Are there any clubs that have significantly cheaper bottles and are still good (Saturday in summer) or is everywhere pretty much in the $350-$500 range for Skyy w/ different minimums depending on popularity?

Pretty much, I mean nowhere you'd ever want to be is going to be offering $100 bottles. Some will do deals like buy 1 get 1 free depending on who you know and what club...

Just spent five nights at the Cosmo, got upgraded to an insane suite with wrap around balcony.
Was lucky enough to eat at é, meal of a lifetime and worth every penny.

While 14 hours a day was work we managed to have a little fun. The Chandelier at Cosmo was a regular hangout and I wouldn't be surprised if Mohawk (Jason) is a goon. I cannot imagine how much money my company spent at that bar alone.

If you like cocktails: go to the Laundry Room. Do not pass go, do collect $200 (though you would have a hard time spending all of it there), don't stop just go there. I guess part of the attraction is that they don't post a location and you make reservations via text message. The number is easy to find. Not the kind of place to go get Jaeger bombs or Ketel Sodas, but if you want a cocktail that will melt your freaking face off...

Yes it is in a hipster kind of bar and yes some may groan at the speak easy concept. It is intimate once inside and the whole theme really comes together in my opinion. If you want a great drink crafted by one of the most talented bartenders I have ever seen work, this is your place. Speaking of the bartender, she is awesome. I am fairly certain even in my short few hours there that she is a robot, an absolute drink making machine not for speed but for sheer and utter precision and perfection.

I will go there every time I am in Vegas. I will probably take my wife to Vegas just to go to this one place.

Hopefully at least a few of you know about this place and can go enough to make sure it stays open until I can go back.

I figured I could drive in from Albuquerque, get no frills room, maybe play a couple hands of poker or something rather than watch lovely basic cable, then head home.

For reference, when I went to Defcon I used to go play blackjack at Circus Circus, I'm not a high roller, and don't need anything fancy.

What day are you going to be Vegas? If its Sun-Thurs then you'll have a lot of options. Fri-Sat not so much. Just start hitting up casino websites on the day you plan being there and check prices. The prices vary greatly week to week depending on what's going on so I can really just say go here since one day a place will be $60 and a week later the same room is $100 because of some huge convention and its spring break.

Yeah, pricing can be all over the place. But depending on the date, you can get into some of the nicer-than-Circus-Circus MGM properties starting at around $40. Luxor, NYNY, Monte Carlo all have rates less than $75 for a few weeknights in the next month or so. You can even get into the MGM Grand for $70 on a few days. Poke around for some promotions, and you can probably beat those prices. If you are a Harrah's property fan, you can probably do just as well at Bally's or Harrahs's.

Hard Rock looks decently priced as well.

Sorry I worded that wrong. I meant just go to different websites now and check the pricing for the day you planning on being there, not to check on the day you're there. You can get an idea now. If you have a good week you get some place like NYNY or MGM for around that price weeknights which includes Sunday. You won't find cheap table games there. Walk across the street to the Trop and you can find $5 games. Also you can walk middle strip to some of the smaller casinos and get smaller limit games, too.

Well, it was a nice idea while it lasted, I suppose.
All right, goons. Taking the little lady to Vegas for our anniversary, probably staying at the Nugget unless we can get an insane deal on the strip for less than what they're charging (currently 47/night, but looking for a deeper discount is fruitless at this point). Going mid-July, arriving Sunday leaving Thursday.

We've agreed on Penn and Teller and Goretorium (the person running live chat on that site gave me a heads up for $10 off per ticket on their sister site), dunno if we really want to do a Cirque show or not, given the prices we're seeing. Are the gondola rides in the Venetian worth the while?

In three days, what are the must-do's for a couple that's pretty old by goon standards (29 and 43)? No car, and don't really want to burn a day going to the dam or the canyon.

Open to any and all suggestions.

I did when I went in November. It is good because it is so centrally located so if you are going to be doing a lot of wandering it is perfect. The old rooms (which I'm assuming are the 40/night ones) are a little dingy but nothing terrible by any means. I hated the casino in there though (it has really low ceilings so it felt claustrophobic to me) so I would usually walk next door to Bill's for the $5 dollar table games they had there. I think Bill's is closed now though, but it's still a great location and right in the middle of the strip.

Flamingo has a great location and the basic rooms are fine. The casino is also OK, but not great. Luckily PHo, Paris, even Bellagio are within reasonable walking distance. You wouldn't expect it, but in my experience Bellagio has good drink service at penny slots, and their drinks are (imo) noticeably better, bigger, and less watered down than cheap places like casino royale.

If you can get a Go room for fairly cheap I would do it, they have a crazy style but are pretty nice, and have things that even my much more expensive room at Mirage didn't have: a usable minifridge and free coffee. Good pool too.

As safe as any city with lots of drunk people in it :) I felt pretty safe all the way from Mandalay Bay to maybe the Riviera/Circus Circus. Might be fine to the Stratosphere, too, but I ran out of time and headed back before getting there. Not sure that I'd walk all the way to Fremont after a certain hour, though.

I'm glad others had a decent stay at the Flamingo, but I definitely would not stay there again. The room my group got last summer had several dubious-looking stains on the couches and the IR sensor for the rear-projection tv was attached with duct tape. I don't expect fancy for those prices, but that wasn't acceptable. Thankfully I was at the Aria and Caesar's the rest of my stay there.

So we just got back from Vegas late last month, and are looking at spending another week over the Christmas holiday - including Christmas day. (Mandalay Bay has some great rates for under $70 that week, as do a few other properties.)

I've been reading and it seems that at least as far as the strip goes, I shouldn't be left wanting for things to do during the holiday. I guess the big question would be if anyone has specific ideas or experiences with a few places to grab some good Christmas eats on Christmas Day itself. Style, quantity, etc don't matter - in other words it could be a buffet, an asian restaurant, a steakhouse, or even a small diner. Any suggestions?

I'm going to Las Vegas for a couple of nights in September (Wednesday the 11th - Friday the 13th) and I am really not sure where I want to stay or what I want to see. I guess on the strip would be ideal. I want a room for (ideally) less than $200 for both nights, but will consider up to $250. I'm currently looking at the MGM Grand, seems to be in a good spot and is $237 for both nights including extra fees. Is there any reasons I shouldn't stay here, or anything in a better spot for a better price with equally positive reviews?

As for shows, is there any easy to navigate website which has a list of everything or something? I'm having trouble finding anything which relates to my interests (which I suppose are mostly music and comedy). Is the Penn & Teller show a permanent fixture at the Rio? There aren't any ticket details that far ahead but that is the one show I've found that I'd love to go and see.

e: I don't really know anything about this city so any general advice is appreciated as well.

Also, I am just going by myself.

Your show question was answered but maybe also look at http://www.tix4tonight.com/shows-in-las-vegas.html as a cross-reference. Oh, also check http://www.lasvegasweekly.com/events/
Penn & Teller are pretty permanent at the Rio - have been for years.

As for MGM Grand, based on the dates, that looks like an OK price if it includes the resort fees. Looks like a lot of the MGM properties are running around $70-$100/night before fees. You could go slightly cheaper and still get an OK hotel stay, but if that price is OK for your budget, I'd say go for it.

MGM is a little too far south from the action. If you're going alone. I'd recommend you'd stay between the rectangle with Bally's and Cosmopolitan on opposite ends.

Bally's-Paris-Planet Hollywood-Bellagio-Cosmopolitan are the hotels there in order of least expensive to most expensive.

MGM Grand is great.
If you're worried about being to far away from the action, there is a monorail station at the MGM Grand.
Also, if you want to party it all (what I like to do), take the monorail to the Sahara station (or maybe the one before that because there's not much near the closed Sahara) and walk back to MGM.

If you don't like sleep, yes, you can squeeze it in. Getting to and from EDC is a legit nightmare. If you go early to EDC you need to leave the strip by like 6pm. And if you stay the entirety you're not back in bed until 8am. So plan accordingly.

irl is good

I just got back from my second ever trip to Las Vegas and my first one as an adult (I went about 10 years ago with my family when I was high school). It was part of a larger trip throughout the southwest. Neither my girlfriend nor I were expecting much out of the Las Vegas portion of our trip, but we had a really good time! We are definitely Vegas neophytes and were worried about feeling out of place, but we didn't at all, so maybe there's somegoon out there who is thinking about taking a trip out here and has the same concerns. I figured I'd write up a trip report...hopefully somebody will find something useful in here.

Hotel: We spent three off-peak nights (Sun, Mon, Tue) in the Golden Nugget downtown and loved it. Our promo rate got us rooms in the Carson Tower for ~$40 a night. Apparently the Rush Tower is much nicer but we were totally happy with the Carson. Very clean, nice big bed, great mattress, easy elevator access, right by the self park garage, etc. I will note that I palmed the desk staff a $20 and asked if there were any complimentary upgrades, but I was told no and my bill was returned to me. Also of note: the Golden Nugget has no resort fee, meaning that internet access costs $12. This is for 24 hours of access per device, which latter detail we did not realize until we checked out.

As for staying downtown versus the Strip, it was totally the right choice for us. We are in our mid-20s and are not big nightclub people. We also wanted to get some of the old Vegas experience, as well as save some money for the later parts of the trip. The Golden Nugget was perfect for all of this. The clientele was not all bluehairs as we somewhat anticipated, but was rather a mix of seniors, couples, families, and conference attendees. Pretty much the only demographic missing was the bachelor party crowd, which was fine by us. Checkin and checkout were both really easy, and the pool/shark tank/waterslide is cool.

Gambling: Neither of us are gamblers at heart. I run a $10 buy in NCAA pool each spring but that's about it. However, we wanted to spend some time gambling while we were out there. Craps seemed fun and like it has a low house edge, so we went to a 10 AM class at the Golden Nugget casino (the Nugget does classes daily for a lot of table games). To our surprise, there were more people wanting to learn the game than there were spots at the table, and this was on a Tuesday morning. The dealers teaching the game were patient and fun, and we ended up playing three different sessions that day. Even after tipping our cocktail waitresses and dealers well, we both ended up in the black. She was up $50, I was up...a whole $1! We both went into craps with a bankroll of $100 and found that very easy to play with for awhile on the Nugget's $5 minimums.

We also did some slots, both at the Nugget and at Mandalay Bay. Drink service was a little slow at the Nugget but it was flowing at Mandalay Bay. We did nickel slots with $5 buy ins and were able to get three drinks before we left with about $2 each. I find slots boring but people aren't joking when they say it's a great way to get cheap drinks.

Player's Clubs: We only signed up for one player's club, the 24 Karat Club at the Nugget. To give y'all a sense of what they comp, we each did $5 in slot play (the amount we won when we signed up for the club). My craps bets averaged $19 over 3 hours of play, while hers were a little less. In total, the casino host took $22 off our hotel bill. We were pleased with this amount. She also told us that a room comp starts to be in play around average craps bets of $45-50 for 4.5-5.0 hours of daily play. Dunno if this is just for Carson Tower or for the nicer towers too. In any event, glad we signed up and asked to see what we get for our play.

Dining: We both keep kosher, which for practical purposes means that we are vegetarian + fish when we are away from a home kitchen. The sitdown meals we ate include:
--Red Sushi @ Golden Nugget: Decent, but a little overpriced for the quality
--Wynn lunch buffet: Beautiful space, amazing value for the price, tons of stuff we could eat. I'm glad I couldn't eat the meat here because I was already buried in choices. Desserts here are especially good.
--Triple 7 Restaurant @ Main Street Station: Super cheap big beers, decent quality, great low price
--Lotus of Siam: I know everyone loves this but I feel like we made a mistake coming here. What we had was good, but nothing that much better than what we can get at home. I think the real value of this place comes from its extensive menu, most of the choice on which are not kosher. E.g. I would love to have had some of the northern Thai stuff, but catfish is not kosher. This seems to be the place to go if you want something beyond the typical Thai fare you can get in America. I was also struck by how the strip mall the restaurant was in had restaurants from like ten different ethnicities. I would totally go try some of the others.
--Golden Nugget lunch buffet: equally good value to the Wynn. Not saying it's as good as the Wynn--not even close--but they are both priced very appropriately. There are a few mildly adventurous dishes here but mostly what you'd expect. FWIW, they keep the omelette station open well into weekday lunch.

Shows: We went to Tix4Tonight in the Fashion Show Mall to see what they had that was worth going to. Bought tickets to two things:
--Zumanity @ NYNY (same day balcony tix $75 each): Price seemed right for this one. It was our first Cirque show and we enjoyed it. There were some interesting acrobatics and some good comedy bits, but also a few lackluster spots in each. The only truly amazing things were the women in the water bowl and the guy in the hoop. I'd say this is a good first Cirque show, but I could see being disappointed in this after seeing one of the more A-List troupes. The best part of this show was also the worst. We had a total broseph behind us who kept making juvenile comments every time he saw a boob or had to look at a shirtless dude, but he also never seemed to pick up on the fact that the female performer he was most attracted to was the drag queen host. :gay:
--Riveria Comedy Club (next day tix @$10 each): apparently they give these out free to hotel guests and the place wasn't full. It was a kinda blue collar crowd and the two acts we saw were decent. Definitely worth the ticket price, especially if you are looking for an evening show that isn't very expensive, but one caveat is that a pitcher of PBR cost $24. :what:

Miscellaneous:
--Pinball Hall of Fame was cheap and worth a quick stop. I am apparently the worst one at all things except Ms. Pacman.
--Fremont Street is a blast. It's really great to be able to wander in and out of the various casinos and we were participants in a street magic show. Apart from drunk homeless Batman hitting on my girlfriend (and really, I was just jealous he wasn't paying attention to me), great times.
--This trip was a one way itinerary. We started in Vegas and flew back from Phoenix by way of Zion, Grand Canyon, and Flagstaff. All of those places were totally awesome and definitely worth visiting. Doing a one way trip in Vegas is pretty cheap, too. Apparently the car agencies end up with a bunch of surplus so it's really cheap to pick up a car in LV and take it elsewhere. Our daily rental rate for a Chevy Cruze from Alamo from Vegas to Phoenix was $8 a day! Not to mention the great gas mileage :toot:
--Craps owns and we are now looking into which Illinois or Indiana casino is a good place to go roll some dice over the weekend.
--Hardly anything we encountered was really smoky, with the possible exception of one or two downtown casino floors (not the Nugget's)

Thanks to everybody who answered my questions a few months ago before this trip, as well as anyone who has posted anything we made use of in our planning. We will definitely be back!

Ah, gently caress. My random long weekend in Vegas is the Labor Day weekend. It is the only time I can go while in the US. Is that a big weekend in Vegas? I am staying in Vegas Sat 31st to Thur 5th. I planned to drive from LA to Vegas on the Saturday and I think at least I should avoid that. I might instead take a Saturday afternoon flight instead, that should be reasonable? I might either do a day drive around Vegas on one of my days or drive back to LA on the Thursday.

I was considering going to a big club event on the Saturday night - I might switch that to just walking the strip and going where the mood takes us, I think that would be a lot of fun on a big Saturday night in Vegas, or is doing that where you can get in a bit of trouble? On the Sunday I definitely want to go to one of the big poolside day club events. I was thinking the one at the Hard Rock, are they worth it? Any suggestions with doing that and what is the best?

Just got back from Vegas and thought I'd make a trip report.

Stayed at the Monte Carlo for the second time, comfy beds / clean rooms / food court / decently priced. Perfect for me. With a tram right there to take you up the strip.

Our group did the Fast Lane go karts, picked us up at the hotel and dropped us off after. Tons of fun and decently priced.

Second night, Monday the 20th, we ended up at XS night club. Diplo was DJing. $30 to get in, $12 a beer, and decided on no bottle service. We didn't really need it. We met up with 4-5 women we had met earlier in the day and danced the night away.

Let me just say regardless of the cost, I had an amazing time. I would recommend this club to anyone.

Last few days / nights were gun range, bellagio buffet, cirque show.

My fiance has suggested that maybe for our one year anniversary we should go back to Las Vegas (which is probably my favorite place and more proof that I'm marrying the right person).

We went last November and had a blast. My question is, knowing that we are planning to be there in Oct of 2014 , is there any way I can leverage the way advance notice to score any good deals. How far in advance do hotels take reservations? How many days out is the "sweet spot" for deal making?
