse time, even inter-generational time. The heart is smart. It knows what your ancestors knew." What leads to that? So the general idea is that the heart is an even better brain -than the brain-. Local news station facebook pages are usually a goldmine of idiot rantings. This guy posted similar images roughly three times a day on EVERY news stations' page in the weeks coming up to the election. He also posted tons of photoshops of infants wearing beanies and getting stoned. This guy has been at it more and more posting pictures of "orbs." There's also never a shortage of people wanting to bring chemtrails to the media's attention.

Here's the article she linked to. I would understand my friend posting this if the article actually mentioned anything about her body or made any kind of negative remark, but it literally said nothing of importance other than Alanis Morissette went to the beach with her family, wore a mix and match bikini, and looks nice without makeup. I'd totally get it if the article said anything objectifying or malicious, but it was just a bland, standard celebrity watch blurb. There are so many other blatant examples of sexist media to be angry about, why go out of one's way to get upset about something so innocuous? Edit: Didn't see the video on that same page. I'm the idiot. Pineapple Salad has a new favorite as of 11:04 on May 7, 2013 |

Saying her bikini is "mismatched" implies that she's an idiot with no fashion sense, whereas in reality it doesn't loving matter. Calling out a stupid article meant to shame a woman for any reason is pretty cool if you ask me. I can understand the confusion of why your friend mentioned body shape, however. It's still completely stupid any one would be stalking her, taking pictures, and posting them online to make fun of her for any reason.

The girl who posted it is generally a pretty cool person, and posts great stuff for the most part. Sometimes she literally looks for things to get upset about, though, which I had assumed was the case here since she had posted 3 or 4 articles about Christina Hendricks immediately before this one. I did see the video and now I get what she was commenting on, and yeah, it is pretty lovely.

My favourite face book things are where it builds that anticipation like... "YOU GOTTA HEAR WHAT THIS PERSON SAID ABOUT WELFARE, IT'S ABOUT TIME.....THIS IS REALLY HILARIOUS AND TRUE!!!....YOU GOTTA HAND IT TO HIM..............FINALLY SOMEONE WHO SPEAKS THEIR MIND!!! And then post a huge, fake anecdote from Jackie Chan about how much he thinks Blacks shouldn't be allowed on welfare or something. Someone posted a Robin Williams one a few pages back.
