I still have my crate of old GLR though, not to mention stuff like my old Artcore LPs, and the classic 'atmo' stuff is great and I still love pulling it out from time to time.

ASC is pretty much my favorite producer right now.

What I've heard of ASC is really cool, are there any good regular radio shows or podcasts or anything for this stuff? I'd catch D-Bridge on Rinse every now and then but the last one I heard was him saying it was the final rinse show.

I used to DJ at raves and clubs around 1998-2002. I mostly played DnB but also some ambient/weirdness and house.

Some of my favourite stuff was on Moving Shadow, Certificate 18, Good Looking, and Metalheadz. Always some great stuff on those smaller labels too.

Here's some of the good old stuff (I have all this on vinyl):

Klute - Phone Call (Matrix Remix) CERT1843

Edit: Nope, forgot about The Orb's Perpetual Dawn single (1991)

Edit2: Wrong again! The Timelords (KLF) Doctorin' the Tardis single. (1988)

The Upbeats just released their new album "Primitive Technique" yesterday, and from what I've heard so far, it's pretty dope.

Here's the lead single, "Diffused". Apparently it was released in January, but I hadn't heard it yet and I looked through the thread and didn't see it posted, either. It's quite the thumper.

drat, somehow I'm just now getting around to hearing this new Danny Byrd track Back Again even though it's been out for like a week or 2. It's the B-Side to his new single.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L5ai0QEVU0g

It's very jungle-y. If his new album (Golden Ticket) is more of this, then I'm very excited for it. Not sure when it comes out, though. There's this album launch party event on 6/7, but I'm not sure if that's the actual release date:

I feel like gloating a bit. Just got back from EDC Chicago and got to see the following Drum & Bass DJs for the very first time:

Andy C w/ Armanni Reign (best set of the weekend, IMHO)
High Contrast w/ Dynamite MC
Noisia
Dirtyphonics
DJ Fresh
Culture Shock
Dub Phizix w/ Strategy
S.P.Y.
Nu:Logic
Wilkinson
Rene Levice
Bro Safari (played mostly moombah & trap, still good though)
Loadstar
Ed Rush & Optical
Terravita

Can't wait until I get off work and can go back to sleep, but drat, I'm still on Cloud 9. I never thought I'd get to see even half of these DJs in the US, let alone less than 3 hours away. I REALLY hope this is the beginning to a new influx of Drum & Bass headliners to hit the midwest.

I'm listening to the album now. Yeah, it's pretty commercial sounding as most of his stuff is, but it's decent. A lot of the tracks feel pretty samey to me. I wish there was more variation in this album. Throw Ya Hands is loving hot, though. That one, Bad Boy (Back Again) (a jungley track that I think I posted earlier in this thread) and JFK (Holy Mackerel) are the best ones on here so far.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O5Mqy4Y7q4c

Touchline almost feels like a cheap clone of Pendulum's Fasten Your Seatbelts to me.

Overall, I don't feel like it's as good as either Rave Digger or Super Sized, and you're not going to see singles coming out of this record on par with what those had. It's got a handful of good tracks, though, and the rest isn't unlistenable or anything. Put it this way: if some of these tracks come on my iPod at random, I probably won't skip them, but this isn't an album I'm likely to listen to all the way through ever again.

Podcasts are definitely a good way to go. Most of the major record labels (including Hospital) do them and oftentimes are the first place you'll hear these tunes.

If you're big into the Hospital sound, I'd obviously recommend the Hospital Podcast (hosted by Tony Coleman a.k.a. London Elektricity) but also check out D&B Arena, Shogun Audio, Critical Music, and the Random Movement podcast (http://www.randommovement.org/).

Short of that, the major record labels (Hospital, Ram, Critical, V, etc) will also have corresponding soundcloud and youtube channels that have a ton of music as well.

Rageaholic

The Hospitality compilations are great for finding out what tracks are hot now and have been recently, so if you use them as a starting point for DNB, I'd say that's alright. But if you want a real history lesson on the genre, you're not going to get it from those.

Like chrix said, podcasts are great as well, and I'm also really fond of di.fm's drum n bass stations (internet radio), so if you have an iOS or Android device, download the di.fm app and check those out, or just stream them from the web on your computer.

S'all relative, but I find that Marky collaborates with XRS best. If you are looking into one of his albums, find "The Master Plan" somewhere. There are two versions: one that was released by Innerground that is divided into two CD's, and the other is the one I'm talking about : "DJ Marky & Friends Presents the Master Plan", a double album that DJ Marky compiled with a nifty hour-long mixed DnB track. Give him a try if you're new to drum and bass.
