Got bored of my Ranger (and a bit sick of BBI apparently turning my pawn Rose into a drooling moron again and again, she was fine in the main game!) so I started a new game on my other PSN id, based on the PC from my favourite play-through of Baldur's Gate.

Pictured: Orlan the Ginger Half-Orc and faithful Imoen. She's a ranger with Challenger/Scather, which seems to get her to use her bow a lot. Is there an agreed 'best' inclination for rangers?

Man, this game really brings out the indecisiveness in me. I simply can't set my mind on what Vocation I should focus on and instead end up trying everything. I really hope that Bitterblack Isle doesn't require a min-maxed Arisen since my stats are starting to look like a bloody patchwork by now due to my extensive dipping into both melee and magic vocations.

Had a good day in Bitterblack. Got to Warrior's Respite and took the Moonbeam Gem there to a Duskmoon Tower door to get the Dragon's Ire shortbow(fire enchanted) which was a huge upgrade over the one I had. Also got the Immortal Helm from a quest, that thing is pretty sweet. Now I just need to get the rest of the set...

EDIT: Crap, according to the wiki the helm is the only piece of the Immortal set that can be worn by Assassins. Can anyone who has the set confirm or deny this?

Nah, min-maxing isn't necessary. It can be beneficial, but you don't need to min-max to get through it all. That's not to say it won't be challenging, however.

Good grief, went around town this afternoon looking for this expansion, no-one has it anymore! EB Games only got 2 copies in, and there's no more at head office they say! It's like Capcom doesn't WANT my money! Guess I'll have to order it online and wait for next weekend. Unless you can download it? Is there any drawback to that?

You can get a digital version on 360 and PSN Store, same price and it will be installed to the hard drive, but you need at least 24gb free on your hard drive. The only drawback is that you don't get the box. I sort of regret not just getting the physical copy but when it came out I really wanted to play :(

As for anything technical no not really, and having it installed to the hard drive might be better overall for performance.

Destroy the tentacles as they come up to you, and then he tries to use 4 tentacles for a magic spell at the bottom of the arena, then you destroy those tentacles, and you get a Great cannon-esque spell that you can use to fire magic bolts at him, and once you do that, he dies in seconds.

I've cacked the main tentacles, then beat the poo poo out of his eye for a bit. Then he does the four tentacle thing and I take it out and continue doing that, but last time I narrowly missed killing the four tentacles (WAUGH A TENTACLE, LET'S DEAL WITH THESE TENTACLES :byodood:) and it nuked us all. I'll give it another go, I guess.

I finally beat the big beholder. No one told me that giant spectral eye it summons turns into a magic cannon if you kill the tentacles around it, that's just weird. Good thing I love the magic knight class, so I knew just what to do with it.

Thanks, but YIKES. 24GB is a bit too much for my poor Australian intertubes to handle, it'd almost be faster to order it online. I think you can install it to hard-drive anyway, but that might just be the "HD" textures.

Well that's the way it installs on PSN anyway, the game is actually just 12gb, but you download it first (which is 12gb) then install it while it sits there on the HDD, so 24gb. Are you on PS3 or 360?

I've not gone into Bitterblack Isle yet since I wanted to spend some time in the Everfall and get a few levels as magick archer to improve my stats. I'm using the Gimble Gyre though because I locked out the quests to get Madeleine. Looks like the best magick bow I can get can be bought. Is farming Wakestones the fastest way to earn money to buy all of the Everfall merchant stuff? Should I not bother and just spend all the money on curatives and just go to BBI instead?

Holy poo poo, I had the same problem with EB Games. I went in not 4 days after release to learn that all 3 stores in my city were sold out, and they 'had none at the warehouse'. Ended up just getting it at JB HI-FI for cheap.

Wakestones are probably the easiest way to generate money outside of selling purified BBI equipment. Curatives aren't too necessary to stock up on. You can get quite a few just by exploring and finding stuff on the ground/in boxes/in chests. That's what I've always done, at least. It is worth bringing a handful of wakestones, though. And maybe some large mushrooms/stamina regen items.

Most of the time. The one time I leapt straight off the bridge intending to land on a drake and grab on in style? Nothing there. Splat. Of course, just jumping off is my usual method of going through that area. And a lot of areas. The Arisen must have a strong face, if the amount of falls stopped with it are anything to go by.

New fun encounter for the day. Death spawns as I'm running up to the door for Daimon. Death sleeps pawns. All pawns die. Not enough RC to repair the last riftstone. Reload last save.

It's a big open-world RPG. The demo is literally two fights without any kind of context or instruction. So no, the demo is really not a fair representation of the final product.

I'm really going to miss Autonomy and Bloodlust when I get DA. It's amazing how atmospheric and generally better the game can be when there aren't a bunch of clowns running in front of the camera and babbling nonsense all the time. Dealing with specters and phantasms is still a huge pain solo but otherwise throwing my pawns in the ocean was a pretty big improvement.
